Hugs and Luvs to you too Mary!
What I want to know is this: when you plant a heronswood hellebore in the ground, is one supposed to put a label stating that it comes from heronswood, or will the plant speak for itself?
Katie, I completely understand about wanting things to be perfect before people come. Don't anyone look too closely at my house. It's not done yet. Eyeglasses need to be checked at the door.
Speak for itself - but a label doesn't hurt if you are opening your garden (sort of like those little vertical red stripes on the heels of Prada shoes) -
Tils, I'm not the one to ask for help when spending comes round - I get a big pile on the cart, and just before getting to the cashier I start discarding everything with doubt - then get home, decided I really did need it and rush back. Not one of my more efficient practices. I now have a notebook that goes with me with a list, which gets added to, and everything on the list is allowed - hasn't worked yet, but it will! I think, or maybe not, but might - ohhhhhhhhhhh, sheesh.
Off to the library - sadly, they do not have horticultural material. I honestly think they would get a lot more business if they did. They on the other hand, don't care what I think.
Oh Laurie, I have to laugh! I do exactly the same thing! I think I am being so good by putting things back, then I turn right around and go back to buy them as fast as I can. You are in good company here!
I showed up at the Tacoma Garden Show a couple of years ago with a list of plants I wanted to look for, and trying to stick to the list. There was a booth operated by three master gardeners from this area and they had the coolest, most unusual plants in the entire place. I spent about 2 hours at their booth. Finally one of them asked to see my list. I showed it to her and she looked at it blankly and then asked, in a hushed tone, "Don't you ever just go to the nursery and buy what you like rather than using a list?" I laughed hysterically! It was the only time in my life that anyone had assumed that I was really organized!
Got want list in hand, took my catologs to work with me today for the ferry ride and my notebook.
And if he gives me "that Look" I'll ask Heidi to save it for me and then go back and get it later. And O do I have a list, I hope Heidi has them.
Plus I went back threw some of the treads and have that list too.
I'MMMM ready.
Mary -
I want a full report of what you're getting. I'm going to experience this vicarioiusly!! I want to share in the experience!
Can do
Going to say nite nite for now have to be up at 3am
will catch up tomorrow.
have a good nite.
Oh Tils! A list and a superlist and spontaneity!!!! Now this is covering the bases - along with Heidi put-aside plan! This is worked out plantaholicism - indeed indeed - some addictions are meant to be!
Hey tills let me know what is on your list so I can find it. Most men have fairly short attention spans in the nursery, Heidi
That would be the non-gardening men I'll bet you can't pull Jim away from the Hostas in the nursery or Tom away from the Brugs or Sofer away from, well, anything . . . LOL
No Worry on my DH's idea for plants, he is the one that found the Hellbore that will be blooming soon. He may not know the names, or how to take care of them, he leaves that to me, but pretty good at picking them out. He's a keeper. 20 years this July and counting. LOL
He sounds like a keeper Mary! Congrats on 20 years!
I like that the Scrapmeister is sitting. Superpuppy . . . . he's a smart one.
What a GOOD SIT! Deserves a big ol' hunka pepperoni, if you ask me!
Scrappy agrees!
Cute.
scrappies ears are almost up. I have a nice lady who comes out here and helps once and a while and she is always looking on the computer at the humane society at dogs and she said oh there is one that looks like turtle I said no, there is only one turtle. Actally there is another one named baily there . Nice dog with a very sad story and I could have more. Then tilly cmae today and nobody listened and they all ran around crazy got time out in the pen . Then I was think one more am I nuts.
They are good dogs, I was impress on how they listen to you when I was there, wish I could say the same about mine, not going to happen, they will lick you to death Ester) or want to be center stage (Tyler)
I was trying to leave the yard, in the car and this is on the roof, and would not go away.
Pic was taken from car seat looking up. this is Tilly my wonder cat never know where she will pop up.
Had so much fun today, Thank you
Roflol!! What a great picture! What did you get at Heidi's?
I know that look! "where are you going, are you going somewhere nice, should I be going with you, what are you getting......." (and that is my DH, the dog says 'got anything for me')

My DH was very interested in the bog garden, and Heidi explained it in detail. so I think he will make one.
I took Heidi a present for her dogs, they where toys the looked like cattle horns, she D-mail me and said Bo was very pleased with his new toy, she will post a pic.
My DH didn't pick out any plants, but so enjoyed walking around and taking it all in, Oh i take that back he did have a plant he liked, they where in the free pile they where Golden Yews He and mom thought would be great in woodland in one of the dark areas to brighten it up and Heidi agreed. and he said its Valentine's Day pick what ever you want, Wide Open O'boy $90.00+ and fill the back of my car.
Now for the good stuff, I got
"Kingston Cardinal"
And 2 other Hellbores I don't know the names, one was a Whitesh/pink, the other was a dark red.
"Tiger Eyes" Heidi only had two, and she wanted to keep one.
"Corydalis" 'Blue Heron'
Then we went to the need new homes pile, mom look at me and said , your kidding FREE, She was stunned for a moment.
I brought home
Magnola macrophylla
Lavandula
Escallonia
Andromeda
Those had tags, and a few others that I'll have to get back to Heidi on there names which she told me I just cant remember.
Heres the group after unloading.
Morning! That's a nice looking group of plants! :)
Tills ~ quite the haul. Very impressive. I have to admit to being a tad on the envious side. . .
Heidi was so much fun, next time Outta I'll let you know when I plan on going and you could go with or D-mail Heidi and go see her.
Thanks Suzy
Mary -
Look at the Solidaster:
http://www.bluestoneperennials.com/b/bp/SOLES.html
Looks like they will take half shade and they tolerate clay soil.
Marvellous day out! Excellent booty! I always get so excited putting in new plants - its so hard to maintain reality: as I'm planting they seem to do that alice in wonderland thing of one minute being the small one I'm planting and the next being fully grown and luscious! Oh, well, I love living in my reality.
Katie, Thanks it looks so pretty, But bigger than I thought it would be.
I planted all the bare rooted plants, Now to get with Heidi and find out what there are and if I put them in the right place, Thats part of it Laurie then you Worry Worry,
In the Right place or the wrong, how big will it get, how much will it spread. did I just create a monster you can't get rid of.
Good job, Mary. You'll have some fun surprises this summer.
Hey tills the rule of thumb in gardening you have to move every plant 3 times before it finds the right spot. The first picture is teucrium and the next is lonicera nidita. No worrys sometimes the labels might say one thing but the plants will also let you know if they are happy or not. You can always ask me or any one here any questions. We are all learning all the time. Heidi
Oooh. Lonicera nitida. Very nice - and it's pretty adaptible to different locations here. You can't go wrong with that.
Same with the Germander. I have several plants - they are tough, blossom beautiful and the bees love them.
You guys are gems
That is a picture of and aster. I gave you a tecrium H something. I don't know how to find listings here yet like pixy does so you can click on a photo. I got the seed from Germany Jellittos. I will figure it out for you. The speedwell is veronica. I think your variety is aztec blue. It has yellow foliage and blue flowers and is a clumper not a runner.
I have a Speedwell called 'Veronica teucrium' and it looks nothing like that, the leaves are different and its more scrawly, going to be fun to see. still want the one in the pic. if you got it.
Just got it this, went back and look at the group of plants, I was wrong the big clump in the front is the one that, I wanted as pictured,' I think' and there is another one with the arrow head leaves, witch I forgot. Got ahead of myself. so sorry Hillbilly coming out, LOL
