Glad you are growing them in a pot, jenny...they are really invasive here!!!
OK...gonna hit the seeds with HP...no question about that now. Also gonna look up that stuff for composting...
You guys are so full of great information!!!
Carol
Hydrogen Peroxide.
I agree with Karma - great pots! And I also wish I had someone just dropping them on me! Lucky you, Jenny! And they will be beautiful with the MGs. I also have some coming up in a long rectangular container...stuck bamboo stick in and string across from stick to stick for the things to climb on. This must be the year for Morning Glories!
As Carol says MG's could be very invasive here, I hope the pot will contain them, Lord knows I have enough troubles with things going wild...
Acually I had a whole heap of pots dropped off at my house. I hope my friends don't want them back in the future because I asked my SIL to drill holes in them all for drainage. I have just planted an old footbath with peperomia (Sp?). I hope it wasn't an antique, but I am afraid it looks at least Edwardian - hopefully not Victorian.
Don't really know if the HP has made any difference with the growth, but sure can tell you that it helped the seeds sprout quickly. I wonder what would happen if I give them a spray of messenger...hmmm. Might try that after work tomorrow. Mad scientist at work!
Edited because I got it backwards, should read before submit!

The cache of pots is great. Very large and beautiful. I have never even seen pots of that caliber for sale here. The MG must be infected with whatever Jack in the Beanstalk had. You can actually stand and watch them grow..as does everything in Jen's yard. When we first arrived she gave us a rundown of what she intended to "hack out". I, of course, could not believe she wanted to even trim it much less "hack it". After a few days it was evident that things grow there differently from anywhere else. Two or three inches or more per day is nothing.
Cannot imagine how Carol ever copes with her jungle. Did not get to spend near enough time with Carol. I saved a few seed from Jen's and was afraid the AG Inspectors would confiscate but they just let it go through. It is plants that must be certified. Missing the fresh fruit breakfast today. Papaya and banana are just two that we had straight off the tree. Even banana tastes different from what we are able to purchase. No doubt we are healthier this morning than from what we were when we left. AHHH, think this was supposed to be about morning glories.
Aloha,
Kilikina
Aloha Kilikina, glad to hear your seeds made it through AG with no problem. How do your plants look after their trip home? I lusted after the orchids that were for sale at that nursery, but I restrained myself and only bought a Ylang-Ylang - I still have the worst looking orchids Shari!
That was on the whale watching boat and I couldn't have been happier.
Carol...yes you are tall! Maybe you don't think so, but to those of us who are vertically challenged, you are an Amazonian Goddess!
I am all of 5' x5'. very discouraging. However, very good health so what the hey!
Yep...shucks. And I used to be 6' tall. now a mere 5'10". OH...aging and the burdons!!!
LOL, you guys!
Dredging up this again, hope you don't mind. 37 days since seed. Hundreds of buds on the MG's. I wondered if any one would like to guess the date of the first bloom opening? Prize for the winner will be three named varieties of Brugs. This is a picture of the plant that I will use for the contest taken today (the 9th March)
I am in....wanna play, mommy!!!
I am going to (closing eyes, caressing forhead calling forth the minehune to tell me) guess that Friday next (the 14th the bud will open).
Now...by OPEN? A full flower? The hint of color from the green bud?
I vote for an almost full or full flower....!!!
Great game!
Carol
Aloha Jenny!
I was just getting ready for bed and I see this :)
I know nothing about MG's so I chose the 17th.
BTW my seedlings are doing great!!!
Thanks :)
Kim
I think we will go for the morning the buds open into full flower, OK?

