OK Liz..as per your request I'll keep this project easy to find and will post step-by-step instructions..but for now as not to mislay the photo or helpful hints I'll post what was sent to my this morning from Patti..
Project: Ice Cream Sundae glass windchime
Best/Worse/What did I learn 2nd Workshop
What Patti kindly sent to me this morning...
At the top...(which is actually the bottom of the glass) she has four holes drilled to hang it. The wire runs through a bead or two down through the hole , through a couple of beads then back up through the beads ( one of them being a crimper bead) then up to attach to a 1 1/2 inch piece of chain.
Each of the four holes are like that . The four pieces of chain are connected to a swivel and it is connected to a split ring for hanging.
If you look at the bottom of the glass in the center. She has drilled a hole clear through the bottom to the the inside of the glass. There are nine wires (I imagine 8 of them are folded in the middle. they are connected to four beads then go down through the hole in the bottom . They are beaded to hang to the edge of the glass (the top edge which is now hanging upside down and becomes the bottom.)
She has drilled eight evenly spaced holes around the edge of the glass. The wire goes out the hole to the outside slid on two beads...thread it back through the first bead and back through the same hole it came out of...then the wire attaches to the hanging part.
She has wire and crimper beads and glass beads attaching between each piece of cut glass.
I hope you can see that in the picture and anytime you have questions please let me know and I'll see if I can help..looking forward to seeing your project..
thanks betty, will be watching closely
Better rush out Liz and pick up your supplies, know how impatient you are..I could almost bet you'll have one done before me AND if so, lol you get to posting...
Now the drill bit I purchased is very miniature, would say could even be 1/8th of an inch and it's a 'diamond' bit..found it where all the dremmel tools and attachments are...
With you having all the goodies at hand and have the knowledge to improvise I can just imagine what you'll drum up..
lol no you'll have the first one done i promise! off to work
OK Liz..with everything going on here today I did take a few secs to find my diamond bit AND to look at the glasses..now I'm not sure, perhaps different ones have different designs..when you look at the photo you see that they must have drilled where the glass comes to a point on the base about 6 holes for the beads..well mine come in such a point that I don't think I could drill more than 2 or 3 holes..so, on your shopping trip keep this in mind..try and find one where the bottom of it is about the size of our looney/tooney..I don't know, maybe 1/4" larger than your quarter...something to keep in mind..
