That was my second favorite.
Another Quote
I think I like the name "emily compost" better than any of the quotes!
I agree Sue. Great name.
I like it, too. It reminds me of my name for our compost bins: Amazing Waste.
Love "Amazing Waste"! Says it all.
Another quotation:
"You should have seen them LAST week"! (anonymous.)
(quoted by all gardeners at one time of another when someone compliments your roses, dahlias, tulips. . . whatever is in bloom.)
Speaking of waste.
I was told if I put my leaves in a black plastic bag with holes in the bottom, left it out all winter, I would have beautiful compost in the spring. Those bags sem pretty light to me. I don't think it worked.
Someone point me at a "compost thread" if this is too much of an intrusion.
I've used that technique, Jo Ann. However, it makes leaf mold, not compost, and it takes longer than the winter. Usually about one full year.
I'm gonna forget it. I have a big black plastic bin that has been cookin since August and just dug out some beautiful stuff. Can I add the leaves to the bin?
Sure.

You're welcome. And glad to meet you Jo Ann!
From my "famous" Gardener's Bed Book: "Bring Out Your Dead!"
"You may also know the practised gardener by the fact that he has no illusions about the casualties of winter. He goes along his borders, as once on a day in the plague times of London, the drivers of the death-carts used to pass, shouting, 'Bring out your dead!' He knows that he will have some casualties.
The beginning gardener has a notion that, by the kindly favoritism of Nature, his garden will be skipped. Wouldn't it be pleasant if, like the Hebrews of old, we could mark the lintels of our gardens so that the Angel of Winter Death would pass over them! Alas, that age of miracles is gone! To amateur and practised gardener alike, Spring reveals her casualties."
Very funny Sue!
To amateur and practised gardener alike, Spring reveals her casualties."
I know, Sue--the fact that I take such casualties personally marks me as the amateur gardener that I AM!
Have to remind myself that some newly-opened up space in the garden isn't the WORST thing!
I'm not exactly a beginner but I am overly optimistic and HOPE everything will make it, EXCEPT the weeds and bugs! LOL