Jenny, I am NOT trying to be a wet blanket here, but I am stunned! We planted the seedlings within a couple of days of each other, and mine have been blooming for weeks! Could the h/p have stunted the blooming?
Gosh Shari, I have no idea! Does anybody know how long MG's take from seed to flower? How long did yours take from seed to their first flower? Aha, a mystery waiting for someone to solve...
Lets take stock here.
I have mine in pots (You probably do too) my pots are earthenware..
I have given mine no fertilizer at all..
Pots are in sun, weather has been the same as usual, sunny, low 80's day, mid seventies night, no rain, watered by the hose daily..
MG's are a mix of white and blue, ordinary sort..
Do tell what your secret is.
Aloha my friend.
Just had to go to check out the seed package for info -
Germination 14 days
Days to bloom 60-90
Do not give high nitrogen fertilizer.
I seem to be a little ahead of schedule, Lord only knows what you have there, how many days did yours take until the first bloom, you said you have had blooms for weeks - I got to get me some of those!
Anybody want to take a guess if the first flower will be a white or a blue?
White :)
My guess is for the 15th (just because i like the number 5; silly, i know.) And i'll go with the blue opening first. They look great, even if they haven't bloomed yet.
Oh my gosh! Just found this thread. Let's see, one of the buds is fuller than the others. I'm gonna go for the 13th. Color blue. That may even be too far away knowing how quickly everything grows there. Hey, Shari, need to know what you have. Once it gets warm we have them popping up everywhere from past seeds. My neighbor doesn't like them and we have a little disagreement about pulling them up. Morning glories are necessary for an old fashioned garden. One or two sunflowers are ok, too. If I win can I come back to Maui? wooohooo!!
Princess Kilikina
Gonna be a great day today.
Aloha all,
Christi, you know you are welcome anytime!
So far we have:
Pepper - 12th
LouC - 13th
Alohahoya - the 14th
Ashleykelly - the 15th
Kimarj - the 17th
I am putting Mom in charge of the list so that she can be involved too. Thanks for playing along you guys!
edited to add Pepper

Aloha Karma,
You got the 16tH, and blue is the most popular guess so far.
Your MG looks so nice and healthy - looks like it is in a pot? Have you got anything for it to climb on, and is it still inside in your area?
Thanks for playing along!
Shari, still dying to know how you did it! Where have you been anyhow? I haven't seen you around much, hope all is well your end of the world.
Jen
Just saw a post on Vines and Climbers forum posted by JPlunket on how vines grow (post # 4588694). Sorry I haven't got a clue how to link..It is worth watching - amazing!
Jen, I started with 5 sprouts, but only 2 made it. Perhaps it was too cold or too wet, not sure. I was supposed to try a few more seeds, but misplaced them. So now, I have 2 in a big pot and used a tomato cage for them to climb on. I was hoping to have 5 total, but can't seem to find those xtra seeds anywhere. It was warmer today, so they're sitting outside at the moment. Can't wait to see your MGs in bloom!
OMG, that is the coolest video! Here's the link to the thread Jen was talking about. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/817541/
Hi guys! I just went out and took pics to show you mine. I started the seed in a coffee filter around 2/9, they sprouted a few days later and I planted them in a shallow rectangular pot to go along the bottom of my fence...let's see that was the day before I got Tali for the week, so, 2/13 I believe. They grew really fast, and started climbing on the shelving unit. Bloomed right after the kids got back from Pohnpei, so must have been the 24th or so. Here's the first pic:
So PRETTY Shari! It looks great against the white. Gotta go find my seeds!
Wow Shari, that's phenomenal! Such a pretty color too, much more delicate than the blue ones.
I think 16 days from seed is a world record, so tell me what is the difference? I wonder if the shallow container has any thing to do with it - or is it just the masters touch? Well done, love.
Not "master's" I'm sure! I am having buku problems with some other plants, my Bird's Nest has some kind of blight, my big ficus is losing all its leaves...don't know why these did so well...planted the crocosima that Carol sent me at the same time, and they are still just seedlings...figured they must just take longer...ha ha. My mg's must just really like the weird weather!
Put me down for the 10th and white. :~)
Sounds like a street in south philly...lol
:)
LOL. Yeah, it does.
In KC it's more likely to be 12th and Vine, the Jazz District.
Kool!
LOL! Jazz...my kinda place!
It's a neat area but still is a bad neighborhood so you gotta be alert.
I change my date to the 12th. Today is the 10th and unless it has opened since my post I don't think that is gonna work. LOL
