What is you favorite bands, songs, or singer?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I should not of started this as I have odd taste in music for my age. I am curious though to know what the rest of you like. Is there a song that has a special meaning for you? Or maybe a band that you would pay big bucks to see if they came to your town? Any singer that you seem to like just about every song they ever came out with, or just are mesmerized by their voice?

My taste extends from todays music to the 50's & 60's. I like Jazz, The Blues, Soft Rock, Hard Rock, Rap, Big Band, Folk, and some Country.
Here are a few of my all time favorites :
Fleetwood Mac
Bob Segar & The Silver Bullet Band
Alabama
Nickelback
Akon
Usher
Peter Frampton ~'Do you feel like I do?' (talking guitar)
Carlos Santana ~Anytime he plays guitar!
Sarah Mclachlan
Eva Cassidy

Don't feel bad, Celeste - I have very eclectic taste in music. Starting from the 20's! I like jazz, swing, big band, rock, R &B, some classical, some latin, some reggae and more. I have cd's of steel drum music, Italian music - all types of stuff! Like lots from the 60's through 80's too, especially the 70's. Was always a big Beatles fan, though not as much into them any more. There are a number of current artists I like as well. Rob Thomas, Michael Buble, Carrie Underwood (don't mess with her!), some stuff by Christina Aguilera, etc.

Can't stand rap. To me it's just not music. None of the 'artists' can actually sing. I did like it at the very beginning - the Sugar Hill Gang and other NYC pioneers. Now it's mainly thugs.

A few of my (many) favorite all-time acts: Queen, Earth, Wind & Fire, the Spinners, Temptations, Benny Goodman, Sinatra, Crosby, Ella, Sarah Vaughn, Joe Stafford, Johnny Hartman, Nat King Cole, Fats Waller and so many more!

North Augusta, ON

ok..why not?
I'll admit it.

I like Pavarotti.
Zucchero
Bob Seger
Big Wreck
Vera Lynn
Robbie Robertson...

I grew up on a lot of 60's music like Hendrix, The Who, Led Zep that I still listen to a lot
70's art rock like Pink Floyd,King Crimson,Alan Parsons
80's new wave like Gary Numan,Devo,Wire
90's shoegazers like Cocteau Twins,Lush and My Bloody Valentine
Lot of blues like Jimmy Reed,John Lee Hooker,Howling Wolf
Mix in some Sinatra,Boogie Down Productions and classic disco.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Pavarotti!! I love the opera! It does'nt matter who sings it when I go to the Met or the NYC opera they're all good to me! I have a classical music collection of a couple of hundred CDs. I listen to all the music up the the '90's on the radio, (I like the randomness), that's when I found out I needed an interpreter. ☺

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I finally went to a couple of operas and liked them a lot - of course they did not compare to Night at the Opera! I like the tenors. I also like the 'mix' stations. Anyone else have satellite radio?? I love it. You don't realize how many commercials and how much talk there is on commercial radio until you don't hear it! They have every type of music you could possibly be interested in, plus a whole lot more - talk, sports, news, comedy, etc.

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

I have a wide range of musical tastes also, but being a teen in the 80's, my first love is heavy metal. My brother and I had friends in a semi-successful local metal band, and we were all always very much into music and on the look-out for new bands. We went to see Scorpions, AC/DC (not really heavy metal, but a great band back then), Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, UFO, Rainbow, and many other bands when no one had ever heard of them, in small theatres in NYC.

My DH and I danced to the Scorpions as our first dance at our wedding. Just took my kids to see them a few months ago, and after building them up for weeks, had a sudden panic attack before the show that my kids would think they were duds, lol. Not to worry - my kids were blown away. Even though they are "way old men" they can still rock.

I really like some of the newer metal music, but I don't like the style of vocals now. Gives me a sore throat just listening, lol. Best new metal - Avenged Sevenfold.

I love blues, gospel, rock and roll, classical, and I won't listen to much opera, but I will go see an opera any day!

I do not like Jazz (maybe only a little Stanley Clarke). I do not like the Beatles. I don't like country.

I don't really like rap, but I love Eminem!

Best voices of people who can't really sing (if you know what I mean, lol!) - Robert Plant, Bon Scott, Steven Tyler (would be a great pure blues singer!), Bob Seger, Tina Turner (I love those raspy voices, for some reason!)

TRULY best voices - Klaus Meine, Freddie Mercury - best overall. Gorgeous voices. I am, as you say, truly mesmerized by Klaus Meine. He could sing my grocery list and I would love it, lol!

Rob Halford - great range. Ronnie Dio - best power. Paul Rodgers - good all around.
George Michael has quite a good voice also. Whitney Houston - I don't much like her style of music, but man oh man can that woman sing!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I agree with Freddie Mercury - fantastic voice. Whitney is great when she does not screech, which is not too often. Alisha Keys has a nice voice. Funny, your comment about a sore throat and new metal bands is what I would say about most of the ones you like!! Just shows how everyone is different in their tastes!

