Analog, the coreopsis is slow to emerge and new growth so tiny that I'm sure it's just fine. Smooth on the crocosmia corms: I will enjoy them and share with a pal growing cutflowers as well.
MauryHill- Thanks for the Schizostylis. I'll give the dk purple and also the cream iris to Pixy, or maybe Outta for a rendezvous on Vashon with the U"U bloodhound, or a rendezvous with Pixy elsewhere.
Pixy: can you add me to the "want" list for the orange Schizostylis, if you have them to spare? Thanks.
I have 2 epimidium (the large is epimidium sulfurum, not rubrum!)
Brunnera, corydallis, cream/purple/yellow Pacific Coast iris, lamium "golden Anniversary" and aconitum and dicentra formosa "Langtrees" for you. Can't wait to see your creative leaf artistry: I slobber like the bloodhound over the very idea LOL.
Katye: I have aconitum, brunnera Jack Frost for you. Ginger and dahlias ( likely) will have to wait. If I can get to the tubers tonight, the dahlias are a possibility for tomorrow, otherwise we'll meet later with the ginger/tubers. I will gladly take the Emily McKenzie corms.
RR-Can I give you somethings for Susybell? Do you live close enough that it's feasible? It would only be the dicentra formosa ready tomorrow. Let me know. I'll bring it anyway.
For you I have the dicentra and corydallis.
Outta, Hi! I'm bringing dog treats for you just because the world without bloodhound slobber is a lesser place LOL! I would love to meet your hound and pet those glorious ears someday. I will keep 'shade-part sun' and your woodland in mind for you as I tear out to dig some more things right now- before the "R A I __" hits later today.
If I missed anything for anyone, PLEASE just post or Dmail me, I'm in a hurry and sort of scanned above. Enjoy the day!
Spring Green Elephant Plant Swap
Pooch,
I would be happy to take the stuff for Susy. She will be coming to my work party next weekend. Thanks, Rachel
Annie -
I'd love a Pacific Coast Iris, if you have an extra.
Thanks
Kathy
P.S. My Frosty soil looks like it's about on schedule for spreading. Thanks again.
Annie, I'll definitely figure out a way to meet Outta on Vashon. That seems the easiest way to do it. Thanks for the iris. Those will be beautiful.
Outta, will you be training your dogs in one of the parks or at someone's house? I'll d-mail you to find out where to meet. If there is anything I have that you might like, I'll get that together also.
Annie, If you had any extra brunnera, I'd love some of that as well? If not, no problem. Thanks! :)
(Thanks Rachel!)
OH! U"U = Bloodhound! Duh! Now it's totally obvious! I've been trying to figure that out!
Funny, Sue - I read right over that, my brain taking it in as some sort of smile or other facial expression represented. Thanks for pointing that out.
Hi Katie, It wasn't me, it was Annie. It's nice to know that I wasn't the only one, though. :)
So I missed it twice. I want to thank YOU for pointing out what I missed in Annie's post.
Reading too fast - because people in this forum are prolific!!
Susy: I would love the Jade Plant! That would be a wonderful plant for our house. I hope I can meet the challenge of taking care of it. If we can use Ritche's as an intermediate point, maybe it could get up my way next weekend. I will be glad to get it from anyone in the Seattle or Eastside area either later that weekend or during the following week.
Pooch: I gathered that Coreopsis is slow to grow, and quite resilient from how it can take over. After dividing it, I gathered the excess soil and broken stems, and put it all back with the Coreopsis, as I dont want it taking over. It loves my moist to wet soils in that garden. Some of the divisions are soggy, due to when I cut them.
Rob
Analogdog, you're in Mountlake Terrace? Hmm. Tilly works in Lynnwood. Maybe she could take it in to work with her one day and leave it in her car until you could come by. Tilly, would that be possible?
(That would be an interesting journey, because my mom is in Seattle. She got the start from a jade plant that I bought either when I lived in Lake City or right after I moved down here. So, Seattle to Vancouver to Seattle to Vancouver to Olympia to Poulsbo to Lynnwood, to Mtlk Ter.....)They do very well in East or south windows.
