I think I'll make a list of the ones you're showing. They are beautiful. Eleanor
Clematis, if you could pick just 2 what would they be?
The old tried and true along with the new ones would be a nice combination. They are wonderful with roses but watch the pruning classes for each variety.
Wow we have a lot of great photo's of clematis on this thread!!! It is just amazing to see how you gardeners all work......fabulous!!!
I'm with Celeste here in Heaven!!! Thank you so much for the wonderful Clematis photos!!
Harper
Do you have any, Harper?
Beautiful pics Pirl, and Victor!
Thanks. I'll try to dig up a few more when I can.
It's a heaven or he!! kinda thread.....was looking for 2, but want 20 now!
I found two more outside at the base of Jackmanii by the compost piles. I had forgotten all about them! Just another Ernest Markham and the lovely Miss Bateman.
What were they doing together??
That's beautiful, Louise. HF is another one that doesn't like me.
Interesting question, Victor. I'll have to keep an eye on the area and see if any new arrivals pop up.
Thanks, HF was a bigger plant when I purchased it. maybe a 2 gal pot. My unWilling Will was a little guy and petered out.
HF and Will were both wimps and both petered out. From now on it's Debbie's Silver Star clematises for me.
I am trying to get non-purple shades from now on. Purple is to clematis what yellow is to DL's.
True! For white I love the look of Languinosa Candida. I love Henryi, too, but think you have that one. Did you want a secondary color in the clematis.
Huldine is a good white too. I am gravitating toward pinks, deep reds/maroons and light blues.
I love Arctic Queen for a white.
In 2006 I planted three pink ones to wander through hydrangea Tardiva. None have bloomed yet, which is fine with me. Texenis Duchess of Albany, Hagley Hybrid and the old reliable I forgot. Aha, City of Lyon is the third one.
Rosemoor is a very pretty deep red. I'm looking for more blooms this year hopefully.
Does anyone have any of the Evison clematis that he introduced two years ago that are supposed to be ideal for hanging baskets? The name of yours, Louise, sounds like one of them.
Not sure on that, but it was intoduced in 2004 and is only listed at 2 meters. It's part of the "Gardini" group. I believe Bourbon is is one of the smaller clems that are great in containers. ShirleyMD put up a pic of Bourbon on the clematis forum that is stunning. Saw her pic and hit the buy button.
Yes, they were all named after famous gardens! Thanks for the reminder. I'll go look at Shirley's photo tomorrow. She's a grand fan of clem's.
Yes, Arlene. I have many Clematises. When I first moved in 3 years ago, I planted Jackmanii, The President, Niobe, Sweet Autumn and one unknown. The Sweet Autumn needs pruning, oh and the Jackmanii. Niobe is coming along slower. Last year I ordered more from a co-op I was in. The starts were small, but all grew well over the summer. We'll see what they look like come springtime thaw. They were: Asao, Ernest Markham, Special Occasion, Nelly Moser, Royalty, Multi-blue, Haku Ookan, Dawn, Blue Angel and Venosa Violacea.

I have planted 7 clematis last year... I am just praying they will come back!!!!I am totally afraid of pruning them so I will not do it... unless Laura comes to the rescue....
I had Sweet Autumn at my old house. It was one of those end of the year without a tag sales. My mistake. That thing grew about 40' tall and just as wide every year. I had to keep pruning it back constantly because it was choking everything else out. It was a beautiful blanket of tiny blooms but if you are considering it make sure to put it where it has LOTS of room!! You all grow such lovely flowers! How far back does everyone prune every year and when??
I don't grow Sweet Autumn, bear. Does yours re-seed much?
Great photos, Victor and WC. Victor, where did you buy 'Another'? (Just teasing)
Kassia - each clematis belongs to one of three main pruning groups but, as always, there are exceptions. The clematis forum probably has, or should have, a master list.
Great photo's! Now how do I ask for Post #4417371 & Post #4416936 at the greenhouse? "Do you have "another'?
