Spring 2008 order to David Liddle

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

You made the cut Marcy!!!!! I'm hoping that D.L. will have his 08"catalog ready by the end of the month. If i'm not mistaken I believe it was Jan 29th that it came out last year.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Marcy, that's a great idea, a what I want list and then a what I can afford list!!!! I have been making out my list since at least October or November of last year and you don't even want to know how many pieces of paper i've used!!!!

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

I wish I could take a picture of my "David Liddle order scrap paper", because I do exactly what you do Marcy! I first make a full list of what I want from his catalogue, and then I research the hoyas on the list to try and narrow them down. Once I have it narrowed down with many "cross-outs", it's STILL too much. So I then put an asterisk next to the defnites, and the word "NEXT" next to the ones I will order next year!

LOL ... sounds like a lot of us think alike with our "want/wish lists"! I just threw away about a half dozen little post it notes where I had written down names of hoyas to read up on! I still have a very long wish list but that's always going to be, with all kinds of plants ... I mark one off and add another to the list!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Just sent mine in: samoensis, davidcummingii, magnifica, onychoides, vitellinoides, and pimenteliana. Doing the happy dance!

(Zone 1)

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ Happy Dancin right along with you! ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

I can see how easy it is to become addicted to these plants!

Lin, the pubicalyx does fine in the heat. I have one (don't know exactly which one it is yet as it hasn't bloomed). Last year I kept it in the shade and it did quite well in the Texas heat. We did have a humid year last year, so that could have something to do with it. It did grow actively, although not nearly as much as it has now that I have brought it inside in the cool. Now it is taking over my whole window.

I ordered: motoskei, pottsii, memoria, magnifica, purpureo-fusca, and pubicalyx Royal Hawaiian Purple.

(Zone 1)

Woohoo ... I got a confirmation e-mail from D. Liddle and and attachment with the 2008 catalog! Uh oh ... I may be in trouble!

:)

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Mee, tooooo!

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Can one of you send me the 2008 catalog? I placed my order a while ago and David Liddle didn't have it ready at that time, so I didn't get it with my confirmation. If anyone is willing to send it to my email, it's gabro14@hotmail.com
Thanks!

Gabi

(Zone 1)

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks for sending it, Lin.

I don't know whether I'm happy or sad that one of the cuttings I had on the order is not in the new catalogue! I mean, it's a cutting that I lost from last year's order because it's so darn hard to root (H. waymaniae)....so maybe it's better off that it's not available!

All my other cuttings are available...yay!

For those of you that have already sent in your order but find that 1 or more hoyas that you ordered aren't in the new catalogue, you may still get lucky. Sometimes David Liddle will not have enough available to sell in large quantities, but if you happen to be the only one (or one of a few people) with that request, he might be able to send it. Last year I really wanted to order H. subcalva, but it was "out of stock". So I put a little note in the bottom of my order to him saying that if he happened to have it available by the time he ships the order, I'd love to have it. Well, I was thrilled to find it in my bag!

Gabi

(Zone 1)

You should ask David in your e-mail when you place your order! He e-mailed me saying if there was something I was looking for not on the list to ask, that he might have it!

I had already placed my order from the 2007 catalog and just told him if anything was out of stock I welcomed them to substitute anything of equal value that he felt was good for the novice grower! I did look through the current catalog and found a couple that look interesting but am trying real hard :) to just stick with the 6 since I am so new to these things! I really want to make sure I can root these before ordering any more ... but, knowing me I will probably end up adding to my current order. When's that deadline??

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

Thanks - I will put my order in tomorrow. I have been putting it off thinking I'd get the 2008 catalog.

Carnegie, PA

I have to type here because I have problems logging into Epiforums on more than one computer at a time for some reason.
I already sent in my order, I'm sooo excited. Here's what I ordered:
-variegated macrophylla
-purpureo-fusca
-pauciflora
-pentaphlebia
-hellwigiana
-clandestina
-polystachya

And I'm thinking of adding Magnifica to the list. I had it there originally, then talked myself out of it. After reading everyone's praises over at Epiforums about this one, I want it for sure now! I was in on the last fall order and all of my cuttings rooted within a few weeks. They are all still doing so good. He sends such healthy cuttings. I just don't know where the heck I'm going to put these new ones!
Thanks so much David for setting this all up!

Jen

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

I ordered the following:
Acuta
Aldrichii-Christams Is
Purpurea-fusca
Serpens
Magnifica
Samoensis
I also requested Imperialis Rauschii and Onychoides if they are available, they are from the '07 catalog.

I CAN NOT wait!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Jen,
I've been eye balling my rooms all morning for potential spots for the cuttings I ordered, too. I ordered last fall, too and I've had my hoya eyes on in every plant store I go to, but nothing's around here. My DL cuttings are all thriving but I lost one (cumingiana). Here's my new order:
1 IML 0192 samoensis
1 IML 0892 davidcummingii
1 IML 0152 magnifica
1 IML 0559 onychoides (if available)
1 IML 0358 vitellinoides
1 IML 1600 cagayanensis
1 IML 1117 flavescens
I'm so excited!!!!

