North Augusta, ON

(sigh)
I must be slipping in my older age, I have yet to buy anything!!
Mom, on the other hand, has a huge order pending thanks to me giving her all of my seed catalogs to browse :))

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I've been good this year (so far). I bought about a dozen packs of Burpee locally - what I like to call the "generic" seeds: foxglove, cosmos, larkspur marigold, sun flowers, moon flowers.

From Select Seeds I ordered 4 seeds and 3 plants: night phlox, mixed stock, white Thunbergia, and Asarina 'Satin Slippers'. For plants Chrysanthemum 'Hillside Sheffield Pink', Geranium 'Mr. Wren', and Geranium 'Appleblossom Rosebud' (Queen Victoria's favorite!).

From Park's, 5 seeds - Sunrise Lupine, Linaria, Alyssum pastels, Nasturtium 'Fragrant Giant' (10 ft.), and Penstemon Esprit mix.

Still am waiting for my Thompson & Morgan catalogue. I love their variety. May have to just order online this year.

Besides that, I already have about 140 different seeds at home to pick and choose from!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Only one order so far - Fairweather. Two cryptomerias, two viburnums, a mullberry, a tree peony and a pitcher plant. I'll probably be ordering from Garden Crossings and Brent & Becky, and will get a couple more JM's from Wildwood and annuals from Mischel's.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I must admit I am in your corner Pix. The early snows got to me big time and as soon as, and even before in some cases, the catalogs started rolling in I was a soft target. I had told myself I was not going to go nuts again this year as I have to get some evergreens and shrubs for the newly cleared area along the drive but that vow went by the boards really quickly, once I put an order in here and a % off discount was available there and I could get a shrub from this new place and while I'm at it might as well..... you all know what I mean. So far about 60 or so plants, some are shrubs and some are multiples of plants like from Bluestone. I have ordered from WFF, Bluestone, Garden Crossings, Sooner Plant Farm, and Ashdown Roses. I do tell myself since some of them are shrubs maybe its really not that bad and it is not as much as last year. Here are some of the shrubs:
Chaemomies speciosa Iwai Nishiki
Kolkwitsia amabilis Dream Catcher
Forsythia Show Off
Deutzia Chardonnay Pearls
Viburnum trilobum Red Wing
Fothergilla Blue Shadow
Itea Henry's Garnet
Also a bunch of perennials including several new echinacea, a few more delphs, balloon flowers, rudbeckias, columbines and a couple roses.

(Zone 4a)

Wow pixie that will certainly keep you busy!!! Will you be buying more stuff in the spring?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Dawn, I want to say NO....but I know better. So more than likely, YES.

ngam, thank you for sharing that, I don't feel so alone now. Hee hee
I think we will feel much better once Patti fess's up! LOL

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

I've bought a few packets of seeds locally, but I don't know what to buy yet! I'm looking through magazines, catalogues, and on-line and dreaming and planning!! Eleanor

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Nothing Yet!
I'm working on placing an order for 3 JM's w/Wildwood.
I looked at the seed heating mats the other day, and looked at streams too.

Poughkeepsie, NY(Zone 6a)

A few seed packs (veggies) and I just got a Cymbidium orchid today. She's a beauty!
"Maureen Carter".

I'm trying to behave myself a little this winter with the buying but as spring approaches all bets are off!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Gee, Deb, I didn't know you could buy a real stream!

You guys are all getting me interested in the Japanese Maples. Victor, this seems to be your passion these days - do you buy mail-order, or at a nursery?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Deb, did you have to remind me of the heating mats and the lights too!
I forgot about the geranium "Jolly Bee" and "Daphene McKenzie"(sp?)

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Sorry, Celeste, who thought of this thread anyway?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

One of my passions. I would put dwarf conifers and (still) clematis in there too. Mostly from Wildwood, but I have also bought a few from Fairweather. Bought two for the pond at a nursery.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

me(in the smallest whisper i can muster)

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Thanks!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No problem! They are really gorgeous and deserve a place in every garden in my opinion.

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

So far:
6 astilbe
2 dahlia
3 hosta
6 liriope "Sunproof"
3 Xmas Fern
and far too many seeds!
Just received a new batch of catalogs, so undoubtedly more will be coming soon.

