Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I am still a Tropicaholic and need a fix! We came from here:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/798809/

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I'm here, but need to go down and put some wood in the fire. I getting coooollllddddd!

Then I will come and tell you about my new kitties.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Oh new kitties, how sweet!
I wish we had wood heat because I am freezing!!!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Okay, here is one more to speed you all on your way...make sure to wear padded clothing...the post office gorillas can get mighty playful! No, unfortunately the Ixora are mostly non fragrant, but they are dependable ever bloomers, so I always have some color in the garden. Here is my last pic today...my most conceited bougainvilla...she thinks she is just too gorgeous for words, hear's waaay too many people admiring her, and has become just impossible to live with!

LOL. The only tropical I have right now is a carolina jasmine and she is desperate to be outside.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Shari, now I am kicking myself royally for not picking the ones up that Lowe's had for a buck a piece! Crying here! LOL

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Pepper, if a Carolina Jasmine is considered a Tropical I will let you know if mine survives because it is OUTSIDE! LOL

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

LOL. It is one that is hardy to zone 7 or something like that. It is in a pot. As soon as it warms up probably in March it will be outside. Then it can climb all over the deck railings behing the irises. And make the house smell good. I just need to get that hardy gardenia now. And figure out where to put it.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

What is the difference between the Carolina Jamine and say Pikake? Anyone know?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL Well, mine was already climbing the deck and I wasn't about to dig it up, pot it, and bring it in! LOL I just mulched it and threw on a bunch of leaves and hoping for the best!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Never heard of Pikake?

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Sorry, Pikake is the island name for Jasminium Sambac. Exquisitly fragranced small white flowers, used in leis. The plants are very pretty, but very tempermental...require a lot of TLC.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I bought mine in a big pot so I kept it there and brought it in. I may move the gravel and weed barrier a bit this spring and put it there in the ground anyways. It is in a very protected area so can't hurt I guess.

Shari, I have no clue. I just know there are several varaties of jasmine and I have 2. The carolina and the gessamine jessamine kind. That one is my yellow Margarita and is outside. It is a young plant so I am hoping it makes it.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Mine has small star shaped flowers on it and is fragrant.. I just water it alot and it is happy.

Here's a pic.

If you are meaning a Star Jasmine, the house across the street has one and it comes back BEAUTIFULLY ever year and smells WONDERFUL!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I may have to plant it then. I will make sure to mulch it really good and leave holes for the cats.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Hey I did not know Star Jasmine is hardy . I have one that is barely hanging on I will plant in the ground come Spring.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Lowe's had put a huge sign next to their Star Jasmine that said "NOT HARDY". I told them that they are wrong because of the one next door and they thought I was nuts! I am also kicking myself for not buying that one when it was 75% off! I didn't have a green house at the time and it was already too cold to put it in the ground!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Tammy what would we do without you? lol. None of us would have known it was hardy if you hadn't told us you have it outside.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Now the Carolina I don't know about yet! LOL The Star is at the neighbors house across the street, but always comes back. I tried to take a cutting of it, but it died! :(

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

They are pretty much the same. That's just one of the names for it.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

DD took a cutting of her neighbor's large star jasmine, and her cutting is already blooming! I don't know about hardiness, since we don't get cold...but it is sure lovely! And the fragrance! Good luck to all you jasmine lovers!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I read in PF that it is hardy to zone 5. A member has one in Omaha.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I WILL have one this year, though! They smell so wonderful and are constant bloomers here!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

COOL! I just have to figure out where to put more vines! HA HA HA

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I will try to get you a cutting of the yellow one too if it gets big enough.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I know, I don't have anymore room now. I have room for a blueberry to grow with my wild grapes and that is it. I'm all vined out.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Can they be planted in with another Jasmine and not smother the other one out? I would love ANY flower that smells good, thanks Pepper!!!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I don't know. Maybe if you put mulch around the bases they should be ok. You would have to do that with the yellow one anyways for the first year or two cause they are tenderly hardy. Need some protection. But if you mulch around them that would keep them separated there and where they intertwine you might have to thin them out some once in awhile maybe.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I would be willing to do all that if it would allow more places to put vines! LOL I do have one end of the deck that doesn't have anything, YET! HA HA HA

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Just got here Tammy. I have your star jasmines too, Pepper. They are supposed to be hardy and evergreen.
Goodnite ladies!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Everyone has them but me, now I am pouting! HA HA HA Oh, that's right, I have two Jasmines! LOL Pink and Carolina! :)
Night, again, Jaye! Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I have the start Jasmine and it is hardy.

Your Boug is so beautiful, I love it.

Here is the first of the kitty pics. 4 were born Tues to the brown, black faced moma the other 4 were born to the gray striped face mama, They share them all.
