"One person is watching this tab" - Blog

Can I figure out who it is? I'm not bothered that someone is reading it - that's why it's not marked private... I'm just curious who's peeking. :)

Hmmm, now where is that shown? In your My Info page somewhere? Tab?? I looked at my tags, is that what you mean? and don't see even where someone can mark it as 'watch' unless it's a normal thread being 'watched' anyways.
Do you mean the Diary?
Maybe I'll just stay out as I have no idea what the post means I guess. LOL

I didn't even know we could "watch" someone's diary! I have never set up a diary or journal but if you can mark it "private" then whoever it is shouldn't be able to access it any longer.

Yeah, I think she mean the Diary as it's the only think you can click on to watch, Journal doesn't have that option. If you type it and don't set it to private, anyone can read it.
And I highly doubt you would ever be able to know who is doing the watching. Just think of the problems that would create.

There's no way to know who it is, if it bothers you for someone to be watching it then you can always mark it private. Personally, I take it as a complement when I see someone's watching one of mine!

I'm kinda with AngelSong - I don't mind that someone is reading my blog (if I did, I'd mark it private), but it would be nice to know who ;o)

I think I would be curious too ... and kinda like someone was stalking. It would be a compliment but I would wonder why one person was watching continuously.

I am assuming there are diaries as well as journals that members can set up? What is the difference? I'm old ... a diary to me is somewhere you write your personal feelings on a daily basis ... I'm thinking of the diary with the little key I had as a pre-teen! (I told you I was old!) I tried starting a plant journal when I first joined DG but had so much trouble trying to figure it out, I just gave up!
I guess I kinda think backwards, I would have thought the diary would be the one to be private accessible only to the owner, and the journal would be what you could mark public or private.

It's a shame you can't find out who it is "watching" your diary. Maybe someone marked it to watch by mistake and doesn't even know they are watching it?

Could you put in an entry that asks for anyone watching to ID themselves? If they're friends who are interested, they'll let you know, and if no-one responds, well, that tells you something too.

I think the diary is an open-formatted sort of write-your-feelings/thoughts/plans kind of thing, and the journal is more structured specifically for keeping track of plants and cultivars. All those cool links to PlantFiles and tradelists and such...

Diaries & journals can both be either public or private. Journals you have to make the whole thing public or private, and diaries you can choose to make individual entries public or private (so you could have some of each).

I think if someone's watching your diary, it's probably either they're growing a plant that you're growing and want to see if you have any interesting tips that could help them. Or maybe they like your design for a particular area of your yard, and are hoping that you'll continue to post new pics that they can use for inspiration. Or maybe there's one thing in that tab--maybe a link to an interesting web page, or an interesting plant, or a helpful tip that they want to remember, so they decided to watch that tab so they could find that info/picture/link/whatever again without having to dig through everyone's diaries. Or maybe at one point they had an interest and aren't really paying attention anymore, but forgot to turn the watching feature off.

It's the Blog, whatever else ya'll call it (or used to) that the entry comes up - It's on the right side, under some of the "entry" features.

I'm not putting things in there I don't want someone seeing... and I know why it's happening...

I think it would be nice to be able to see who's doing it..

I *love* to read other's blogs/diaries and "watch" quite a few of them. Sometimes I dmail the blogger on entries to comment, encourage, compliment, etc. And while, ecrane, you may be right on why some people read others' blogs, I read them for the entertainment value. I learn alot, see humanity at it's basic level. There's a lot of joy in seeing someone be thrilled about seeing a plant flower or veggie bear from a seed they started. I also like just hearing about people's daily routines....makes me feel so much more "normal" to realize we really are all very much the same.

Terry - I read yours everyday, but don't have it marked as "watched". :-) Good luck on the seed-sowing next week!

Honestly, the blogs are now one of my favorite DG pastimes....we have some *VERY* talented writers out there! And it's great to read some of the southern hemisphere blogs as they are in the middle of summer and I'm enjoying reading about their garden progress this year.

There's one DG'er from Louisiana that has such a way with words and expressing her thoughts and feelings...it's just beautiful. Another Californian that religiously blogs every day and it's like I know her as a neighbor next door. She's extremely talented in crafts and gardening and hers is my favorite blog. And we have an Iowan that is one heck of a poet!

With all that said, I, too, wish I knew who was watching my blog. However, I've learned to mark private the entries that are a bit more revealing than I'd care to be publicly. :-)

Well thanks langbr for opening up my eyes to a feature I barely glanced at! Now I will have to go seek out some of these wonderful diaries you decsribe.

I,too am starting to read the Blogs and I did enjoy your progress with Chewie, Angelsong. I don't have it marked to watch, but will check in now and then to see what is happening with you as long as you don't mind.

If you know why it is happening,could you share why? I thought I might start a Blog sometime,but I don't feel comfortable about it at this time.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood what you meant.

I think I know why the blog is being watched, is what I meant. I'm not putting private stuff in there, and I believe equine-enthusiasts are watching it to "keep up"...

posyblossom--if you want a blog but don't feel comfortable sharing it, just mark each entry private. Then you're the only one who can see it. If you decide later that you want to share some entries with other people, you can choose to make some individual entries public.
