But, as Heidi intimated, you'll have to buy more dishes to get to Sunday . . .
I knew it!
Amen.
Outta~
I grew up in Forks WA and lived a year or so in PA 83/84 our youngest 2 were 3 and 4 maybe?
I have to say you had be for a good laugh too with the "are you involved with Danskin Women's Triathlon?? Triathlon would be the key NO word. LOL I could sell donuts or chocolate or something at the event.
Seriously, I don't think I have heard about it. I've been doing the Relay For Life event in Bellingham, WA the past couple years. I would LOVE to do the Breast Cancer 3 Day getting my kids together for a team.
Yes the Hangers are spectacular. I guess they are decommissioning the remaining ones that haven't been destroyed by fire or whatever else. Ours will be the only opporational left. Sad, they are such magnificant works. WE had one destroyed by fire in 94? That one had taken only 29 days to complete! Amazing. Since there was such a shortage on steal and the NW had such fast amounts of forest trees available, all 17 structures were made of wood from the Pacific Northwest.
Anyone thinking of coming to visit the area give us a heads up. We have an unofficial B&B taking in our first guest the night of our little hurricane. 101 was closed North and South and Hwy 6 to Portland was closed. A couple came to town...missed the HUGE storm on the Oregon coast warning (no TV) we happened to see them up by the flood waters we were watching in town, they asked about local hotels, they were all full, we invited them to stay. Right place, meant to be situation. We had a blast. The were our kids age, probably late 20s. We fed them hot soup, watched a movie (we actually had power) and had a nice breakfast before they ventured home. It was a blessing for both of us.
So you see any DG would be more than welcome. We have 5 bedrooms, with beds, 3 bathrooms and a hot tub! We do live in dairy country, gotta love that smell! Plus we have the Tillamook Cheese cows everywhere and of course the gorgeous elk. I even had a huge bald eagle and a hawk in my tree yesterday.
So come see the air museum and enjoy the beach!
Thanks for the invite. So good to have friends in the right places. Love your story about the hurricane. Isn't it crazy when you can just feel that the Universe wants you where you are?
A bald eagle in your tree? That's beautiful, of course, but keep your head down!!
I noticed cars parked out front my house taking pictures of something in my tree. I wanted my camera which was in the truck, trooped in my morning best....unmatched jammies(hey at least ai was wearing some! LOL) my morning glasses and hair from having hot tub ponies in the night before...you get the picture....but I wanted teh picture of "My" Bald Eagle" oh and there was a hawk sitting with him. Of couse I couldn't see the camera bag blending in with the dark carpet of the truck. A big diesle rig came by (not his fault his truck is a loud mouth) and they both flew.
The hawk was back today. My "HURRAY" here is that those trees are covered in nasty little birds, starlings maybe? They cover the trees in bird poop then choose the "Over my truck" path to have a group fly over with a potty break! GRRRRRR
So...I'm hoping these other guys are keeping them away. Although it makes me nervous with our little Domestic Blue TrixZee. She's still a smaller kitten and loves to go out when it's sunny. I don't want them to think of her as a swoop and go meal. She's been staying in.
Yeah. I'd keep Trixie in. I was walking from the parking lot to the bus stop in downtown Redmond Washington the other morning. I spied a large something (12 lbs-ish) sitting in a patch of lawn next to the parking lot. When I looked closely, it was a young eagle sitting on a pile of white feathers (most likely a seagull, but a mature one). I was only 15 feet away and I was on a sidewalk next to a downtown street. It was crazy. They do adapt and they are always looking to feed.
I love to see the, but I'd be nervous to have them too close by. I'm guessing that you are talking about the little starling pests - black/brown with little yellow spots. They can make a huge mess.
BTW, nice visual of you in your morning do. That's why I live where I live (at the end of the street with woods around me). I was tired of saying good morning to my neighbors before I was ready for public consumption. LOL
Hey I must of done something right, for almost 20 years of training. my DH does the shopping, laundry, dishes, vacuums, makes the beds, the only thing hes lacking as far as cleaning, He won't dust, I have so many Dust catcher's that I have collected over the years, he dos'nt want to be the one to break one. And he will work in the the yard with me if I want help.
And Heidi I can get you more dishes if you want cheap, plant trades? think of how many you need to make your point. If you use paper the dogs would eat it, I know Tyler would he eats everything. And I do think MEN are like Cats. Tell them to do something, and they just look at you, if you yell at them they run away.
I do live on farm land, in the county BUT...on the corner of 101 and McCormick Loop. McCormick loop can be busy. My drive too especially when there is a Bald Eagle right there.
