Cleo decided to get out of the house and come to visit us, scrappy was telling her to back in side.
Work Party at Rachel's
I love that you caught the pic of Cleo and Scrappy!
Mary, thank you a million times for taking such wonderful pictures, I love them!!!!!
The last two I made into one as a panorama, of the drive, I tried to make it so you can see in Rachs first post of what we started with and finish with. I hope it works.
I had a great day and enjoyed it very much, mostly taking pics
Now to go get the car unloaded
Can't wait to see your pics Sheri and Kathy didnt you take some?
It didnt turn out the greatest, but you still get the idea.
Wow, Tilly, great pictures! That's going to be a fabulous garden, Rachel. What a huge amount of work you all got done. I'm totally impressed. Hope I can be at the next work day.
That was just delightful! What a day, and what a great project - you lot worked really hard, and it shows! Full marks to DH Michael, too - what a champ, gave up sailing for dirt! Yea team. And Gordon is a real find - KEEP HIM, he can really move dirt! Perfect.
Rach, I can hardly wait to see how this developes with the plants settling in and all the found objects moving around and being planted (I noticed a white bedstead in the back ground, is this going to be a planted object?)
And thank you Tils, for staying up and posting some just for me! I do appreciate it.
wonderful outing.
Great pictures Tills, makes me feel like I was there! I just love the one where the wheel barrells are all lined up nicely looking ready to be raced! Makes me very sad I could not be there I was looking forward to meeting you, Outta, Kate and NWGordon, it will happen soon.
Looks like you all got a lot of dirt moved and had fun doing it. So Sorry I had to miss it!
Great job everyone!!!!
Laurie,
The white flower "bed" is planted with narcissus, alium, frittalaria, grape hyacinth and wild flower seeds.
I'm excited to see how it all turns out as well!
Wow you guys worked quite hard. Lots of work happening. The cardboard is a great way to make it simple. It will be nice when the flowers show up. You will drive around and around your circle in the summer to enjoy all the stuff. Nice presentation.
Oh man! What a group of worker bees and great photos of it all by Tilly and Rach. I missed a good time for sure. I sense a small amount of jealousy over Outta's pink shovel LOL! It won't be pink for long with proper use.....
You have a wonderful area Rachel, fantastic animal life, and a great group of hardworking garden buddies for sure. I am completely jealous of the flat lay of your land and that gorgeous new black soil.... It turned out just tops! Congratulations, and a round of ibuprofen for all contributors.
Nice pic's Sheri cant believe you forgot me in my DG shirt , but thats Okay. I will live with it. LOL
That's me trying to convince Kayte that she needs more seedlings!! I'm happy I found homes for so many. Do dmail me if anyone has questions about any of the varieties. I am particularly pleased to have been able to offer unusual things!
Two ideas, rachel:
first, I think some pot groupings would look better if a few of the pots were up on pedestals a la Little and Lewis. Then, at the base of the pedestal, a little variegated sedge or something to 'ground' it.
another idea, in terms of your 'flower bed'. Again, a variegated sedge planted all around, maybe mixed species but not too many, that would act as a 'dust ruffle'. I can give you more carex 'ice dance' if you want it.
Yeah - adding variety with differing heights for the pots would be cool. You can put almost anything around the bottom to camo . . . camofl . . . . camoufl . .. . to er, hide the pedestal.
I was thinking that having a 'bad hair day' carex at the bottom would also add needed texture to the design, and movement, too if you put one of those Stipa giganteas in the behind it. Or divide the smaller version of the stipa that you have up close to the porch and plant a division in front of it.
I so wanted to mount one of those bowling balls on rebar! Right in the center of the pot groupings and grow clematis or some billardiera longiflora up it. About 4' high. I found some balls (LOL) in the basement and I am gonna put it somewhere!
