Diary locations or zones?

I enjoy reading thru the diaries. Many times I am curious as to the locale of the author when a specific plant or weather is mentioned.

I know that I can fast forward to the DGrs member page to find their zone.

It would be convenient to have that info listed on the header with the DGrs name if not too much trouble???

That's something that each individual member has to set up from their preference page by adding their state and zip code into their location preference. Not everyone wants to share that info though so it's not automatic.

hmmm ... Why would anyone not want to share their growing zone? On your preference page I think you can still list your plant hardiness growing zone without listing the state in which you reside. I will have to go to my own preferences and play with it to make sure! I don't visit the diary pages but I agree that it would be a great idea to have the zone listed in the header of each diary page for folks who are interested in certain plants.

Oh I read that wrong, it's in the Diary header you wanted that listed, not here in the threads.
I guess it's something that perhaps Dave can add as an option when someone starts a Diary or Journal.

Some people don't want their city shown so not sure if just setting the zip code without the state will just add the zone.

I've seen some folks posting and instead of a city and state it says something like: waydownsouth texas ... or something like that but I think it shows a zone. I can't remember for sure so will have to watch for the person posting again. I'm still trying to find my preference page where we list all that info.

Go to>My Info tab above (or click on your name in your post) >Manage My Preferences> and then on the right hand side is a box with several options. You click on Your Location

Oh thanks Sue ... I found it earlier and it looks like you can leave the state blank but list a zone. Wonder how difficult it would be for Dave to arrange a zone to show up in everyone's diary?

Thank you Lin ~ yes, that is what I meant to ask. If just a zone or state was on the diary page, I could at a glance see where they were located in reference to their weather, planting times, plants, etc. Just being nosy I guess. pod in Deep East Texas LOL
