College Station Spring RU-Sat. March 15, 2008-HEADCOUNT

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Hello everyone!

I know it may seem a bit early for some, but we would like to try and get a tentative head count for this year's spring roundup in College Station. We will be holding it at the Central Park pavilion: http://www.cstx.gov/home/index.asp?page=659 . This facility has ample parking right in front of the pavilion, kitchen and bathroom facilities on site, and a large number of picnic tables. It costs $200 to rent the facility with an additional $150 refundable deposit. We have had some gracious members already volunteer to help cover these expenses up front since the pavilion will need to be reserved in advance. These people would then be paid back the day of the roundup through individual contributions from members attending. We would ask a nominal contribution of $5 per member, and with 40 members in attendance this would cover the rental cost.

Here is a map to the pavilion: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=College+Station,+TX,+United+States+of+America&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title

Please post here if you are hoping to attend this year's roundup!

Thanks, Kim

Mom and I will be there (with dad in tow no doubt)!

Missouri City, TX

Count on the two of us. Anything needed besides some cash?

I could bring some of our "famous jalapeno potato salad".

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I will try to come, depending on the date.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

There will be 4 of us. The bunnies are hoping Aunt Anne is bringing her doggies again!

edited to say.. Oops! The doggies weren't AuntAnne's, were they? KaraE, maybe? I'm brain dead. Sorry!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I will put it on my calendar!! Thanks Kim!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks for getting this going, again, Kim! I've enrolled in the Texas Master Naturalist program this spring and it meets until noon on alternate Sat's (that's one of them - drat...). I won't be able to be there until about 1:00 - think folks will still be there?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I will because I probably won't get there till 12.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

When I go to the RU in CS, I will spend the night. I did that the first time and enjoyed it greatly. We went down early met some people for breakfast, then several of us went out to dinner that night and met the next morning for a nursery tour.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm sure we will still be hopping at lunchtime! Thanks for mentioning that Sheila....should we look into another Sun nursery tour then too? I am thinking perhaps Martha's like before or maybe the antique rose emporium?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok....right now that's approximately 11 members....who else wants to come? It's a lot of fun!!

Kyle, TX(Zone 8b)

bookworm28, the link you put up to this 'head count' thread doesn't work. Takes you right to the original thread, or did I do something wrong? I will go back and check again. Gene

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Nope I didn't bring dogs only dbf Bill, dogs wouldn't work so hard on my winter greenhouse. lol Do we want to start another thread for trades?

bookworm28, that's great about the Master Naturalist classes! I was in Class # 7, San Antonio area. I have a friend who always tells everyone about her friend the Master Naturalist. So...she's my friend the Master Gardener. Hoping DH and I will get to attend the RU...start those seeds and cuttings early, everybody! Maybe this one will be the biggest RU ever!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Gene - so sorry about the link. I was too tired to be doing anything that remotely required concentration... Thanks for fixing it, Kim!

LindaTX8 - I'm really excited about the Master Naturalist program. I debated about the MG class, but I'm into anything and everything outdoors, so MN will be a good fit for me. I'd love to talk to you about it - so hope you can come.

Sounds like the RU will go on long enough for me to get there - so count me in!

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll be there with bells on! This is pretty much the only vacation I get and I'm not about to miss it.:)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I took the MN class in the fall of 06, it is wonderful, one of the best things I have done.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Good to hear that, Frostweed - and you and the others are so good to share your knowledge with us! The first class is March 1, so that day will only be my 2nd class - I'm so pumped for this!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

It will be quite an experience, I loved it.

Crossville, TN

I have you listed!!

As the Soothsayer said to Julius "Beware the Ides of March...Roadrunner JUST might show up!!" LOL Jo

Sheila, Whatcha wearin'?

CJ

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Bryan, TX(Zone 8b)

My mom and I will be there. We live in Bryan, let me know what else you need!!!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9b)

I'd like to come as well. See you all there...........Lynne

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Robert and I are planning to be there. March 15 is just two months away! I was out of town a few days and missed the chance to help reserve the pavillion, but I will be glad to help any way I can.

Patricia

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Can we start a trade thread? I would but don't know how.

Anne, the internet challenged one. I know how to get to davesgarden and solitaire and that's pretty much it. lol

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm like you Anne, except I don't even do solitaire.:)

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I wouldn't have found it except I saw the word games somewhere. lol

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sure thing! I'll get one started.

Trade thread is here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/804075/

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeay hooray Ceejay and Lynne - and all those of you I haven't met in person yet. Many of you are familiar to me here on DG. Can't wait.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Up to 18 members now....looking good!!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Looking forward to meeting you in the flesh, book! And a lot of other new ones here. Love to put names with faces.

WillisTX - Didn't you tell me you're taking the MG classes this year?

Roadrunner - You are just plain awesome!

Kim - Thanks much for taking this on again.

Gonna have to work fast. March 15 comes early!!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

So...does anyone have a Farmer's Almanac? I'm just wondering if it'll be a very cold March...or warm! Well...there's always those patio heaters or something. I went to a big plant sale in Boerne last year the first week in April and a freak cold front came along and it didn't get above freezing that day. That didn't stop me, however! I just didn't stay as long as I would have liked to.
I've been wandering around the Internet more or less since the 90's. Took a course on basic computer stuff back then, I think. Not that I know what to do when things aren't working right! Just got broadband...DH quit smoking and we had a deal...with the money he saves, I agreed we could get satellite internet. So much faster this way!
