Spring 2008 order to David Liddle

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I along with some help from Sara will be hosting an order to David Liddle. I have spoken with Mr. Liddle on the phone and he hopes to have his catalog available for us by the months end. We'll have Feb. and March to play with getting our orders together for an early to mid April delivery.

The list to sign up for this hoya consignment is located on the epiforums website and can be accessed at the following link.http://www.epiforums.com/

The instruction page for how to order and all that good stuff will be posted on that site.

I will be ordering. Ahhhh.....Spring Fever.
Marcy

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Count me in!!! I'm headed for that site.....

Karen

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

I would love to join in....but it makes no sense to have the cuttings go all the way to NC and then back here to the middle of the ocean!!!!

Guess I will have to have an order all by my lonesome!

Carol

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Oh, ok, well I suppose that would make more sense for you Carol. Do you think it would make a huge difference in how well they would do for you, if the cuttings went to South Carolina before going on to you?

When are you off to Sabah Carol? I am just tooooo jealous!

Can we post over there if we are not a member of that site? Or do we then sign up here?

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

You need to join to post. But it's a great site and it's free.

Gabi

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

There are only 4 spots left open for this consignment. anyone wishing to take part in it needs to let me know asap.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I said this on epiforums, but I would like to participate but I am concerned about when the ship date will be since it's cold till mid May in Western Massachusetts. Please let me know. I was very pleased with my last order from DL last year.

(Zone 1)

I know it's not possible to give an exact amount but can you give me a general idea of what the extra costs would be per person (for shipping and other expenses) besides the cost of the cuttings?

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I looked at my old invoice from last year in September and I paid $5.10 for 5 cuttings for shipping and phyto from Australia plus the priority box ($8.?) from the states to my house. (I thought this was a deal considering I'm paying $24 for shipping from CA for 3 orchids this April!)

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Lin,
I think the price of phyto depends on how many people join and how many cuttings are ordered (in total by all participants). From last year's order, I think it came out to be around $1.50 per cutting. That's why we do a group order - to cut down on the phyto and shipping expenses from David Liddle (we basically split those costs). Then there is the $8.95 cost for shipping from David Elliott to you. I think that covers all the "extra" expenses (aside from the cuttings you buy).

Gabi

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Ok, here's what Sara wrote on Epiforums about the phyto and shipping charges - but keep in mind this does not include the money we need to send to David Elliott (Dmichael) so that he can ship the individual boxes to us.

"Regarding Phyto and shipping from Australia to the US - The whole point of making the order a "group order" is to make this as inexpensive as possible. The total amount of the shipping and phyto from Australia is divided by the total number of cuttings ordered by our group."
"Sooooo.... if for instance, the total number of cuttings ordered were 100, and the total amount of shipping and phyto from Australia was $100.00, then each person in the group order would pay $1.00 per cutting. This is only an example, it is NOT the cost or the total number of cuttings, that is as of yet undetermined. Make sense? Those charges will be added on to the invoice that you receive from David Liddle, and are usually around $1 plus change."

(Zone 1)

Just got home from a Basketball game and thought I would check back in!

Boonjum & Gabi: Thanks so much for your quick response to my question! Sounds like a really good deal! I think I'd like to order a few cuttings! If there is no minimum order, will give it a try if I'm not too late. Will head over to the Epi forum and check!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Sorry it took me so long to chime in here. A very best friend (20 +) years had a birthday today and several of us went to dinner and then out to have a few drinks and i'm just now getting in.

Thanks for summing that all up Gabi!!!! The help is really appreciated!!

Lin,it's not too late for you to get on. I'll add your name to the list on Epiforums.

Booj, Lin's in so that only leaves 3 spots!!!!!!!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

If anyone who has joined the David Liddle order via this thread and you are also a member at Epiforums but use another user name on that site please let me know so your name doesn't get on the list twice.

I've added Lin to the list and another person from Epiforums has joined in so that now only leaves 2 open slots.

Thanks
David

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Aww heck, go ahead and add my name to the list. I wasn't going to order at first because I'm not completely confident with my rooting skills, but what is it going to hurt. Practice makes perfect huh. I'll add my name on the epiforums also.

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Boojum,

I would grab that last spot on the list if it is not too late. I was little concerned with the ship date as well, and I live in a colder zone than you do, but after looking at last year's spring order, I didn't find anyone who lost cuttings, because of cold weather. Sara lives in Montana, and if they made it to her ok, I would say that chances are they will make it to us alright. I am however hoping for as late a shipment date as possible.

Doug

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Doug,
Thanks for the reassurance. I'm always a nervous wreck about spring and fall shippings. And I had an orchid order get lost for 10 days this Xmas (priority mail-totally frozen-the seller kindly sent again) so I really have the willies this year! BTW, I am already on the epiforum list. I was the "other person" on the list.

