links not working

Is it just me or are the links placed in posts not working?

I haven't had any problems--maybe you could post a couple links to some of the posts you're having trouble with to see if anyone else has problems with them too? My first thought would be that the person who posted the link has a typo or something in it that makes it not work right. Or do you have a popup blocker? Whenever I click a link, it always opens in a new window and sometimes my popup blocker will block it the first time I try, but when I click again right away it'll usually open.

It's happened several places. I can't get any links to work. So it's not a typo. I have Firefox with its built in popup blocker, but it has never done this before. So I don't think that could be it. You aren't having any problems? Hmmmm...

No, I haven't any problems at all, and I've been on here since about 5-5:30 or so my time and I've clicked a number of links during that time (and I went and checked one right after I saw your post, just to make sure it wasn't something that had just happened). Does anyone else use your computer? If none of the links are working it sounds like a popup blocker issue to me, so I wonder if someone else accidentally changed your security settings on your browser. If they set the security to a higher level than it had been, that can make the popup blocker more sensitive.

A couple things you can try...if you have Internet Explorer on your computer, try it and see if you're having the same problem (if you have a popup blocking program on your computer, it could block things no matter what browser you have, but if you're using Firefox's built-in one then IE may work better). And try right-clicking on the link and choose "open in new window", that usually foils my popup blocker when I'm having problems with it being too sensitive. I would also check your security and popup blocker settings on the off chance that they did accidentally get changed either by you or someone else. Or you could always just try rebooting the computer--that will solve a myriad of unexplained problems!

I'm the lone ranger on this computer, and I just got on this evening, so I think the rebooting is the answer. You're right, that solves a lot of problems. Most of them in fact. (And why didn't I think of that?) Thanks, ecrane.

I'm havng this problem today.

Everywhere? Or just in some places? ceejaytown never came back to say whether the problems were continuing or if rebooting fixed it. If it's happening to you on all threads, then I'd check some of the things I suggested previously, but if it's only happening in certain threads, maybe you could give a link to the ones that are causing problems and someone else can see if they have trouble with those links too.

Well, it sort of magically healed itself later. Then I saw someone else post the same problem - I think on the tabs thread, and I felt maybe it was the tabs thing messing stuff up for awhile. So, bottom line, I don't know what happened, or how it was fixed. But three people (that we know of) makes me think that there's more to it...

I experienced the same problem with the links, all of which were DG links. Problem went away.
