DAILY PICS VOL. 63

Brainerd, MN

Following are some pics from last weekend. No one you haven't seen before but that's okay, right?

We had quite the chow-down during that cold snap.

Hadn't seen the bluejays for awhile. They seem to be around more when I add corn to the BOSS.

LOL angele. I love my backyard!

Here is a question for you experts out there. I was noticing on a few of the past threads, the herons and their big eyes with irises. They have so much character. I just noticed that on the Pileated too. Now, it's not that I haven't seen that before but I didn't have a question before - now I do. How come some birds do and some don't have irises?

Marlton, NJ

I thought they all had irises but you just can't see it on alot of them because their eyes are dark.

Still getting lots of snow Eleanor? We only had 1 inch last month; it lasted for a day.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

great series Sybil.

Had a lot of Pine Grosbeaks today. They don't usually come in big bunches, like they did today.

Pell - yes, we still have lots of snow! We haven't had any really big snow storms in several weeks but these little systems keep moving through to keep us white (or icy)! I don't mind the snow but I'm anxious for spring and to be outside in my gardens. Can't wait for this scene!! Eleanor
p.s. - I was informed last year about red colored nectar and have stopped using it but this was one of my favorite pics last year!!

Or I'd even be happy with this scene! (last year's pic obviously since we still have lots of snow) Eleanor

Eleanor,I'm looking forward to the hummingbirds coming back again too; nice pics!

I also like the Quail - they were my favorite bird when I visited Arizona.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Just lurking. Love all the pictures.
The cold foot stomp made me laugh.
We had quite a bit of snow here and the birds have been coming in by the hundreds. (mostly finches) But anytime I near the window they are gone. Have had a few hawks in and the osprey, so they are a little flitty, who can blame them.

I love watching the woodpeckers but they are tearing up the oaks

That's just a dead branch anyway, so the woodpeckers are doing a useful job in breaking it apart into little pieces. Much better that, than it falls whole onto someone's head!!

Beautiful picture of the quail with the snow in the backgrounds.

Great pics everybody! Love the Pine Grosbeak Hollywood shot (closeup mirrored!)

Quail is very funny although the bird is likely not amused.

Resin - we do have a lot of potential deadfall in these oaks. In the woods outside the back fence, the woodies have taken some trees apart down to a ragged core. It's almost spooky to walk through and see tree trunks stripped bare to blond and completely torn up.

I got several shots of this lil' Mountain Chickadee yesterday, and in all of them he seems to be having a problem with the left leg. I sure hope it turns out okay.

I really like shots like this. Usually it turns out just a blur when they take flight.

See that little foot held next to it's body. Poor thing.
