Found this while poking around

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

sometimes but without a bloom
and sometimes they do not come up at all the next year
which is were the stories of killing them comes from
decapitating trilliums is one of the methods of propagating them
they often make pups/offsets if it happens at the right time
decapitation has been one of the recent topics on the Trillium list

Thanks for the pix! Now I know what to watch for with my new babies if they decide to actually come up this year. I'm guessing that it's warmer there than here? What kinds of temps are you having down there?

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

a cpl of days in the 30's but mostly in the 40's & 50's with lots of rain :-)
this is the time of the year when Trillium are the most delicate, so watch where you walk
a good reason to mark where they are come spring
i think i will buy another cpl dozen cages this year :-)

Yep, warmer than here, sigh. OK, that means I should have a couple of weeks to go yet, at the earliest. :)

Dick - I'm so jealous. I'll bet I'm 6-8 weeks from that, if I'm lucky . . .

Thanks for giving us a picture of spring. I think, though, that I'll go out and set up a tomato cage where my only trillium has been to protect it from the dogs.
