Let's be honest....what have you bought so far this winter?

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor do you really want to know??? 67 roses... yes, I am crazy!!!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Not any crazier than the rest of us!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - that's a lot.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Kassia - you can hold your own Tournament of Roses parade!

(...and TR is a lovely, lovely rose)

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Sue! Now, if only time goes fast!!!!! I was looking at garden yesterday... I finally walked all around and I have some serious clean up to do soon!!!

Pirl, I have to update my list... well lets see if I remember where is the list!!!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Join the crowd.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

-Sorry, can't talk - have to shop - cantaloupe vs. honeydew but mini - must shop - what the heck are all these seeds from last year - gotta shop!

x, Carrie

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh wow Kassia, but just think how gorgeous your garden will look if we ever get to garden weather. Getting really itchy here for spring and with the last bit of snow melting and rain showers today I have been watching a bunch of robins and dreaming of warm spring days.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

My mom used to sing to us (well many things but I am reminded of):
Teeraleeraleera, in the spring,
orioles and robins sweetly sing,
from the leafy branches you can hear,
teeraleeraleera, spring is here!

Walmart had nothing the other day. So all I have bought is a dang TV where DH or I don't even know how to work the dang remote control ! We are incapable of hooking the dang thing up. So in other words 3 grand sitting there with just the regular mode. The Geek Squad is coming Thursday................. Thank God.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

DH is out now getting something to get the new DVD working. It's frustrating at best.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Spent $30 at Gurney thanks to Jan... all her fault!! xx, Carrie

Pix---I love penstemon--where did you get hot pink? My gardens are finally free of snow--saturated & brown---but I'm already dreaming of what I can rip out--too many iris, & blankety-blank melon daylilies that were supposed to be lavender & purple, & I'll only deal with reputable daylily places, now--good lesson! I also have a demon daylily that is hot peach & red, forms clumps a mile wide, & is hideous--I keep digging the clumps out--they keep showing up! The lovely ones just sort of languish, & get shaded out by the demons!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Ahem, Robin, too many Iris? Melon DL? I don't care about pedigree, just not ORANGE. Even your demon sounds nicer than what we don't have. Er, if I sent you lots and lots of postage and a box and my first born child, and anything else i have that you want, and buy you a pink penstemon, could you see your way clear to throwing some of your rejects my way? Have I ever mentioned how remarkably compassionate toward all living things (except demon DLs) your posts are, dear Robin? LOL. xx, Carrie

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Robin, I have Penstemon 'Mystica' (reddish leaves, lavender-pink blossoms) if you'd like some seeds. I just ordered the 'Esprit' mix from Park's - I'm hoping to sprout the red ones with white centers.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi... oh well you guys are good enablers... thanks for the support... could not do it without you!!!!

anyway I was wondering the net and DG searching for ideas for tomato cages, and support ideas in general... found this interesting site ... I am going to try to make one... http://www.tsflowers.com/plantstand.html

and another site I got big nurserie pots... and other things... good prices and good review on DG...

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

robin - i am sure you will be bringing some of the reject DLs to the roundup, right? What is so bad about the hot peach and red ones?

I just went to the novoselenterprises.com website. Last year I bought a box of 1000 4"x 3.75" Jiffy Peat Pots for 66.61 that included shipping. When I put my order in, I won't pay shipping on nothing belive it or not. Is that a part of having a "big" GH?

I order from a guy locally that has 6 HUGE GH's. He is a dealer for a bunch of people. Maybe that helps.

Thomaston, CT

Amethyst---you really have to see them----Where is the roundup? I can't travel too far because of my husband's health--also helping to care for my 93 yr old mother. Also babysit for my 2 granddaughters--almost 3, & 15 months, & a brother due in April! That's why we are not in FL this winter!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

kassia this is my second year buying from novoselenterprises.... good shipping and prices

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Ok - I bought vegetable seeds. Three kinds of red lettuce - for a friend and white tomatoes and striped eggplant. But I'm going to go crazy real soon - I can just feel it.

