Variation in the color of the eyes from brown to green can all be explained by the amount of melanin in the iris, but blue-eyed individuals only have a small degree of variation in the amount of melanin in their eyes. "From this we can conclude that all blue-eyed individuals are linked to the same ancestor," says Professor Eiberg.
Do you believe in just one ancestor being the source of blue eyes?
Blue-Eyed Humans Have A Single, Common Ancestor
lol, that would explain a lot.... at least in my family!
Well look at me I didn't even put in the link. :)

Hmmm interesting..no blue eyes in my family...
Ok, so you're calling me a mutant, but doing it in a nice way and saying it doesn't reduce my chance of survival....I'm not real sure how to take this. I've been called a lot of things, but never a mutant. Hmmmm....
I suppose that all blue-eyed people could be linked back to the same ancestor, I suppose it is possible. If you look at all the countries in the world, you'll see that certain countries are full of blue-eyed people....or brown-eye people. That had to start somewhere, right?
On the other hand, it does seem a bit hard to believe. I don't know about all of this DNA testing from samples from 6-10,000 years ago. Where did the DNA come from, how was it preserved, etc? From watching those forensic shows on TV those things are important and make a big difference. I dunno. I don't believe science has the answer to every question or is as reliable as we all think it is sometimes. People once believed the moon was made from cheese and that the world was flat....and I'm sure someone could scientifically prove those things at that time too.
There's so many holes that could be poked in this idea. What if all the DNA they tested from before 6-10,000 yrs ago just happened to be brown-eyed people? How many tests did they do, from how many different parts of the world? What if the first man or woman was the one who truly had blue eyes....and the mutation stayed hidden? Then they are telling us something that we all already knew....we all came from Adam and Eve and have those ancestors in common. LOL
It is neat to think about though. In my family there are 2 that have dark hair, skin and eyes...they look Italian. Then there's my DB and myself who are fair skinned, have light/reddish hair and blue eyes....we look Swedish or Irish. There's no way that anyone would put my DS and I together as siblings. Weird stuff.
Whew heathrjoy feel better now that you have that off your chest? I don't know about the moon made of cheese but the sailors of the world in the old days knew that the world was round by watching the ships coming up on the horizon. What they believed though is that there was no land to reprevision from and you would starve before you found land again. I am not sure where the flat part came from.
DNA codes are found in bones but where they got bones from that long ago is a mystery to me.
Back in the days when Columbus sailed people thought the earth was flat. Actually there are still people today who think the earth is flat......strange but true!

I think our first ancesters were green eyed.
If you look close to a green eyed iris, you will see flecks of blue and brown.
I guess I may be a mutant for at one time I was a blue eyed dumb blond. Now I am a even dumber grey.
My husband came in from work the other night after hearing this on the radio, and said, "Honey, I'm afraid we're in an incestuous relationship."
Now thats funny. You know what they say about blue eyed Texans? They are a quart low. :)
Hubby was just talking about this to the eye doctor the other day. Odd,
but interesting.
Funny they always depict our ancestors as brown eyed. Ya never
saw cavemen with glasses, either. LOL.
I wonder if scientists can determine the eye color of caveman bodies
they have preserved. Pretty neat, all the advances in science these days.
KM
LOL about blue-eyed Texans - wait until I tell my SIL that one!
