PNW 2008 planned events

Definitely worth the wait! I'm in for the Dragonfly and Jim's trip on the 27th. I thought Gwen was taking the reins for the L and L trip because she was trying to organize it before and got mixed messages from them. that's why we had to put it off. Gwen you might check their website and see if they have any planned open houses at all this year that we could just take advantage of. You've probably already done that.

Jim, you sound like me! And every other gardener I know!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Jim don't worry we will love it!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Okay. Cool. So Easter's the 23d. And it's the 27th for Dragonfly Farms and Jim's Hostas and Spheres. And some time in May, to be determined by Gwen and L&L for the visit there.

Cool.

Kingston, WA

sounds great.. Can't you tell I have no idea about holidays or much just 7 days a week work and things blend together. The pups always have a holiday so they aren't very good about telling me about the Easter bunny. Remember that L and L has cannas and bananas and in May they might be up some. July is the best. Or August. I know everyone is excited, Heronswood might open up again the end of July or August and then Maybe you could hit the 2. Debbie T might know more. Maybe later in the month I'll check to see if I can get the scoop. Heidi

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Heidi!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Cannas and bananas . . . oh my!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

So the 27th is it, Got it.
If there are any changes PLEASE let me know at least 2 weeks out, or I might not be able to go. (And I want to). Its going to be hard for me to go to Jim"s then back track to home turf. but I will do it. Sounds like fun to me

Outa, Are you planing to go???? Can meet at my house, leave one rig here and go to Jim's and then back here and then go to Heidi's, You game?
We'll wait to see about L&L and what Gwen comes up with.

Kingston, WA

sounds great I have you all pencilled in . That doesn't look right Heidi

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

CattleDogs- The Tacoma show was Jan 30-Feb 4, we missed it. See http://www.otshows.com/THS/ths.htm for clarity.

All- little tidbits like this are ok to send to me to post. If I start gettng too many tidbits, or too many at one time, I will get you an account that lets you edit the calendar yourself.

I just got the Cold Springs Garden Nursery flier, and see they have posted the days they will be open this year. Those will go up on the calendar soon.

I also will honor requests to put their own announcements up on the calendar if you have a good excuse.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

We're talking April 27th, right, for the visit to Jim's & Heidi's? I got a wee bit confused (not hard to do) when we talked about March 23rd being Easter, but then jumped right to the 27th (and not saying a month).

Anyway, depending on how my DH is doing at that time, I sure would love to go if it's in April. Obviously I have to play that one by ear as at this point we haven't a clue as to when he will be strong enough for the next surgery.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I sure hope you can come, would loved to see you, or if you get to Lynnwood let me know.
Hugs

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Carole,
We would be thrilled to see you! It is scheduled for April 27th. Hugs, Rachel

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

It's on my calendar for sure - we can only hope that Steve is doing well enough at that time for me to go! He should have had the cancer surgery by then so it's hard to say how he will be doing.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I'll start a petition for him to be doing great. Who will sign!!

Kingston, WA

I'll sign in. We had a great time last year carole. Hope he is doing better. Heidi

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Here is my e-signature! rrrrrrrachel!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I love it - how could he possibly NOT be well enough for me to be gone with all this positive stuff going on??? If his surgery is relatively soon, I've a good chance of making it! I had such fun last time and do so love the plants I bought - I'd be terribly upset if I had to miss it (let alone, miss seeing everyone again!!!). And the chance to see Jim's place and more of his creative endeavors!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm signing
MMMMary

I'm signing it, too!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

honestly - it's working already . . . he is better than I've seen him since around Christmas!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Wahoooooo!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

We're good, Hay

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

it's those lovely green thumbs - and it must be a green petition, I'm thinking, signed by green fingers.

Steve is dozing now, but he was awake most of the day and we were out and about for a bit. He admitted the sun helped (now for Steve to admit that this is a real issue is unheard of!).

Personally, I had several hours in the dirt. I feel like a new woman.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

LOVE IT, LOVE IT
MORE MORE

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

i'm adding my geen thumbprint to the petition. This week of sun has got to be good for lifting the spirits, and that can only help Steve heal from his surgery.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

God is signing Steve's petition and me too. Go Steve! Get excited about the battle ahead. and behind.