In any case, I'll plan to bring it to Rachel's. I will tell you- It has been a bit overwatered. I'm trying to get my mom to concentrate on houseplants that like wet feet, but I'm not there yet..
Back in for late lunch: man what a gorgeous day!
Susy, for you I will dig the last brunnera that I've been dividing. I did get brave and unearth one hosta for you and Rach. It's the "gold one" LOL in the photo below, lower right. I think it's "Gold Standard" as I even found a label.
Also, my corydallis label turned up; life is good! It's called "pere blue" or "pere... something-I-will-check-again-before-tomorrow."
Analog- breaking news: the dogwood is 5 ft tall and I do believe that you are getting 3 separable shrubs out of the deal, one for sure has distinct roots. I was too preoccupied with muscling the 40 lb root mass into the cart so didn't pay attention to the other two trunks. :)
I couldn't find the little ginger canadense, but I bit my tongue and divided two bits (for Rach and Katye) of my Mom's taller wild ginger, maybe 10" tall, if you guys want it. The smaller, lower version will have to come later, it's just invisible at this point.
Got some surprises for Outta and her faithful working hound dog! Yippee.
Various extras of a few things, but I think my car is going to be packed with just you guys' stuff. Much is packed a la QFC bag, and largely bareroot.
Pixy, Yes, got some extra sibi iris in dk purple for you.
Kathy, yes- will bring you the PC Iris as well, no problem. Glad to hear Frosty's compost is working for you. ( Frosty was my favorite goat.) It's good stuff!
Pooch ~ So MANY hostas! I really like them. Question, though. My mom has one which "died" back this past winter. Are they supposed to do that? Yours are so green and blue and yellow and white and pretty!
Outta -
They do go away every year and do their thing underground. Completely normal.
*Phew* Wasn't sure. Thought maybe she killed it (she has a tendency, you know ~) She'll be happy to know it's okay, then. Is now a good time to move it? Seems to be blocking a sprinkler head in her bed and she wanted to move it earlier but forgot to ask us. Will do it this weekend or next if it's a good time. I haven't seen anything green on it yet.
Did I see someone say cuttings are okay? I have a escargot & angel wing looking glass that I am cutting. Any takers? I will be bringing gourd seedlings and shastas and some color annuals ans some iris but not sure what kind, planted 100 and labeled 0. OOps!
Now is a good time to dig Hosta. And to divide them. They are hard to divide. Might take a axe, in fact that is the easiest way to do it. Or a hand saw. You should be able to see the slightly raised little domes on the plant. Like coneheads:-) Doesn't matter if you whack a few or mangle the roots. They are very tough. I once let a clump sit in my arbor on bricks all year. They grew.
Pixy and Poochella, I have arranged a rendezvous with Sheri (Outtamygourd) on the next day after the Swap to receive your plants, so if it all works out you can give the iris and mahogany primula to her, and I'll get them on Sunday. THANKS THANKS THANKS, since I won't be able to say so in person. It turns out the place she is going on Vashon is about a mile away from my house.
Sheri, would you like some Ranier (June bearing) and Tri-star (ever bearing)) strawberry plants for your garden? Or walkable wooly thyme for a pathway? Or chives? If anybody else wants any of those, let me know and we can make arrangements for one of the future get-togethers or interactive gardener travel exchange.
I would love to have cuttings from your angel wing begonia, nwgordon. That would be great! Here are some other things I'm bringing:
cuttings of Phygelius 'new sensation'
and the following seeds have produced an abundance of seedlings. Some are already potted up, some are not. some have second leaves already, some don't. I'm not going to bring them unless someone here says they would like to have them. Here's the list:
Sunflowers: Bouquet hybrids, Red Sun
Mimulus tigrinus
Morning glory 'grandpa ott'
Mexican sunflower
Nasturtium 'alaska mix'
nemophilia 'blue eyes'
Dahlia coccinea (only a few of these)
Parochetus communis http://www.logees.com/prodinfo.asp?number=R1468-2
Datura 'black current'
Nicotiana langsdorfii
Cherry tomatoes 'sungold'
Helenium autumnale
Lotus crassifolius otayensis http://www.calflora.org/cgi-bin/species_query.cgi?where-taxon=Lotus+crassifolius+var.+otayensis
If anyone wants these and will be at Rachel's next weekend, they'll be bigger by then. Post here if you want some.
