Piggie Swap babies and seed starting #2

I sowed them once (without nicking or soaking) and got them to germinate. In their first year they will stay kinda tiny. Rather cute, really. In their second year they sort of explode in growth and will flower too!

One warning on canna's. There's this virus in Europe and the UK. I don't know if you have it too, already but it's spreading fast. It's really bad. It will make the leaves "weep" (little droplets) and will eventually distort the leaves. If you're canna does this, ritually burn it!

2 years until bloom, I can handle... that's like daylilies. I take it back. I do want canna seeds.

But I'm picky about cannas because orange isn't my favorite color... I like the pink ones. Can anybody recommend a good commercial source for canna seeds? I'm thinking seeds must be cheaper than plants for the fancy hybrids...

Happy Birthday Critter! I agree about the orange and I was not a fan of cannas until you all started the canna fervor of '08. I'll have me some canna yet! LOL!

Funny . . . orange is not my favourite colour either - but I love in in flowers . . . go figure.

Critter - in the Canna coop they're 75c a bulb - I can't imagine gettting anything cheaper. See if you can find somebody to go in with you on an order and save on poasge which is $7.50 per doz, 8.50 for 24 and 9.50 for 30. She has pinks and maybe a peach or pale yellow for that price, but if you go to the more expensive ones, then you can get all the colors.

That's true... and I've added a couple of rhizomes already to an order that a friend is placing. Of course, I wanted the more expensive ones, LOL. But it would still be fun to try them from seed... maybe mine will bloom earlier this year and set seeds that mature before frost...

very strang weather here...yesterday was so warm saw alot of t-shirts and flip flops at the college yesterday!!! I'm thinking my WS plants are going to sprout if it keeps this up! I noticed alot of buds on shrubs etc today

Weez's celebrity blue petunia seeds started today!!!...still no more geranium babies, dosn't look good

Y'all are having an in the flesh seed swap? That's a new one on me. How nice. A seed swap instead of a plant round up. Gosh, great idea!

Well, it's a little cold to dig plants here! We might be sharing a few house plants and cuttings, but mostly we'll be swapping SEEDS, seeds, and more seeds!

It's mostly a good excuse to get together and visit. I mean, we could always swap seeds via mail... although I think making a group event of sorting through and sharing our stashes will be fun!
