Sorry I'm late starting the new thread. I am friends again with our state bird, the Northern Mockingbird. Pell had asked me to start the next thread and I didn't have a single decent pic that I hadn't already posted. So I went back to Brushy Creek with my camera.
I went to take the first pic, and the battery was dead on my better camera. It was getting dark soon, so I decided to use my little snapshot camera instead of running off to buy batteries. I was having a hard time finding a bird close enough to get a good shot without much zoom, when this beautiful guy posed so nicely for me at the top of the tree.
Here's where we came from:

A little weak sun today but not for long, I managed to get one of the Chaffinch, it always looks to be in deep thought.
Congratulations Rose!
Very good indiana!
Which recipe did you use?
We kinda modified a basic recipe, because I'm always adding different spices, ingredients when I cook for myself, and I'd see things and think "oh, the birds will like this." LOL!! This is what we did:
1 cup lard
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 cup quick oats
1 cup corn meal
raisins
pecan chips
slivered almonds
thistle
a little songbird food
That was about it. Hope we did it right!!
Sounds great!
When I got up this morning(late, being the first of my two days off) I looked out and saw finches everywhere. I had noticed yesterday that some kind of flock of birds had come through and eaten all the feed. I restocked last night. The special things for the finches had never been used as far as I know. The first think I noticed was the finch sock.
Frank, I think the GF's were slow heading south this year. My thistle feeder was also very lonely until almost exactly 2 weeks ago. Then one day....there they were. Now we know how fast they move. 2 weeks from SC to MS. :)
Deb
LOL, your Flicker really gets around Depsi!
Great pics everyone!
Thanks for starting the new thread...
But, please--I'd like to see Rita's saw-whet owl pic from the old thread again, Rita?!
Maybe a bit bigger? I'm looking for a saw-whet around our house--would love to have one...Is it nesting near your home?... thanks. t.
