DAILY PICS VOL 66

Las Cruces, NM

Wow .. time for another new thread. We've sure been a bunch busy birders this winter.

Here's were we came from ... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/812387

I have really enjoyed seeing everyone's snow pictures (we don't get much of that white stuff here in southern New Mexico). Even for those of you who are still freezing, I want to assure you that spring is on its way. And we all know what that mean ... BABIES, yippie! A few of my birds have already started building their nests.

Here's a reminder of what we have to look forward too soon. This is a baby Gambel's Quail picture last spring. I was just lucky enough to stumble across the nest while I was doing some yard cleanup.

(Edited to correct typos ... one day I may learn to type ... LOL)

I finally got the time to go through some of the pictures I took at the lake this past weekend. Here are a few of our winter visitors ... a Great Egret and some Canada Geese.

I must have taken 20 photos of the Northern Shovelers ... all with their heads under water. Then, I finally got this one.

Here's a pair of Mallards. They were very friendly and came up to take pieces of bread right out of my hand.

Last one for now. Here's a close-up shot of a Mallard drake.

Wonderful! Love that open water!

Who's rude? The guy on the right. He was at another suet feeder not twenty feet away. I guess the suet's always greener...or something.

Wonderful pics Jane!!!

Thanks for starting the new thread!

Love those Pileated sybil!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Great shots Jane!

I love the Pileated WPs too!

My net of nuts and suet is gettng dangerously low! There are lots of Blue Tits, I think only one pair on Great Tits. This is obviously the female, paler and very sweet looking.

I had a pair of Long-tailed Tits come to the suet, the net below that has been broken and is nearly empty of peanuts. A shame the right one is in the shade.

This is the lighter coloured Long-tailed tit, but it still has a lot of black on it's head. I'm sure I have another with a nearly white head.

Beautiful set of photos Jane! I love that baby quail photo. I think I must have close to a hundred babies come through my yard every year but have never gotten a good photo of one yet. New camera with telephoto this year so I am hoping.
LOL Sybil, I know what you mean, the suet or birdseed or grass is always greener when the other bird has it.
Super photos wallaby! Beautiful photo of that Chaffinch. He sure is colorful!
Nanny what is feeding with the Cardinals, is that a finch? You must be so ready for some sunshine & warm days. We have had 4 days in the 60's with one more tomorrow & then Thursday we might get a snowstorm. If we do it will be our first for this winter though we have had plenty of cold.
Adel, your California Quail are very much like our Gambel's, though I can see some differences. They sure are cute!

Yes, House finch I went back & put that in I forgot it the first time!

Marlton, NJ

We just had some confirmed sightings of Black-headed Gulls in N.J.

I heard some new bird sounds today but never caught sight of anything new. I'm assuming this is a female house sparrow but the bill looks off-color to me.

Here is my little Verdin, king of the pear, lol

What a great group of photos today!

Jane, those baby quail are so cute :-) Our Northern Bobwhites are finally starting to breed on our property, they looked like little bumblebees running thru my flower beds last summer. Love all those water fowl pics too!

Sybil, 2 Pileateds at a time, I can only dream ;-) I did finally get one at my feeder this weekend, boy I was psyched!

Great pics Wallaby, I love seeing all of those birds we don't get here.

Nice pics Nanny, I see snow flakes...I'm so glad ours from last night is gone!

Beautiful pics Angele, and it's so nice to see that blue sky!

Marlton, NJ

It definitely is nice to see the blue sky. We're having a snow and ice storm.

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

Here are a few pics of the Pileated WP that finally came to my feeders this weekend :-) Man, they are really BIG close up!

It took her a minute but she finally flew to the suet feeder. This is one of those big cages that you use for the Birdola seed blocks, I've been putting 4 of the cheap .56 ea. suet cakes in it because the Starlings are about to clean me out!

Trying to decide if she's going to share with the Starlings

I think NOT!

Wonderful pics sadie!!!

You really get a good judge of how big they are next to the Starlings.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)
