Valentine Stories

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Wow Dee, i am not much of a believer in fate, but that story really does make you think some things are meant to be!
What a lovely image, Wrightie. That is a thought that can be applied to many situations, but i can see why it resonates particularly with you! And what a wonderful gift from your friend to give you a beautifully written copy.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice, wrightie.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Nothing to shake up here. I also agree that Valentine's Day is a Hallmark type creation. However, it's based on something real that both men and women equally need. Please don't lump us women in the mushy category.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I second that request.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hmm - 'mushy', 'lump' and 'shake' all in one post.

Lyndonville, VT

I have to disagree on that, maybe its just the military in me. I don't take my mushy to the public.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

But you ridicule those that do.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I know I haven't written my story here. It hasn't happened yet. I feel that it is yet to come. I have patience. I intend to enjoy everyday finding love in my son, my dog and nature.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Victor, those sound like words you'd use in a gravy recipie.

Right on wrightie.

Lyndonville, VT

Not really, but it does make me feel uncomfortable. My 22 year old daughter is getting married in july, and she is a very emotional and show your love in public type person, I have called her on it before. Just isn't me thats all, my father and grandfather were the same way.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

That's fine. Please don't criticize us here though. If you're personally uncomfortable, maybe you could keep it to yourself, or not read the thread?

I like you here in DG. Come join us in other NE threads.

Harper

I am totally under the understanding that all these threads are public, and Opinions are welcome, I don't think I have broke any of the DG forum rules, if I have moderator, please delete my post. There are different sides on every topic, when one side of issue or story is discussed there is a totally opposite side in most cases. Every single sole in this world is entitled to that.

Its OK to be different and to have different values and opinions. I totally wasn't trying at first to offend a single sole on this thread, but now I guess its become a some people are not entitled to their opinion. I will leave this thread, no problem there, if DG wants to refund my membership money, that will be ok too. Steve

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

No Steve, you didn't break any rules, but you maybe kinda hurt some people's feelings.
If i came into a public place in the real world where you and your friends were hanging out, and made comments about your personal life, or behaviour, you may well say, "Well, i don't care about that sort of thing - what people say about me." But surely you'd think i was rather ill-mannered, especially if i didn't know most of you very well.
It's the same thing here. We joke around with each other, but mostly when we have "talked" enough to feel comfortable to. We don't know you that well yet - and i think your reception on DG (at least from what i've read on the NE forum) has been quite welcoming. Members of this site like to meet new people, and they have been very generous with me in the time i've been here - both online and sometimes in person. People here come from a variety of backgrounds, a lot of us might never meet each other in the real world. i'd like to think we try to respect our differences. And it can be hard to hear "tone of voice" in a plain text comment.
i don't think anyone wants you to leave, just remember, we're all people doing the best we can to live life as well as we can - and sharing some bits of time with each other along the way...
i am really grateful that i found so many DG friends!

Oh, man. Don't go Steve, of course you're entitled to your opinion. We're good people here.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Steve - we've had differences of opinions here many times and the best way to handle it is to talk it out. As Amy said, it's hard to hear a tone of voice when you are posting words only and someone may not know if you are LOL or serious and critical. Repeating what Harper said if you don't like a thread you don't have to read it. I've been misunderstood a lot cause i tend to think faster than I type and leave out ceratin details. I now re-read what I type and ask myself if it might hurt someone feelings and I try to be more careful. Sometimes I think I might be funny but it comes out all wrong cause the wink of the eye and tone of voice are missing. Don't leave - losen up and have some fun. Some of us have small places and there is not much for us to do in the winter except enjoy each other's company and we do!!!!!!! Eleanor

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Well Steve, you are entitled to your opinion but most people who are in your own words ("Not really, but it does make me feel uncomfortable") don't usually return to a place where they ARE uncomfortable and try to stir up the dirt.
If you didn't have a story to share, then why feel the need to pick apart or riducle the ones who did share?

Edited because I let my anger get the best of me. Very unlike me..hanging head in shame if anyone read it before I deleted it.

Right on Amy, Eleanor and Celeste.

Lyndonville, VT

I really don't have time to hang out here, I will continue to share around DG but not on Northeast, IMO there are too many unsecure people on this section of this site, I have recieved countless personal emails from people that believe I wasn't offending anyone. So at that...Good luck with your off garden topics, I will be talking gardening with others on DG.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

... moving along.

Here's a rose I'd like to share for all those who have shared their stories. ☺

Beautiful rose WC. Amy, I love crown of thorns. I have a white one, want a red one too.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Very interesting indeed!! Who would a thought that sharing stories of how people met their significant others would turn into something so ugly!!! This is the first time I've seen such anger on DG - only been a member for a year!! It always makes me feel awful when people can't get along. Eleanor
p.s. - What's going to happen on the other forums when the same people are posting? I still think it is better to work out differences of opinion so that people can "post together"!! We've always, as far as I know, been able to put up with each other's differences and opinions in the Northeast forum - it just takes effort and understanding from everyone in the community. We don't have to agree with everyone but there is a rule - do to others as you would have them do to you!! (Read that someplace) We're not here to judge or be judged, but to help each other whether it's gardening issues or personal issues!!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Thanks - and thanks for the ID - i took the picture out at the Living Desert in Palm Desert CA. They have ID tags near almost everything, but this one was a mystery. It is beautiful!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I think I'm unsecured Eleanor. Will someone please tie me down?

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

How true, Eleanor. (While visiting those other forums perhaps he can go help the Indigenous (no, Native - no, Wild, er, hmmm...) Plants forum find a name everyone agrees on...)

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

O - i bet you'll have plenty of volunteers for THAT!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

No, really. I think I will make a great effort to get along with everyone in DG. I usually do... I sorta thought I was. A lot of people I know got in arguments last night and this morning... must have something to do with that eclipse.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I have a new cute puppy, hard to argue when a puppy's around!

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

*sigh* ... I'm supposed to be driving up to see my cute new puppy in CT tomorrow, but they're calling for an ice storm and we may have to delay the trip. ... cruel & unusual punishment, that is ...

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I ♥ the NE group!!!!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Wrightie, you're getting a puppy too? Oh, I can hardly stand it. I love puppies! Kittens too. I don't wear lace or ruffles... too cutesy for me, but I'm a sucker for a little puppydog! Lucky you! So, you're coming north all the way from DC to CT for your puppy? What kind? That is cruel & unusual punishment, I tell ya... Sometimes Mother Nature.... oh, I don't want to say anything. She might give me a hard freeze in May.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Yep, our breeder is in CT. We lost our Great Dane to old age back in June, so we've had an empty house since then. We're getting another Dane. The wait is Killllllllin me!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Oh, Great Dane puppies are the number one cutest! Their paws are enourmous!! Hang on. Yeah, you shouldn't drive in bad conditions. Will you go Saturday instead?

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm hope hope hoping that we can go tomorrow, but yes, Plan B is to head out on Sat. AM.