Thomaston, CT

Lots of lilies, Pix. I ordered a few from B&D lilies--Holland Beauty,Altari, Red Alert & Sue, I also ordered Penstemon Esprit mix---I bought 3 from a local nursery last summer--I was told they are annuals--but the catalog lists them as hardy to zone 3. They were lovely by the stone walls, so I hope they return. I also bought many dahlias & daylilies, but since I ordered last fall, I've forgotten what I ordered!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Robin, I almost ordered 'Holland Beauty', thought they were lovely but I already have to many lilies!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I vividly remember saying to Jack last year that I would not be buying many plants this year. Famous Last Words. I already have lots ordered and haven't hit the Iris and Lilies yet. I was feeling a little guilty so sent out two checks to favorite charities. Have to keep a balance.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Among other things, I spent $9.75 for 15 eggplant "Tango" seeds.

Seemed like a good idea. Johnny's carries good stuff. Then I saw a Perdue study which rated "Ghostbuster" as having a higher yield.

Oh well....I'll find out what the most expensive eggplant seeds I've ever seen produce.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Technically I'm doing well since I ordered in early December (we will not discuss that order!), before the real start of winter. I've also ordered caladiums from the co-op and coleus from the Classified Ads. I still have dahlias to order.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

DG classifieds? Never thought of that. I still never tried a co-op either.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I pre-ordered 2 dwarf JMs but they're due in April-May. I have a pretty good amount of nurseries in my area and they still havent opened their doors so I'll see what they have locally first. I may be able to avoid plant shock and shipping costs. ☺

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I've been busy with home repairs and not ordered anything plant related - but I need to!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Where did you order the JM's from, WC?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I have been SO GOOD! I bought some seeds from valueseeds (the ones with a 50% germination rate, so it won't be my fault) and some from Parks I think, but nothing live. I HAVE been buying more beverages in winter sowing type containers. I'm like Primrose Sue - if I actually got flowers out of half the seeds I have, it would be enough to open a florist shop. So I need many congratulations for my unusual self-restraint, please! xx, Carrie

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Mendocino VG, I want a good size pot. ☺

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

WC - which are your favorite nurseries on L.I. for JM's?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Pirl's been texting again ;)

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Don, after reading your list, I wanted to sing out, "and a partridge in a pear tree"!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi pirl, for JMs I order out,... you know Island prices for those here! LOL! - not to mention they don’t have a varied selection. I've got about 10 nurseries within 5 miles of here including Bloominghaus which is awesome; they even have their own petting zoo with lamas & peacocks! I usually park at the perennials section and then move the car to the bushes and tropicals section across the street when I'm there, it's huge! - and the prices are excellent ☺!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - you know it's big when you have to drive from perennials to tropicals!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

If you went there VG you'd spend the whole day there! ☺

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Well Carrie congrates on such great self-discipline. I admire anyone who can deal with the crummy weather and stay strong in the face of catalog and internet temptation. Many people seem to be able to control themselves much better than I can when all those pretty pics start popping up in front of my eyes and now another category of tempting beauties, JMs. Oy!!!

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

carrielamont....Does Value Seeds list seeds with a low germination rate? Or is 50% what you can expect when you order from them? I loaded up and am now thinking I need to start more than anticipated.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I think I may have got that figure from their Watchdog rating, or from my own lack of confidence, or maybe got my tongue stuck in my cheek! They are T & M's outlet or last year's overstocks, but don't quote me on that. Their seeds are not as fresh as they could be, but most of my collection is a few years old anyway so it doesn't really make a difference to me. [I need to remember that seeds are for planting, not collecting!] The other thing about VS is that the packages don't have pictures or instructions or much of anything - I need to keep referring back to the website. x, Carrie

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I just found another order I had placed, some of these are free bonus seeds.

Yellow Columbine seeds
Salvia Splendens Salsa Rose seeds
Pink Pampass Grass seeds
Mixed Coleus seeds
Black Dragon Coleus seeds
Rare Yellow Morning Glory seeds
Yellow Bells (Tecoma Stans)
Penny Black Nemophila

I know there is another order somewhere with Clematis seeds and such, just can't remember where I put it!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I ordered a Pieris last night. Was not looking for it but...This one has red buds which open to pink flowers so I had to have it!
