The list is being close for now .. It will restart in March. Thanks to everyone who participated!!!!
This idea comes from the Newbie Welcome Wagon Seed thread. I though it would be nice for those new to gardening and growing plants from seeds to have a mentor.
What I will do is match up zones. Say a Newbie who lives in zone 8 with a mentor who lives in zone 8. Once they are matched up, the partners get in touch with each other. The mentor sends seeds to their partner and explains how to grow them.
The main thing for mentors to remember is stay away from information overload and send seeds that are essentially no fail and easy to grow. Stick to annuals and something that makes seeds freely so they will have something to trade with. It probably wouldn’t be a good idea to send a newbie hard coat seeds that need to be nicked and soaked.
Because of a better response than I thought .. I'll just keep adding names to zones so let me know if you want to be added. Reply to this thread (please don’t d-mail me) and indicate your Zone and if you are a Newbie or a Mentor.
If you don't know what your zone is, check the picture below.

Well doggone it anyway! LOL
WOW! I certainly wasn't expecting that! Now I'm trying to find a picture I can include with the article. And start filling in the body of the text. Thanks for you help, ladies.

Thank you Mittsy for taking me on.. :D That's so sweet too. :) I'm in Pawling, NY. That's just 1.5hrs north of NYC. I'm east of your sister off of I84. Just before going into CT actually.. And I just spoke to Sev this afternoon.. Little Benji has the sniffles. I was worried that he was going to catch whatever Alexander had.. But she said that she had internet problems. She didn't mention that her hubby's been sick though.. Humm..
Sorry Xeramtheum about that..

Sorry X
There is apparently another thread that addresses the Seed Saving Etiquette discussion going on here .. would everyone please delete all discussion of this subject currently in this thread and put a link to the thread where it should be?
It's not nice to hijack a thread and that is what is being done!

I don't know where the thread is, but all you have to do is click on the blue edit in the box next to your post. Find out where the original thread for Seed Saving Etiquette is and copy the address into your original post after deleting it all.

Thank you my dear, didn't intend for this thread to get hijacked, I was just looking for more information from some of the more experienced trades on here. Sorry.
Thank YOU!

>>Please see this site for Seed trading dos and don't s
thanks for adding that... i was reading that thread the past few days too.
Xeramtheum,
I have a question. Are we to address questions to our newbie/mentor here or directly to them by Dmail?
Mittsy
Good question mittsy-I had that ?? too...
I believe the questions should be handled through D-mail with your mentor/newbie so as not to jam up this thread.
Molly
:^)))
Is this where you get matched up with a mentor? I am new to this and could use a guiding hand.
Zone 8A

Thanks Molly .. like she said .. jump right in .. d-mail your partner as soon as you are matched!

X-I know I can't mentor them, but I can sure send them seeds that work in their zone-is this OK with you? I am waiting on a new member and they are waiting on a mentor..... :o)

I've got lots of Cosmos [cosmic orange] and Scarlet Milkweed ... they both do well in the south... and germinate easily.
For newbies -- one thing i started doing this year is.... click on a person, then check their Trades List. by checking their Haves list to see what seeds they have, then if anything grabs your fancy ... just drop them a Dmail. I've had most send me seeds that way.

Hi everyone ..
Robbi directed me here and I would like a mentor please
Glad to see you found us :o)
Hi Robbi :)
Hi tcs, distantkin, X
I have been looking for people loving gardening and found this on DG. It is so nice of you trying to help newbies like me. I must say that I am fairly new to plants and find it a good way of having an interest on my retirement.
I have been lurking most of the time on DG and think I found a lot of interesting people. In the future weeks, I will be building a gh for my step-daughter. I have finished mine some weeks ago.
I do appreciate you trying to take care of us newbies on DG. You people are great and make me feel very comfortable being at DG.
Thanks to you all.
André
Thank you and welcome! There are a lot of great people here! Do yourself a favor and explore .. there is so much here to see. Once place to start is on your home page .. up at the top under the Communities click on Extra's if you already haven't.

James, do you have any scarlet milkweed seeds yet? being in TX, where you get more butterflies than we do up north... this would be a great plant for you.
I still have some seeds left.
Andre -- welcome to Daves!!
what a great gift to your step daughter.