I use to tell my old neighbors when they would see me go to the mail box in a long t-shirt night gown then give me a hard time out in my jammies......If you see me and I'm wearing a bra beneath, it's a dress, if not then it's jammies! I had had a couple surgeries within two months back in 98.....I wore my t-shirt dress/ nighty alot. They were comfy.
Yes and I will keep TrixZee in, she's small. All our pets are small:(( Duke, cat, weighs about 17 lds, Roger, cat about 15 and BoJangles is a ShiTsu...all just a meal for a huge bird!
Oh, I want to see your dh running away from you, Tills! That will be the day!
I love the eagles. I never get tired of seeing them. Actually I love all birds of prey. What does that say about me? Well, I'm a leo so maybe there is a reason. The big horned owls are trying to nest in one of the tall firs next door and the crows are having a hey day trying to pester them away. It won't work. I'm glad because I love to hear them hooting back and forth at dusk. I sit out there and wait to see them fly. They are so beautiful. But if I had a small animal, I would definitely keep it inside! They birds don't know those are pets. It's just prey to them. Would love to see a hawk and an eagle in the same tree. What a site!
Last year we returned home one day in the summer and I was out watering, looked up, and not 20 feet away was a bald eagle sitting down low in one of my trees. Really low. I was stunned into silence. It was all I could do to just stand there and look at him. Didn't start breathing again until he had flown.
Starlings are going to take over the world. They do not belong here and they compete badly with native song birds. I run them off when I see them.
Tilly I have a guy like yours. His mother trained him well. He was good at diapers and babies too, still is.
I didn't think my boys would do squat. But they are pulling their weight. They married good women. Brandon our oldest and Dain our son-in-law are fantastic with their babies & total neat freaks( didn't coem from our house).
Now when our youngest gets his little boy in June, we'll see.
They amazed me with skills I didn't think they posessed;)
Those stupid starlings.....oh I can't get started. I will get so many in those trees out front, it's impossible! I bang on the windows, shout, I need a blow horn or a shot gun!
There are barn owls in the old museum. Of course I'm never there after dark....duh...scarry....they live in the rafters. There are nets up across the roof to catch as much falling debri as possible. Just the same, the floor sweeper has to be used regularly to scoop up the pellets. There's always someone who will stop by looking for the pellets for a school classroom disection project.
Is it too late for a snack? I think I'm hungry....and not from talking of birds and pellets! Hmmmm....11:40...food back to bed...probably not good. Darn!
Now that is one place my DH has never been, diapers we have never had or ever will have children, my son was 17 when we met. He could not have kids, which he took him in as a father, what a ruff road that was.but all is good now.
And he will never run Pixs, I'll take him down first, Ha Ha.
Forgot to say my son is a neat freak, and it wasnt from me, guss I'm not. dirt, dirt, LOL

A while back when I was in an apartment, I woke up to 18 turkey vultures all hunkered down in one big cottonwood tree I could see out my windows. The weather was horrible, I think they were just trying to get out of the nasty weather. Didn't exactly give me the "warm fuzzies" but it was very impressive. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture, and they didn't stay too long.
Wouldn't give me warm anything. to see them
The other tree had two more, actually......
Hmm, I'll have to think about when exactly that was.
A place I lived in so Cal, an old neighborhood with many very large trees, had a street I called "Vulture Alley." Dozens upon dozens of vultures would perch in the trees and just hang out. It was always quite a sight when they would take off...I reallly liked them. Didn't seem to be bothered by much and didn't bother anyone, just kinda minding their own business...
We also have turkey vultures out here at Union. You always see them on the poor dead deer.
Pix - that just sent chills up my spine. I didn't know that about turkey vultures. Very cool.
Pixey you are a fey spirit. Excellent
Don't think I have ever seen any....maybe on TV.
I just looked them up. It is quite likely I have seen one beings they are in all parts of the US in summertime. Not being knowledgable on most birds I wouldn't have known. I can spot the Bald Eagle beings I have grown up in areas where they are very visual....my back yards!
We have a large variety of birds here on the coast, I'm guessing I'll be getting to know the different ones.
Here's my little hawk.
Now back to the digging in the dirt......I'm finding I might not benefit as much as I'd like. I think we must be on the old Tillamook dumping grounds...LOL....Old farms.....big deep burn areas. I found a the cast iron frame of a Hallet & Davis piano, along with the other metal parts that wouldn't burn..... tons of nails and scews....melted glass...in other parts of the yard various metal "stuff", brick and misc... So you see gloves are pretty much a must this year.
He keeps the nasty little birds away, I hope he visits often!
