Give us this day our daily blogs...

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

I enjoy reading the daily blogs but will occasionally find one where the most recent posting was from Oct 07. Would I be correct in assuming the new entry was private? Any way of indicating that on the daily blog list?

We have a daily blog list??

Hi ~ in the communities list on the right hand side (you may have it on your left) click on gardening blogs. It will take you there. I enjoy reading what others are doing...

Do you mean when you click on their blog, the Oct 2007 is at the top?
That would mean that they changed the order in which their new blogs appear. I had mine set as the first one I wrote at the top and new ones below but I didn't care for it and so I set it back.

Ca_Sue ~ if I am not mistaken, I scrolled down and the entries became more vintage by date. Let me see if I can find one... and post the link here.

To begin, my apologies to MzzPool ~ no offense meant this is just the first one I came too...

This is the garden blog member list... MzzPools' entry is Feb. 1, 2008 at 10:06 PM

http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/index.php?offset=20

When you click on that entry, you get this... all entries dated Feb 1, 2008.

So naturally, I clicked on In the beginning... dated Feb 1, 2008 9:43 PM
http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/MzzPool/7155/

Which brings me to this entry where all the posts are dated January 15, 2008.

The Planting Unit entries are dated January 26.2008
http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/MzzPool/8084/

The Fish Tank entries are dated January 26, 2008. http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/MzzPool/8085/

Now these are relatively recent entries but some I have encountered are dated back in the summer or fall, a few even older.

I guess MzzPool would be the only one to tell me if there was a new one listed as a private entry...

I guess what I would like to see is a mark indicating no new entries to be read by the public... maybe?

Kind of like a "skip to new" feature?

Maybe an ignore this blog cause there ain't nuttin' new for you... LOL

When you go into anyone's list of blog entries, it's actually in chronological order - their most recent entry is at the bottom - I'll use myself as an example. If you look at the summary list, you'll see I made an entry today (Feb. 4). When you look at the list of my blogs: http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/m/Terry/ the first one is dated 2005.

I'd vote to reverse that list, so that whatever blog has the most recent entry is at the top of the list.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, I understand that and have no problem with it. As the one above illustrated, it was listed as a current post on Feb 1st but the most recent entries in the whole journal were Jan 26th. I assume (wrong me) that when it was listed on Feb 1st, that would be the most recent post.

I will search for others as I have run into this frequently and some of the most recent posts were quite dated.

What I am curious about is how to make an individual diary entry private. I was told privacy in the diary blog had to be all or not at all.

Just curious pod.

It's the journal where privacy is an all or nothing deal--in the blog/diary, you choose for each entry whether to make it public or private.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, I see that in my diary now on selecting privacy for that entry.

So is that what is going on with the blogs that are showing a current date and vintage entries?

If so, would there be any way of marking those entries as nothing new? I do read the blogs and find myself answering questions via Dmail to many new DGrs and am interested in what is going on weather and plant wise for others. It can be tedious to come across a spate of these nonentries.

I'd agree with your original theory that it just checks for new entries and doesn't pay attention to whether they're public or private. No idea if that's something that's easily fixable or not.

Thanks for the input all. I will continue to read the blogs. Mostly just curious... thanks much.

Ok, I skimmed over this quickly so forgive me if I misunderstood.

If someone adds an entry today and you have a watch on it, you would get that notice. But that entry may not necessarily be dated today because the blogger has the option to select any date. She may want to accurately reflect when a picture was taken but doesn't get a chance to blog with it until much later. By choosing an earlier date it remains chronologically correct for her. It can be confusing for someone watching it of course as you may have to scan to see where a new entry may be, especially as the blog grows but for the blogger it makes sense.

I think you may be right Sue...I hadn't thought about that. Maybe there's still some where people are marking entries private, but I think what you said is probably going on a lot too. I know I don't always update my diary promptly, but if I know the date I took a picture I'll adjust the date of the entry accordingly.

I did it a few days ago, decided to add a few more rose pictures but I wanted them with a rose note I had written so I changed the dates for them to fit right in the middle.