Last evening it came to my attention that the lady CB was informing everyone who has the current issue of David Liddle's 2008 catalog, indeed had a watered down version of it.

According to what I personally read on her website Mr. Liddle supposedly just threw a catalog out at those of us who were going in on this order and inquiring about his new catalog ,just to get us off of his back or so she made it sound.

She was also informing those who wished to get the COMPLETE edition the email her personally. Well if there was a more complete version why wouldn't I just email David LIddle myself and ask for one. So that's what I did.

Turns out for those of you who may be wondering, there is another more complete edition out than the one that we originally received. More complete by having a grand total of only 4 yes I said FOUR more hoyas in the unidentified listing.

I personally thought by her choice of words in regards to this, that she would have us believe that David had added a hundred or so new hoyas to the list. Here's what changed. The following have been added to the list.

iml 0392 dark green white flecked slightly lacunose leaf 15 dull yellow flowers reflexed corona $7

iml 0438 similar to above smaller flowers dull white more red on corona

iml 0557 Sabah highly perfumed 7mm red flowers leathery white speckled leaf $7

iml 1212 Sarawak large lacunose leaves red flowers $7

There you have it. Add those 4 hoyas to your existing list and you'll have the COMPLETE version of David Liddle's 2008 catalog.

Pittsburgh, PA

Isn't that CB woman a pleasure? I honestly don't know how enough people put up with her to maintain her website...anyhow, thanks so much for watching out for us and making sure we've got all the information we need...unlike CB, you really ARE a pleasure :- )

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Well, I'm glad I don't even know about her. As a newbie hoya maniac, I need less confusion, not more! :)

Well, I finally decided to read the (GREAT) stickies and found out more about this lady.

Unfortunately, she may just be one of the most knowledgeable Hoya experts out there, but what a disposition! I'll never sign up to post on her site, she scares me too much.

Doug

(Zone 1)

I have no idea who she is ... I thought y'all were talking about someone here on DG.

When I placed my order I ordered from the 2007 catalog and D. Liddle e-mailed my confirmation of order and attached a tentative copy of the 2008 and told me if there was anything I didn't see in either catalog to ask that he might have it available. I am so new to the Hoya plants that if it's not in the catalog I wouldn't know to ask about it. LOL. I am happy with what I ordered but may end up adding to it, since I saw a couple of things in the new catalog that looked interesting.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Epiforum chat was fun and wild. I'm thinking of getting a pubicalyx. I like Red Buttons and the pink one. Which is best? Only want one. Foliage really turns red on RB??

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I have both but if I had to make the choice today i'd say go with red buttons or RRoyal Hawaiian purple if you don't already have it. The new foliage on RHP is so purple red that it almost looks black as do the flowers.

I agree the live chat was fun and quit interesting since it was my very first time doing it. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

Darn...I missed it again. I keep forgetting about it on Fri. It is at a time I am usually here too, so I will mark my calendar & try next time for sure.
Believe it or not, I am just finishing up on my order. Hope he still has what I want. It was soooo hard this time for some reason. My want list just didn't want to shrink no matter how hard I tried to keep it simple. I am such a glutton when it comes to these plants.
Well...I best go mail it off to him. Thanks again for organizing this.

Yes, loved the live chat!

Boojum,
I'd also go with Red Buttons or Royal Hawaiian Purple. Yes, RB really does have purple/red leaves (when they are new). Here's a pic of my Red Buttons:

And this is how red the leaves can get with a lot of light (the purple ones turned really red when I put it outside over the Summer in full morning sun):

Oh Drat ... I missed the chat. Got home a little after 9, logged on to chat and the phone rang and I was on the phone with my sister for a couple of hours! My youngest sister and I love to talk!

Gabro: that RB is stunning! I don't remember what I ordered, but I'm loving the coloration on those leaves - I probably should add to my order. Has there been a cut off date set yet?

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Lin,

I wondered what happened to you. I saw that you logged on and then nothing. That explains it.

Gabi, nice looking Hoya!!

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Lin,
There hasn't been an official date made yet (as far as I know), but I think you have till the end of Feb.

Thanks Doug :)

Gabi

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Gabi, that plant is to die for! Who needs flowers! Wishlist!
BTW, where do people get those nice pot trellises anyway? I am being an optimist and betting that someday hopefully soon, I'll need them. :)

Well I bought 8 medium sized green hanging pots today. I know I'm months early but gotta be prepared-I was a girl scout after all. I also bought lava rock, orchid bark and I already had perlite and potting soil. That's the mix I've used before. With very very little potting soil. What medium do others use?

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

There's a number of people that I haven't heard from in regards to them getting their orders in to David Liddle as part of my group order. There are at least 2 other orders that I know of already in progress besides ours. Chances are getting slim for people to get what they want at this point in the game so for anyone who hasn't submitted an order yet and you wish to do so.it's gonna be slim pickins' soon!!!!

I need to begin getting things ready on my end so I can get the hoyas shipped back out to you all in a timely manner, so I need to hear from everyone who signed up on my list so I have some idea of who's still in this. Just drop me a d-mail saying "order submitted" so I can get a box ready with your name on it and not have to wait till the last minute.

Thanks
David
