Hey all! What's everyone's experience here with a not fenced in back yard? The reason I ask is, I'm going to be moving into a new home this spiring. A town house set up where there's 5 or 6 homes all joined togeher and you only start out with a small wodden fence on each side of your patio door. It's a nice area, but when summer comes and I take my plants out, (ie: plumeria, adendium ect. ect. ect.) will they get swiped from my yard? I've never lived in a home with only a partially fenced yard. I know plants aren't exactly on top of the hot list of things to steal.....but it happens.
Thanks,
Steven
ps: the fences aren't up yet in the picture
Not fenced backyard
Hi Steven,
Don't know about the area you live in but in Southern California, most all back yards are fenced in.
I have a friend that had 8 beautiful plumeria in her front landscaping that had been there quite a while undisturbed. One morning she got up to all of them - the top piece broken off. That was a couple of years ago, and though she was dismayed at the time, they have come back as pretty as ever.
Many years ago, when I worked for a property management company in Virginia, there was a situation where one neighbor stole potted plants from another neighbor. The one who stole the plants was easy to find because she put them out on her patio. Not very bright. I once lived in a complex here, in Santa Fe, with shared grounds that were just lovely. You never know.
I don't know anything about condo living. Are you allowed to put a complete up fence?
Live just North of Toronto, no fenced in yard..I leave my garden art, planted pots, really all my summer 'treasures' and never has anything gone missing...good luck with new home..
It depends on the area you are moving to. Mid-city anywhere, I wouldn't take a chance. Here, in this little village, I've never had a problem leaving anything outside. If I lived in downtown Kingston, for instance, I wouldn't leave the garbage alone for long.
hopefully, you know a little about the area you are moving to, and can adjust accordingly.
Thanks for the replies everyone! Theres a feild behind the house so thats going to be nice, no neighbors behind us! It's seems like a nice surveya and hopefully eventually we'll be able to fully fence in the yard, untill then I guess I'll just have to wait and see. The way it's set up is that nobody can really get into the backyards unless they live there and if people acualy want to steal from their neighbors thats kind of low.
And thanks for the experiences, I appreciate it!
Steven
