Hints of Spring! Please share yours....

Red Oak, TX

Tracie, you are right, the plant is a veronica speedwell, thank you. I have them in two different locations and they always come back for me. I hope that they do good for you.

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

if you can remember, about how long do they bloom for you? i am hoping they last a good part of the summer. :-)

For me, the main flush of creeping veronica 'Georgia Blue' was always very early, like now till the end of March. Then they would begin to die out and the pink skullcap would take over. After that I would see sporadic blooms throughout the summer, but nothing like that first flush.

I really love those little blue flowers. Wish I could figure out why I keep losing mine.

Red Oak, TX

aggiegirl, very nice flowers. I will try the Lemon Symphony this spring, they are so pretty.
I agree with what pbtxlady said about the veronica speedwell.

Here is what has become my hint of spring, and the "ok" to plant out others that were started in the garage . . . my lavender hibiscus. Over the winter it looks like a stick, but now this!

LOL! That is too cute Sylvia!

Looking for rain here today and am seeing new buds on the Brunfelsia, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

found this iris blooming in the pond yesterday when it was 75 degrees. Today it is raining and falling to 30 by night. This won't be last cold. Always an Easter spell.

counting the days.

That is beautiful colors ~ Louisiana Iris?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know. Mitch has bequeathed my garden with at least 100 iris. I will be asking a lot as they begin to bloom.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

It is a stunning LA - no name with it but a nice one. You should have yellow ones too in there. All the ones in the pond are LAs.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

That's pretty, Christi! I saw a 30 and a 28 in the 7 day forecast! I've got all kinds of stuff blooming and budding. I'm worried!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Nah. Don't worry. This always happens. It is just that you are now gardening and it makes you more aware of the weather. Don't know about plants but trees are supposed to have 3 sets of leaves. 3 chances.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, that's it LouC! Talk me down.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Trying to give you confidence, TJ. As the grandkids tell me "It be awright".

Got everything but the beets, potatoes and tomatoes planted in "our" garden.

LouC

Oh and some more herbs in containers.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the timbers.

Your very welcome! I see pineapples!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

That is a mighty fine garden Christi, I see you even have a pineapple planted there.
Must be to remind you of your trip to Hawaii, not that you will need reminders, i am sure.
Josephine.

Sure is, Jo. We have saved the seeds from the Mango we got at Costco too.
Jenny is sending seeds and cuttings around April 1st after she is sure it is warm enough to travel them. The AG is super strict about what you take with you. They inspect everyone twice at the airport. Only once for security. Jen says she can take them to someplace in town and they can certify them for mailing.

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

just thought i would share a pic of some of my spring visitors. keep in mind that i live in a subdivision right in town!

please forgive the mess, i am having a garage sale this weekend. note the gray cat on the chair just looking on.

this little guy was practically in the house! yes, i know, they can be nasty, mean creatures and can carry rabies. that is why the door is practically closed, just open enough to take pics. but, they sure are cute!

here is another hint of spring, in East Texas anyway! my dad found him on a trellis right next to the house. looks kinda scary, but it is a diamond back water snake, not poisonous. we let it go by the pond.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow! you sure had a lot of visitors, those raccoons are adorable.

Dallas, TX

My Lord! I would be scared to come out the door? Are you feeding the Raccoons or are they eating the cat's food? Your cat remind me of my Sedric ... nothing phases him. lol

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I was working outside on Sunday and in the MORNING, this Japanese Maple (Sango Kako) was just full of buds. By the end of the sunny day, a few had opened!

I love the springtime rains. Rain seems to make things sprout before our eyes. Yesterday morning, the redbud tree opened its' blooms ~ it's just not photogenic though.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Iris buds zapped here... and Brugs are all tucked again inside.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Pretty frosty? It is high 30s here right now.

The final determination of spring here is the pecan trees budding out. Nothing yet... The old timers always say there will be one last cold spell at Easter but Easter comes early this year.

Holding our breathes till springtime.... pod

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Easter is still 19 days away and we have a dusting of snow this morning. First one this winter season...so far. 30 degrees for a little while, 35 now and sun is out. Never know from one minute till the other.

Thumbnail by LouC
Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, very distressing, that is why I don't get too optimistic about early signs of spring.
I hope my Texas Mountain laurel buds were not killed last night, that would be a shame.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Ooh, it got to 27° here...again! Am tired of covering my pots outside. I've got ML buds also, not to mention the peach tree buds. Anyway, the sun's out, so primary day shouldn't be too bad.
