Daily pics vol.49
Northern Harrier (Marsh) Hawk
Ooops! Red-shouldered Hawk ;-)
With its shoulder hidden!
I believe that Sapsuckers are in the Woodpecker family
Yep, correct

Nice pic of the YBSS bhaugh! He seems to be happy gleaning from your tree, however you can get Woodpecker suet at most markets, WM etc. and hang it in a nearby tree branch... can't hurt. Birds love suet in the wintertime especially.
I was about to post something here in response to Wallaby's Jackdaw pecking so long in that tree, and decided to make a new thread for it so as not to break the flow here...

My guess is YBSSs/WPs, love to find these kinds of borers and bugs in the trees.
debnes

bhaugh~ What kind of tree is it?

debnes

Looks like Silver Maple to me.

After this he flew up and hid in the shrub there... thinking he could hide...
I don't think so!!
Maybe he's bluffing . . . pretending to have a damaged wing, so the potential prey thinks "needn't bother worrying about him, he's injured and won't be able to get us" ??

Very nice pics GP! Congratulations on the new bird!
What great formal wear that quail has! :-)
It took five attempts to post this. Every time I tried the power would go out for an hour or so. We lost power for 30 hours two days ago and they supposedly had it fixed. It's an exercise in frustration setting the Microwave clock or the clock on the stove this time of year. I got tired of the on again off again power so I went out and fired up the generator. It gets aggravating at times, but it beats living in the city. Been there done that.
Nice close up of the Woodpecker gardenpom, now I'm looking at feet, lol, they all look gnarly.
Fancy that, a Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, who would have known, lol! Never heard of a Gnatcatcher lf any type, must catch gnats. I wonder if gnats were hiding in the seed pods.
Lucky for you to see the Northern Flicker again pelle, looks like you had some blue skies there too, great shot. It was very grey here today, had some gale winds too.
Lol Adelbert, is it you that has had enough of the white stuff, seems like you've had it forever. Love the expression on the quail's face.
This looks like the two baby Wood pigeons together, definitely is on the left and the right one looks immature. They are both around still anyway, with mom usually close by. This was 2 days ago when we had sun.
Nice pic wallaby! Love to see them growing up.
Very neat quinea fowl bebop! Lovely pics!
Pelle, I hope your little guy makes it.
GP, very nice pics!
deb, you know I love that hawk!
Hi, bhaugh! Nice pic Of you YBSS!
I went to the mailbox and saw this fellow siit right across the road. Went and got the camera and got a few shots since it was not raining real hard at the moment!
Red-shouldered Hawk.
On Christmas day a hawk show up in my back yard. I haven't been able to get a photo of it; but I've seen it a few times since then. It has been terrorizing my other birds.
On the left is a poor little house finch that lost it's tail feathers; but at least it escaped with its life. And, on the right is all that remains of another bird (probably a white-winged dove) that wasn't quite as lucky.
Great pics guys!
Nanny that Hawk does look rough from all the rain!
Jane, Neat pics! Those Dove feathers look like a trophy of his on the wall!
Love the Anhinga catch bsharf!
