Dave, Scrabble is my favorite also!
Alright, I'm moving NE :)
Voctor, I played a couple of times and it's a strategy game. You get to build your house, village, roads a settlement etc... really cool... I want to play again and get good at it!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Settlers_of_Catan
1 - pool tournament style
2 - Pigmania
3 - Computer I go here http://www.clububt.com
Pigmania?
My Mom loved Pigmania.
You have 2 rubber pig you throw out of a pig sty. You get points on how they land, a pig out 0 points, Hoofer 5 points Leaning Jowler 15 points etc. The worst Makin Bacon (they touch) - you loose your points. You have hog calls and SOOEE. Many dif. types of points.
Then you keep your score with a pig pad and a pig pen. I think I got the game in the 80's.
my kids are 17 (twins), and they still play Monopoly. They have friends over to the house, and after they've played their computer games ( if you want to call them that), they grab all the board games, yes even Life, Uno and Mille Bournes and play those games. They do this with my hub and me and I always lose......except for Uno.
i like scrabble too, though i'm not very good at it - i'm more used to doing crosswords.
Alice, They may have been playing the same game of Monopoly for 17 years. ;^) I always wanted to play so bad, then got bored waiting for it to end!
I like cryptic crosswords. Anyone else ever try them?
i never understand the ones in the Times.
Cryptics or regular crosswords?
their cryptics are, well, just too cryptic. Games magazine has good ones.
Chess, learned from a priest who used to travel with Bobby Fisher. ☺
i do the regular sunday times xword (almost) every week.
i did them almost every day when i worked backstage on an off b'way show. keeps the mind occupied, but still able to pay attention to other things.
We were all playing chess in the street during the Bobby Fisher championship in the early 70's. That's when I learned. It was funny hearing all the profanity during chess play as opposed to sports, where it normally was!
I liked Monopoly as long as I could be that little terrier. but I like Scrabble better. My DS is a really good chess player.
we could start our own little scrabble club...
Sounds good to me Amy!
I realized that I'm way too impatient for chess. I would prefer to play with a 30 second timer. (At least for my opponent)
My brothers and I were and are game addicts. Trivial Pursuit is a Thanksgiving must do. Men vs Women of course. We even played games before they became games (we think) We loved the dictionary game and when we saw it come out in a board game we were all knocking ourselves in the head. But the neverending game was Risk. That could go on for months.
We had most of the big board games when we were kids. Remember the 'anti-Monopoly' called 'Go for Broke'??
Pink Elephant, Canasta, Outdoor Survival Game, Trivia Pursuit....love em all. Oh, and Uno too!
Never heard of Pink Elephant. Saw a few while inebriated though.
And I forgot Domino's...has anyone mentioned that yet? DH & I play with DB and his GF everytime they come over.
Never played that - too young. I like backgammon.
I never played backgammon, believe it or not.
It is indeed a drinking game of my youth that I had the mis-fortune of playing one night at a party. I only played it once!! I was not very good at it at the one that tripped me up pretty good was this one:
" : " Betty Botta bought some butter./"oh," she said, "this butter's bitter!/If I use this bitter butter/It will make my batter bitter./I need a bit of better butter/ Just to make my batter better."/ Betty bought a bit of better butter./ Now Betty's batter isn't bitter.
mess up you drink...I drank, a few times.
Funny!
Was that night, not the next morning.
Been there...
Anyone remember the entire one red hen, a couple of ducks, three running hare four brown bear.....Drink
My DH does, he was pretty good at it.
My faves:
Scrabble
Boggle
Trivial Pursuit
But I can hardly get any of my family to play, or, when they want to play, I am not allowed. Could it be that I had majored in English?
It's the same with me and Pictionary, Candyce. It's my favorite game, but no one wants to be my opponent. Could it be that I majored in Art?
No one for Twister?? We used to play that in the street.
I loved Twister!!
The coed games were fun.
Yeah, I think I'd still like to play a co-ed game of Twister.
(but not in the street..?)
No response from Victor as he's on his way to Harpers!
Hee hee.
