I would be interested in some of you trumpet creeper, and a few other seeds on your list. I'll send you a dmail.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

does this need exceptional drainage, because I have planted three and they all die. thanks you I sent a SASE today.

Frisco, TX

I am not certain, I have not grown this plant myself. I collected all the seed pods from a neighbors house when they were demo'ing it. He had lots of plants around his house and when he died they sold the property and bulldozed it. The man was a pioneer in our town and I wanted to keep something that he had grown/loved so I took the seed pods..

that was such a wonderful thing to do!

Frisco, TX

Thanks. I wanted some of his Cannas too but didnt get to them in time. I was afraid someone would tell on me if I took them shortly after he died. I knew they would just bulldoze over them. It was very sad to see his house of so many years just gone.. :-(

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

wow, that is some memorial, you die in Texas and they bulldoze your home the next day. Hm???????

Frisco, TX

Yes pretty sad. The guy also DONATED the land for the nearby elementary school. He was upset when they wouldnt name it after him. We only use people who were educators for namesakes. They did name a street after him though and a local park where his house used to be..

Blackshear, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi Angel I would be honored to recieve some of the precious seeds you collected and it would be my pleasure to plant them in South Ga. Would it be possible for you to give his first name and if I m lucky enough for them to grow I would like to name the spot where they are planted to be in his name. example (j ....corner )

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Me too.

Hammond, LA(Zone 8b)

I am sending a SASE also. I only need a few seeds, maybe 6. I am going to send you some in return too.

Thanks : )

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Hey please post when you get my SASE, if you have the time, so I know it came, we have a lot of mail probs here in the rural side of town.

Monticello, IA

I bet hummingbirds would love this. Sending SASE as soon as I get some stamps. How many stamps do you think please?

Hammond, LA(Zone 8b)

Oooh, I only put one stamp. Just put as many as will ship with one stamp. Sorry about that! Jennifer

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I did too, I think. Crap, did I put a stamp on it at all? Let me know, I am so crazy with these classes I am in all day and night too on some days, I have a dg secret pal and have been trading seeds for the first time so I am a loonybird.

Frisco, TX

For bubble envelopes it takes two 45 cent stamps. actually any evenlope that is fatter than normal and needs hand stamping takes 2. Otherwise they could crush your seeds..

Also, for those of you requesting these. Please put what seed you want somewhere on the envelope that you send me. I am getting alot and have to come look up names..

I can probably only take a few more requests before I run out. I've sent large amounts out to people so far..

Ok I just read through the emails above. Cherrlife made me cry.. Maybe what I should ask everyone can do that gets some of these is to remember him when you plant them and tell others where they came from and who he was. He LOVED gardening and was always seen tending his plants and goats.. My kids cried when he passed away because we saw him nearly everyday as we passed by to the school..

His name was Otis Newman and he was a pioneer in Frisco, Texas..

Angela, I think most of us feel that way. We all have a grandparent, aunt, or neighbor who insipred us to garden. A memorial garden is always a wonderful way to remember that special person. My grandmother always grew bachelor buttons, zinnias and marigolds. Every year, I set aside a part of my garden for those plants in her memory.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I will copy and Paste Otis' name in my jblog so I will remember him. Thanks

Blackshear, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi Angela, I am interested to have some if there is still some left. I will send a sase. Thanks for the offer. André

Frisco, TX

Yes I have some. Please send me a dmail too with the seed you want. I'm having trouble keeping up with everyones requests..

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Got my seeds today and thanks for the postage since I am a brain fade. I thanked you on the lets thank dg folk thread. I saw you post so it is there.

Frisco, TX

Oh that was nice of you. Let me know how they grow..

Angela

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Will do some in the lasagna garden and some in water bottles for w sowing.

Frisco, TX

Oh that reminds me, I have to read up on the lasagna garden..

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Best thing I ever did. Not fast without rain, last year we had the worst drought on record but you get a lot of rain compared to me, especially last year.

It is a great way to have good soil and get rid of your old magazines and phone books and old boxes too. It is a glorified compost pile with straw and paper and scraps, coffee grounds etc. some dirt and water and a pitch fork. If you need to add some amonium sulfate or nitrate to it to hasten the process it takes about 6 mo, with rain and a year with little.

What zone are you?

Sinking spring, PA(Zone 5b)

AngelG, what nice story. I don't think that vine is very invasive. At least I give it a low rating. Everything is called invasive these days, its not a true measure of the kind of phenomenon we have here in SoFla with some species. To me that plant would be a challenge to grow. It will hate the lime and shell rock soils, its not a fast grower by comparison to most tropical vines I know. I love people who love to garden and that is a very beautiful quality to me. Sorry you lost a great neighbor. My thoughts to you that someone you respect will fill those shoes.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

great post fauna

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

What a beautiful story...I'm sure the gentleman's pleased that you're taking the time to do this!!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Hey do you guys just plant them with the skin on and all or do you tear apart the seed capsule's and take the seed out first. I planted them in the little pod, in the container whole. I want to see then grow though so thought I'd look ignorant and ask, rather than not and have no historical campsis.

Frisco, TX

For those of you that I sent seeds, please let me know how they are growing..

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

hellnzn -- i WS'ed a few seeds last year, i left the 'skin' on and got germination.

now my question on Trumpet Vines .... how long do they take to "take off" ?

i will also have to see, when things start popping this spring, if the lil plant survived the winter.

I also purchased one about 2.5 yrs ago, and it's still only about 8" tall.
I was hoping it would fill in a large blank area.... but so far NOT. and i always have heard about how they get away from ya.... maybe that's in more southern areas and not up here.

Toledo, IA(Zone 4a)