(Zone 4a)

Matchbox 20
James Blunt - love his music!
Rob Thomas
Rascal Flatts
Elton John - he is coming to Sudbury by the way - only 2 stops in Canada and we are one of them!!!
Sarah McLachlan - another top fav!
Dr Hook
ABBA
Faith Hill and of course Tim McGraw
Josh Grobin

(Zone 4a)

Oh and I forgot to say I think one of the sexiest songs is from Dr Hook - sharing the night together...I always blush when that song comes on LOL

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I always liked Dr. Hook too. We saw them in concert in Rochester NY many years ago, very good show.

My all time favorite is Moody Blues, and my favorite song is 'I Know You're Out There Somewhere'

I'm not a concert person, but my daughter got us tickets to see the Moody Blues when they came to Syracuse at the Landmark theater. We were in the balcony, and part way into the first song the crowd stood up and that balcony was bouncing up and down. Later on I found it was built to do that, but at the time it scared me so it ruined the concert for me.

I got a great new stereo for Christmas, SONY Bravia, and I can hear the music anywhere in my garden with the window open, now, so don't have to use the walkman.

(Zone 4a)

Oh yeah and who could forget ACDC!!!! Love them too!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

One of my favorite songs - Escape (the pina colada song).

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Me too Victor!!

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

Actually, I haven't been able to listen to AC/DC for the last 20 years, since Bon Scott died. Cannot stand Brian Johnson's voice. Talk about nails on a chalkboard, lol!

Funny Victor! You sound like my mother, lol - which is the same thing my kids would say - but they would be meaning me, of course, lol! The thing with the new metal is that all the singers sound exactly the same (oh, man, I AM sounding old, lol) but they really do. Regardless of their natural voice, they all scream in a real deep throaty voice, ten octaves deeper than normal. Ruins lots of good songs - and probably their vocal cords, too, lol!

Forgot to add Andrea Bocelli - I don't know a lot of his music, but from what I've heard, he has a wonderful voice.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Also being married to a country boy and all I like this song too.

John Deere Green'
They were farm kids way down in Dixie
Met in high school in the sixties
Everyone knew it was love from the start
One July in the midnight hour
He climbed upon the water tower
Stood on the rail and painted a 10ft heart
In John Deere Green

On a hot summer night
He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene
In letters 3 foot high
And the whole town said that he should have used red
But it looked good to Charlene
In John Deere Green

They settled down on 80 acres
Raising sweet corn, kids, and tomatos
They went together like a hand and a glove
On a clear day from their front yard
If you look and know what to look for
Off to the east you can still read his words of love
In John Deere Green

On a hot summer night
He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene
In letters 3 foot high
And the whole town said the boy should have used red
But it looked good to Charlene
In John Deere Green

Now more than once
The town has discovered
painting over it ain't no use
There ain't no paint in the world
That'll cover it, the heart keeps showing through
In John Deere Green

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes he does. Josh Groban has a great voice. My all-time favorite rock song is Bohemian Rhapsody.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's nice, Celeste.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

No Victor.....it's funny!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like the green heart!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

DH says he would of done something like that back when he was 16 so I giggle every time I here it. Not to mention the initals are right. (B & C)

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I think I like this thread topic better than movies/t.v.!

Celeste, I enjoy the John Deere Green song, too. Although I like Kenny Chesney's "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" better. I'm a country music fan, especially the classics. My favorites today are Brad Paisley (The Fishing Song, especially) and Toby Keith.

Dawn, thank you for mentioning Dr. Hook - haven't heard his stuff in years. My favorites from then were The Band and Creedence.

I always enjoyed Big Band music and Sinatra, Lena Horne, and Tony Bennett.

Actually, I like everything pre-1980's! Something happened to music around then, don't know what, but it severely declined.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

If anyone saw the movie 'Pope of Greenwich Village', you'll remember a great scene where they're playing stickball with Sinatra's Summer Wind playing. Well I had a local radio station play it for us a few years during our annual game. Pretty cool.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I went to see Queen in person when they came to Maine. I was 18 and I loved every minute of it. I also went to see 'America' play when I was around 20, just had to hear 'Horse w/no Name' and 'Daisy Jane'.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Love them too. And the Eagles and Doobies.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I'd forgotten CCR, DH can't understand how I left them out and John Fogerty!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

doobie, doobie, doo

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes the Eagles, have them in my X-Terra.

For my DD 25th Birthday I bought her tickets to see Stevie Nicks in Mass. I have been listening to Fleetwood Mac since I was 16-18, DD has been listening to S.N. since she was 2. She always could pick out her voice no matter what, and had asked for S.N. greastest hits CD. I bought the CD and stuck the tickets inside the sleeve. She told me it was the best birthday ever!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thank you Victor, I just got jolted back 30 years!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Well, I'm an Andy Kim groupie! Have seen him 6-7 times. When he sings Rock Me Gently in person, you can almost see the girl he's singing to!

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

Victor, every time I hear Summer Wind, I think of The Pope of Greenwich Village!

My thumb, Charlie! They took my thumb!

I think they played it at the end of Finding Nemo also...

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Simpson's had it in the one where Martin had the pool.

(Zone 4a)

Primrose whenever I am feeling romantic I often put on Dr Hook - not sure why??? OMG I am soooooooooo lame!!

When I am doing chores I love ABBA - gets me in the mood to clean! LOL Ha!

I have to admit I was also an Ozzy fan way back when....OMG lame again?!!?!
