If I Add A Photo To My Member Page...

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

If I add a photo to my member page, can I remove or change it later? I'm asking this because I know that I can't remove photos I post to threads or to PF. I'm a little shy about adding my photo and would feel better if I knew I could always remove it later if I changed my mind.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sure, I change mine all the time. I don't think I've ever posted one of myself, though.

Thanks for the info, claypa!

I had considered posting a pic of my dog 1st just to see if I could remove it.

I noticed that you have """ in your picture area right now, or at least that's what I'm seeing. Does that mean that you had something there and removed it?

That appears if you don't have text along with your picture - do you see a picture of a door decorated with pine for Christmas? I'll probably change it soon.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Hmm. Actually, no, I don't see anything except the quotes; however, I just checked the DG member photos page and found that I don't see any of the pictures, only the words. I can see PF pics and pics in threads as well as thumbnails on journal pages but no member pics. How very odd.

I am having problems with the ActiveX and Adobe Flash 'stuff' on this laptop. Don't know if that may be the problem. I'll check again tomorrow on my other laptop. (To lazy to drag it out at this late hour.)

Thanks again for the help!

scutler, I would say that you are better off not posting a picture of yourself!
However, we would all appreciate seeing a picture of your dog. :)

scutler I would Love to see a photo of Widget and You!!

I can see claypa's pic just fine. I don't think it would be a problem with your Flash and Active X though that's making you not able to see it--I don't think Dave uses too much of that stuff because he wants to keep the site simple and easy to use. The picture's just a picture, you should be able to see it with a plain old browser without any of the fancy add-on stuff. (I think!)

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Scutler, what browser do you use?

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

germinator, you are probably right. Similar thoughts have kept my picture block empty this long. Lately, I vacillate between fear of exposing too much info (like a picture) on the Internet and a desire to present a "face" to the DG world. If I add a pic of myself, I was only considering a small, low res head shot. Thanks for the cautionary note. Perhaps, I'll 'sleep on it' a bit longer.

Thanks, pelletory!

I think I may just start with a pic of Widget and work from there.

Thanks for the info, ecrane3.

I know that I've been having problems with the Flash and X. The spyware checker steps on the X thing's toes causing strange errors on pages that use X; but that usually shows up as a small error msg at the bottom of the page (which I don't see on the DG page). Then I have to go in and fix it - again.

Still, even if X is not the problem with the mystery of the missing member pics, something strange is definitely going on with this laptop.

I just discovered I have posted duplicate pictures. Any way to remove them?

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Imanerd,

Well, here's the thing. On this laptop (Windows XP), I normally use IE 7 (auto updated); however, I also have FireFox 2.0.0.11 on here, and regardless of which of these I use, I do not see the member photos. On claypa's site, for instance, all I see is a couple of quote marks. On some other people's home pages I see things like "Here I am..." with no photo, etc.

Today at work I checked from my Mac using FireFox and there, just as described above, was claypa's photo of the front door with Christmas wreath.

So, whatever the heck the problem is, it doesn't appear to be a matter of which browser I'm using but rather something strange going on with this specific laptop. In the past, BTW, I have viewed member pics from this laptop. Just for sanity sake, I'm running the spyware checker.

Very strange stuff.

revclaus,

claypa says you can remove them. Have you tried to edit/remove them in your Preferences? Of course, I only see "" on your page. (lol)

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

revclaus--I can only see one picture when I look at your page, I think if you post a second one it probably overwrites the first one.

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Scutler,

Firefox is the greatest!!! Version 2.0.0.11 is the latest stable release so that shouldn't be the problem. And I don't think it is ActiveX or Flash because neither is used on the member pages (that I've seen anyway...but I've only been lurking for a couple of days). And Firefox doesn't support ActiveX anyway. Is JavaScript enabled on the XP laptop?

Your Flash/ActiveX issues could be due to insufficient privileges on your account or internet security settings set too high.

When I go to my page and it lists how many photos I've posted you can click on that number and that's where the duplicates are.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Are you talking about your picture on your member page, or are you talking about something like Plant File or Bug File pictures? If it's your member page picture, when I go there I can only see one picture so it must be just you who can see the others. Or if you're talking about PF or BF pictures, usually the admins will catch duplicate PF or BF pics before they go in, but if they accidentally let one slip through, then I'd go to the PF or BF entry and click on "report an error" and let them know to delete one of the pics.

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

ecrane, on every member's page there is a list of your contributions. If you click on "images" you'll see every picture you uploaded, probably to PF. If you click on images on my member page, you can see the duplicates.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Sorry for the confusion, the thread started out about the picture that you can post of yourself (or whatever else you want) on your member page, so I thought that's what you were talking about. If it's a duplicate PF picture, then just go to that plant's entry in PF and click on Report and Error, tell the admins that the pic accidentally was posted twice, and they'll remove the duplicate. I'm surprised it slipped through though, I've accidentally posted duplicates a couple times and they always caught them before they went into the database.

I am really glad to see discussion on this. I am very curious and love to click on a posters member name to see their member page. I am usually disappointed to find they haven't added anything! I love to see a photo and a link to more of their garden photos.
