Is there any interest in a forum for animation.
PSP and photo shop art. ETC
Perhaps being to add a GIF file to the E-mail

I think for email it would be nice...

Dave has the final say, but I know at this point, he's very intentionally disabled any animated .gifs in the forums ;o)

Creating a forum for it would be fun! But I'm thankful for the lack of animation and colorful emoticons (other than the one smiley, which people are using judiciously) in general here. They're very distracting, and other than the "cute factor" I don't think they add much to communication, even in chatty threads.

I too am grateful for not having forums cluttered with animation and emoticons,
many of which are amusing only to their creators.

The smiley face does occasionally get "newly discovered" in a thread and for a
while it turns up in every post. Fortunately people get tired of doing it and it
disappears. ;-)

I hope Dave sticks to his viewpoint about animated .gifs and other such things.

I agree. I get a chuckle out of most of the animations the first time I see them, like the dancing banana and the walking fly, but they wear thin real fast after seeing them once or twice.

Other types of original animation, waterfall pictures, singing cats and flowers dancing around my grand babies etc., are fun to create for family ecards and such but they would load much too slow for anyone still on dial-up service and make it impossible for them to freely enjoy the forums.

So, back to the original question, though... what about having a forum for animation? We could share all this cute fun stuff, and people on dialup etc. wouldn't have to deal with it.

I don't think it would be easy to limit it to one forum.

Even if it could be limited to a single forum it would require a lot of bandwidth which is not cheap. I would hate to see prices on memberships increase, especially now that so many people are struggling with inflation.

Another concern is that it would be filled with gifs that are taken from the web and simply become a storehouse of stolen/borrowed works. While there are lots of free gif's out there most require that you place a link or small banner to their site. This could be really messy.

I also wonder how much use it would get if limited to original works. Are there really enough people who create their own animations to warrent a forum? If so I admit it would be fun to read their posts and advice on the subject with demos and step by step pictures through to the finished gif.
