It Happens Tonight

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., have obtained the first images of asteroid 2007 TU24 using high-resolution radar data. The data indicate the asteroid is somewhat asymmetrical in shape, with a diameter roughly 250 meters (800 feet) in size. Asteroid 2007 TU24 will pass within 1.4 lunar distances, or 538,000 kilometers (334,000 miles), of Earth on Jan. 29 at 12:33 a.m. Pacific time (3:33 a.m. Eastern time).

You can watch it tonight so be sure to wear your warmest jammies!

Oh, man, I missed it. I knew I should have check this forum for your cool updates and info. My DB, who lives in the boonies, has a very cool telescope. We've all sat out on his deck and checked out the moon many times. It's a great way to spend an evening, even if it is freezing.

A few years ago a friend and I heard about a meteor shower that was going to have very good viewing from up north here. We started out around 8 pm as it was getting dark. We watched the showers all night long and got home at 5 am. The most impressive ones were right before the sun started coming up, some even looked a bit like fireworks. I had a sunroof in my car then and we both squeeeeeeed through it to see the whole sky but still stay warm from the heater. That was worth staying up all night for!
