Here in northern Virginia, morning glory season is definitely over for a few months. After the vines on my balcony died off, I looked at all of the seeds that I had harvested from them, decided that I had far more than I would be needing, and germinated and sprouted some from the container of "unknown but probably blue" seeds for experimentation. For the last few months, every time I walk into the workroom, I have been reminded of the so-called expert at the "Arrogant Farms Nursery and Garden Center" who literally laughed at me and told me that there was "no way in hell" that I'd be able to grow morning glories indoors, let alone get them to flower.
These two enthusiastic Milky Way plants have been growing quite happily in a flowerpot on my windowsill since October, producing blooms almost daily from November through mid-December, and this morning, I harvested over six dozen seeds, mostly from pods with five big, round, black seeds in them. That was only about a quarter of the pods on the vines, with many, many more in various stages of ripening.
Morning glories as houseplants
The wilty-looking foliage is a relatively new development; the leaves were much perkier until it had to go a week without water in December.
The flowers are pretty much just standard Milky Way variety, but it's interesting to see them opening up when I get home from work in the morning, and in full bloom by the time I wake up. The blooms last a little longer indoors than they do outside, I think.
...and these are the seeds that I supposedly wouldn't be able to harvest from them.
Interestingly, very few of the outdoor vines were properly labeled, so I didn't have any more seeds that I could say were Milky Way for certain (these were grown from a random batch). Since both of these sprouts turned out to be Milky Way, I can label everything that comes from these vines properly now.
Nice blooms Seamus.
Ha! Don't you love proving the "experts" wrong?
Nice blooms Seamus!!! Kind of ruffly aren't they..... I like them!!!
I just started to germinate 24 more hoping for blooms by mid March.... just when I can't take the winter any longer!!!
Nice plant! Thanks for sharing your pictures; they're wonderful.

Beautiful(!)...
Oh, I am so glad to hear that worked! And such a nice healthy looking vine, too. Gotta try that next winter, for sure!
Bravo!! I thought about trying this, now I will. You should take these pix and show the guy, "maybe not in hell... but INSIDE, on my window sill in Va." They did bloom!!!! I guess you proved him wrong. :0) Have a great day your blooms are beautiful. Rose
Bravo indeed! Your vines look great!!! And I too love the ruffly blooms! Very nice! Thanks for sharing them with us! And glad you proved the "expert" wrong! LOL! LOL!
