Not placing this in healthy living because there's nothing healthy about margarine. But sometimes I just like a nice spread that melts and spreads smoothly. Currently I look for margarines (never for cooking or baking, just adding at the table) which have canola oil or olive oil added to "butter" they say to help it spread better. Or I look for Brummels and Browns Yogurt Spread (which is STILL margarine), I find I like the sweet flavor and don't get that with butter.
I use real butter for baking and cooking.
Has anyone out there compared the nutritional labels on margarines that could tell me which is best of all the evils for me????
Also, I am buying the bulk Sam's Club brand of butter. The flavor leaves much to be desired. Which is the BEST tasting butter?
Butter/Margarine Comparisons
We quit using margarine years ago. Went back to butter, and we use a lot less as a result. It has the flavor we were seeking. And we do consume/use a lot of EVOO. Sometimes mix butter and olive oil to make garlic toast - using fresh herbs from the garden.
In Texas, Falfurias is probably the best. I have been looking at the farmers market for some home-churned from organic fed cows, but have not had any luck, yet.
Separately - DW won't eat eggs unless they are from the farmers market - so much better.
Really bubba, on the eggs, that is wonderful to know!!!! WHAT farmers market are you going to, we are near you here. I've often wanted to try FRESH eggs. I buy egglands "best" they say but don't know if they ARE better than the old store eggs everyone else sells. Or I try to buy natural grain-fed free-range chickens eggs.
Falfurias, is that available everywhere?
I know the manager for 2 of them - the one at Rice on Tuesday 3-6PM, and at T'afia on Saturday morning - 8-12.
I usually hit the Rice FM on University in the stadium parking lot. Almost always buy some cheese, bread, meat, and veggies, as well as coffee beans.
When we go to T'afia - usually buy a breakfast, too - the chiliqueles (sp) are great.
I first discovered Falfurias in San Antonio in '64. Even Foodarama carries it here in Houston - so i think you could get it at any supermarket here.
thank-you :)