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Boojum,

Glad to hear that you are on the list. Now we will keep our fingers crossed that both of our orders arrive safely.

Doug

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Fingers crossed and nail biting, Doug!

Turnerville, GA(Zone 7a)

Is it too late to sign up for the DL order? I'd really like to join if there still is a spot.
Sue M

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

I would love to order some ,too
If it is not too late

Sharon

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

We don't have to have our orders in until the end of Feb. right?

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

pdoyle,
David Liddle has not provided us with a cutoff date yet. I would say that if you have some idea of what you want and have IML numbers for those hoyas go ahead and send him a list of those. We have one month from the time we get the new catalog to revise our orders to our liking before David starts to process things for shipment.

I would encourage anyone who is taking part in this spring order to get some kind of list to him ASAP (it can be revised later) to insure that we are the first or at least close to being the first ones to get an order from him.

It's my understanding that groups from other countries also do group things like this with D.L. and I heard that the French almost wiped him out last year!!!! So get orders in as quickly as possible and change them later if you need/want to.

Now as for the last 2 people who posted above about getting in on the order!!!! My biggest fear when I agreed to host this consignment was that something like this would happen and i'd be forced to tell someone no for whatever reason. We (Sara,Eddie and myself) agreed to limit this to 30 people so I could manage it and not go bananas!!!! BUT!!! Since the 2 of you both asked within a short time of each other and no one else has asked to take part since late last night, i'll put both of your names on the list and we'll shut it off here with 31 participants.

Sharon and Sue you'll both have to go over to Epiforums.com to get the details on how and what to do for this order. It requires a membership and registration which is free.

Sorry but there are no more open spots available on this spring order . For anyone who missed out keep your eyes and ears open as there are usually anywhere from 2-3 spring orders going to D.L. each year and maybe someone else will be hosting one soon.

(Zone 1)

I will get my order in ... have been procrastinating and still looking at the catalog but can always add more later if I find something else that looks interesting!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I will send him my order ASAP.

(Zone 1)

Ok, I just e-mailed my order to David Liddle! I know mine is probably the smallest one, I only ordered 6 cuttings so will see how well I do with them and maybe next time I will order more!

Thanks so much for letting me get in on this one! I really look forward to the arrival of the cuttings In a couple of months and trying my hand at rooting them.

Ok, ya wanna know what I ordered? One of each of the following:

acuta, citrina, magnifica, memoria, pubicalyx Royal Hawaiian Purple and pimenteliana. Depending on the size I will probably be cutting them up and potting them in little 2 or 3" pots!

Turnerville, GA(Zone 7a)

Thanks for including me....I'm off to the epi forum now...
Sue

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Those are all good choices Lin. The cuttings that he usually sends are more than long enough to cut into multiple cuttings. I always cut mine into pieces when I receive them as I like the look of a larger fuller pot sooner rather than later!!! I have gotten as few as 3 but as many as 14 pieces out of a single vine that he sent depending on the variety and scarcity of the hoya.

Long Beach, CA

Hey...I never got the catalog. What happened here? Is my name on the list? I was going to order with this, but never heard anything about the catalog coming out.
Marcy

(Zone 1)

Oh my goodness ... you've gotten 14 pieces out of one cutting? I will be thrilled if I get 3 pieces from each cutting!
I'm really looking forward to receiving them and hope I will be able to root them all easily. I noticed the H. pubicalyx Royal Hawaiian Purple was listed as one for cool conditions ... I get confused trying to convert temp's from C to F but if that particular one won't like temp's above the high 70's I will just keep it inside. Most of my plants stay outside almost year round. We had a low of 39 last night so a lot of things got moved back inside once again ... but will go back out tomorrow - later in the week we are supposed to be back to mid/ high 70's daytime and mid 50's at night! It does get very hot here in the summer and I guess some Hoya don't like temps way up in the mid 90's.

(Zone 1)

Marcy: I used the 2007 catalog ... apparently the one for this year isn't out yet.

Long Beach, CA

Oh...OK....I'll hurry & get an order put together then. I got included on the list for the order, right David?
Marcy

(Zone 1)

Marcy, I did see your name on the list over on the epiforums website.

Long Beach, CA

Oh good. I'll get my order put together tonight. I already have a "hoya wish list" in my plant files....so this should be easy. What is NOT easy is reining myself in when it comes to these orders. The more I look at that catalog...the more I write down. Ha. What I usually have to do is make 2 lists. The first one with ALL I WANT to order, & then the second one.. with what I can AFFORD to order. Ha. (many get crossed out & marked "next time".