Sofer, you are the best man ever!
Murmur, bet Steve will be admitting a lot of things before long. Maybe he'll see this as an opportunity to really enjoy the rest of life.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

It's been several up and down days - a real roller coaster ride. The BIG surgery is tentatively scheduled for March 26th. So we'll see how things are going when we get closer to the April visit to Dragonfly. I do so want to go!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Murmur, I would like to add my green thumb and mounds of good wishes.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I am lovin' all these green thumbs!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Let me see . . . I'll bet these people would sign:

Al Gore
Michael J. Fox
Steve Largent
Steve's sons
Your brother
Steve's doctors
Dan Rather
Bill Gates
All the people you both regularly see at the grocery store
The people you used to work with

Who else?

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Hmmmmmm . . . I like this . . . my parents (they might not "get" the green thumb thing, but if they thought it would help Steve, they'd do it!), my daughters, my grandchildren, my cousins (and their children and grandchildren!), my sister-in-law, my nephews, my four friends from high school that I'm still in touch with . . . this gets better and better!

(But Steve Largent? Dan Rather? Bill Gates? I'm thinkin' Al Gore and Michael J. Fox just might, but the other three???!!! LOL!!!)

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

You know, if we asked, they'd love to help. They just don't know the petition is circulating . . . I'm sure that's true of your next door neighbors and your grade school friends - and the people with brown thumbs - they can write, if they can't grow.

It's a lotta people who are/would be pulling for Steve to come through this with flying colors.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Love the concept - and on that delightful note, I think I'll see if I can get some sleep!!!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Hope you get a good night's rest, Murmur

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Analog - are you still maintaining the PNW events calendar?
The link you posted (post# 4503824) brings up a calendar that has the same information on it that I originally posted, prior to the tweaking and correcting (of times & directions) I was going to do.
As an example, Rachie's work party shows as being on both March 8th & 9th. That info was put on prior to her knowing for certain which day (now the 8th).
Also, the Green elephant Plant swap (for today) is not there, nor is the trip to Dragonfly Gardens on April 27th.
If you are too busy, that is certainly understandable, but please let me or someone else know.
Thanks!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Good to meet you today, AnalogDog. Always so nice to put a face with a name.

So I was thinking today the same thing, Kate, that we do need to get going on the calendar. I'm not sure where we ended up. Analog, you were going to maintain it; that's why you took it over. Is that right or am I making a wrong assumption somewhere? We should target a date to get all our events in. That way, we can get an update schedule going and let everybody know (other forums might want to know about the calendar in case members are out here visiting) that they can rely on it for event coordination.

Kate, if I'm wrong and AnalogDog can't do the calendar, are you still up for maintaining it? I can help, although it seems to me that it's least complicated if the same person owns the calendar and updates it. At least after we get the initial events in.

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

Whoa, Whoa down!

I am glad to maintain the calendar. I can't however read every post, and screen every conversation for the calendar. That is why I am allowing anybody who wants access to the calendar for updating and fixing purposes.

I have seen no updates sent to me by DMail, posted in this forum, or sent to me by email except for off thread posts, and you all. Consequently I am feeling pretty good about my role. Now, if you all would like to assist entering calendar items, I would love to have the help.

As to the GE swap, I see it on the calendar, does it not show up on the public calendar?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Thank you, AnalogDog, for your help to Katye in changing whatever you did about her calendar. That's greatly appreciated.

It was my thought, going forward, that we would have one person (first Katye, then you) who was going to own the calendar and add events to that calendar as people brought them up on this list. Is that what you thought?

If not, are you proposing that you add events to the calendar, but only as people d-mail you, rather than listing them on the thread?

Or, if not that, can anyone other than the calendar owner add events to the calendar? I would say we don't want to go that direction as it will be unwieldy. Most of us won't know how to use the calendar and it will take as much time to explain or troubleshoot it as to do it for someone who knows how.

It's a good idea to revisit this as it sounds like we each might have gone away with different ideas about how the calendar was going to work. Any other input out there?

Where we are now:

The last time I looked, I saw a bunch of dates that said "busy". I don't know what that means. And I don't think the dates that Rachel put up on the top of this thread were on there. We need to make sure we get Rachel's work party next week on Saturday on there (I think right now it says that it's two day). We need to make sure we get the Dragonfly trip on there. We need to make sure we get the trip to Hosta Jim's on there, etc.

We keep scheduling more and more events and as we do that the task of getting them on the calendar is going to get bigger and bigger. IMHO, we need to make sure that we're all clear about the who, how, where, when and what of it all and get it up to date quickly.

Anybody else? Katye, what was your thought - I know that you had originally come up with the concept, talked to the DG Amin, and volunteered to set it up? Any ideas on how it should be run?

Thanks all!!