Edited to say that I forgot the watermelon seeds - for my neighbors yard. But then I just bought perenial rye, roma tomatoes, spicy mustard and red kale.

robin - where is Thomaston, CT? i've been here for over three years now, and still don't know where anything is...

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh I am glad I am not paying shipping either... and the thing is I got notification today that the pots have been shipped already... really good to know!!!!

Thomaston, CT

Amethyst--we are north of Waterbury & south of Litchfield--small town--home of Seth Thomas, maker of clocks--of course the factory moved out years ago, but the building is still here--plus 3 federal flood control dams! We live above one--I tried to send a picture to the weather thread, but don't know if it was successful--my DIL posted the last pics for me. Are you in New Haven for school or work?

Wow Seth Thomas. This one is called Beehive.

If you who plant from seed, especially good for plants that don't want their roots disturbed, there's Cow Pots and a co-op is being formed for ordering them in two sizes:

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

we are in new haven for DH's work - he was hired as a 1 year emergency appointment at SCSU 3.5 years ago, but they liked him so much they kept him!
i was desperate to get out of NYC - i did NOT adapt well, so it was quite a relief to come here, but now i am pretty much ready to move on. He says he is too, but doesn't really seem to be...
i was going to school because i got a tuition waiver, and i never did it in my youth. i liked it at first.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

So where do you want to go?

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Depends if you mean temporarily or permanently.
Temporarily, almost anywhere.
Places i think i'd stay?
Tennessee (preferably east or central. Knoxville is real nice).
Kentucky.
Maybe even home to STL (for a while, at least).
Since going there last month, L.A.
New Zealand - when we visited, i was ready to stay forever.

Somewhere further south for sure.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I really need to keep away from the keyboard now. I did order another v. dentatum to go with 'Blue Muffin'. I have no idea if they will bloom at the same time but I am hoping. It is 'Raspberry Tart'. http://www.soonerplantfarm.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/plants.plantDetail/plant_id/656/index.htm If they don't overlap blooms here I will have to try another one I guess, but not this year, waaaaay too much coming already. I am going to wait on the trilobum companion too, mostly because I am hoping there are others around and if not I already have a list started for next year. An early spring would certainly ease this urge to shop.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

All my dentatums bloom around the same time.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh good, I hope I have a similar outcome. Thank for all the info. Victor. :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You're welcome.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Amy, do you think you'd be happier if you'all moved out of that apartment into somewhere with more of an outdoors? xxx, Carrie

Thomaston, CT

Liked the photo of the clock--we, of course, have a Seth Thomas--I think everyone in town does--some are antiques, but ours is only 30 yrs. old. Everyone is posting photos--I still cannot do it! My photos are stuck in a file somewhere, & I can't seem to move them! Dahlia planters--Are you planting them in with other plants, or beds by themselves? I've been planting in beds, but I would like to incorporate with other plants--what does well with the tall dahlias?

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Ok, got here late...again...new job, new shift, blah blah blah.

I just got my income tax return (which is really plant spending money...lol). Due to the fact the Pirl is evil, I will be visiting Ensanata...also...Paul is getting a purple/white themed garden this year...I just placed an order for some hosta...go figure! I only picked out 3, and that was a little pricey, I'm finding out I like the newer hosta, and hard to find...or...pain in the butt to grow hosta. I just ordered, from Jim's Hosta, hostas 'Lakeside Mom' 'Winter Lightning' and 'Nougat'...'Nougat' was the closest thing I could find in this country on 'Oil on Canvas'...I'm not saying how much these 3 beauties cost.

next to ensanata...then...*gulp*...Stamile...oye

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I sorted all my new seeds last night.... wow did I buy too many this year.... more than I thought

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

The evil pirl here! I still haven't placed my final Dutch Gardens order nor the Dan's Dahlias. I think Dutch Gardens will have their free shipping offer at the very end of March or early April but I may give in and place an order just to be sure I get what I want.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I totally understand that... once in a while you just have to

I keep wondering if I am going to have enough space for the seeds I bought

hehe

soon find out

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Plant first - worry later.
