Slow....

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Is anyone else having trouble navigating here? Links won't work, then they do, then they don't. Mostly they don't, and I have to right click and open them in a new window. I'm on high speed cable, and this has happened several times recently. Is it just me?

Things have been a little bit slow the last few minutes, links work fine but just a bit on the slow side. If your links aren't popping up, it could be something with your popup blocker, I know mine will sometimes block links that try to open in new windows, sometimes it seems like it's more zealous about blocking things than other times.

No it is not just you.

I just rebooted and it took forever for DG to open. Even though this puter is old and slow, it isn't usually THAT slow.

It's slow for me too. It has been worse but it's still unusual.

Good to hear. I think.

No, it's not the pop-up blocker. And I've been opening the links in a new window to speed things up a little. I've had this problem before and it finally cleared up on its own, but it is back. I got off for a while and rebooted. Hoping to see a change.

I'm not sure, but I think this happens when a large search engine like google is sweeping the site. Hopefully it will speed up soon.

Interesting. I hope so too.

I don't post much anymore but am still a member and use the PlantFiles, etc. It is very slow and 'adserver' is on the bottom left when I attempt to change pages. Is it the ads? Hope not..

I don't see anything about adserver when I look at Plant Files--try going into your preferences and turning off the ads. The site has been occasionally slow for periods over the last couple days though so it may not have anything to do with ads.

ecrane3, thank you, thank you!
I didn't realize you could turn off the ads. I found it in preference and took them away and the site works SO much faster now! I thought I was gonna lose my mind, pages were taking a long time to load (usually our DSL is really quick), after 15 seconds I'd refresh, and sometimes that wouldn't work, and I'd have to do it again.
I also kept seeing "adserver", so ncgardenaddict, you might want to try this too!
Thanks again, Cathy

One thing I've noticed is that DG tends to slow down at certain times of the day (e.g. 6:30 pm ET, when folks are getting home and logging on, etc.). I have also found that Firefox (which I use) can inadvertently be the problem. I found this link:

via the WONDERFUL Tagging system, and it helped speed things up for me immensely.

I turned off the ads a long time ago but the past 1 1/2 weeks I've noticed the slowness on site. It hasn't gotten to the point that it bothers me though. I am one of very little patience and haven't found this to be so bad that I am aggravated by it.

edited to say: I use Safari and my DH is always telling me I should use Firefox, which he prefers! Maybe I will try it tomorrow.