Forgot to post to Katie59 that the hydrangeas are not ready yet. They are still working on their roots but I will at least have rooted cuttings of Jogasaki and Glowing embers if all goes well.

Pixy, can I add a cherry tomato to my list? I adore fresh tomatoes and just gave up growing them in the garden due to blight, but in a large pot on the deck, I have a chance at fruit. Thanks!
Willowwind2, ( I also have to google Union WA to find exactly where that is...) but Hello, and you are right: hostas have those little conical growth tips. I sharpened my transplant shovel and what a difference that made for dividing up clumps. The trouble is when you don't mark where the hosta plant is and trying to find it when it hasn't broken ground yet. I did use the machete on the iris roots, however. Tough little customers.... hack saw also came to mind. But the hosta was very well-behaved for dividing, no axe required.
I will probably get there later than 10, no later than 11 though FYI. See y'all then!
Holly ~ the berries and the thyme would be great. I have plenty of chives and garlic chives sown. Thanks
Pooch ~ I have half a packet of seeds for grape tomato "Sprite" from Tomato Growers Supply, which is a smaller plant and good for containers. I would be happy to bring them tomorrow for you ~ I'm a new flower gardener but have been doing tomatoes and peppers for quite some time. I've always had good success with seeds from TGS.

I would love some of the morning glory and datura. I will bring you the Aw cuttings tommorow Pixy.
Analog would be happy to transport, anything you would like to have no problem will be back to work on the 11th. I work a late shift. let me know.
I'm reading all this and thinking, I can't go, I have nothing to trade yet, and I want this and that and all I can say is have fun, and think of me (maybe something we can trade for later) Winne Winne
Tills,. you ought to say what it is you want to have because you know we all have more plants than we can handle and don't really care if it's a trade or not. I've got that primrose put back for you, so post away if there is something else I can add with it.
NWgordon, I've got you down for those.
Outta, if you have lots of those seeds, I would like to try just a few. If there aren't many in the pack, no problem.

I have some "unknown iris" that I will be bringing. Two butterfly bush rooted cuttings, can't remember what species they are, Pixy told me once, I'm sure she can ID them tomorrow. I will also be bringing five white paper birch seedlings (about a foot to foot and a half tall) and some of the darkest purple iris I have ever seen, even the beard is dark. I will also bring some native mahonia.
If I get a chance I will get some cuttings of my willow and native honeysuckle. I also have a cestrum "orange peel" and another tree (can't remember what it is right now, to tired.) I will be there around 10 a.m. if all goes well, my dad is coming with me (he's the one that I got the gardening bug from!) He's looking forward to meeting all of my gardening buddies that I keep talking about.
See you tomorrow. Rachel
Thats the problem, I don't know?
Still Laughing from other tread, This is what I wold like if anyone as any.
Nandina ' heavenly bamboo'
Toad lilies
Daylilies
woolly thyme
Mahonia
Blue panda
Angle wing ( cuttings)
Phygelius
Hydrangeas ( Try again everyone I planted the slugs ate)
That better Pixs
I just hate to ask, just me.
Annie - Whatever you have for me I will love!
Tills- Remind me when you come for the work party and we will dig you some mahonia :0)
Oh goody
thanks
I have a car load of cardboard for you.
Melissa - I'd love a phygelius cutting. And thanks for saving the hydrangeas for me. I can wait until they're ready - I'm patient.
Mary, Mauryhill, Susy, and Willowwind - So sorry you won't be there. Supposed to be wet and windy tomorrow, as I understand it, so at least you can stay warm while thinking of us wet. We'll miss you!!
Rach - It's cool that you're bringing your dad. I'm so looking forward to meeting the guy that started it all.
Annie, Thank you so much for the hosta and brunnera! I note in the picture that you have a "Hosta-What-was-I-thinking"-I've got one too-except it looks totally different! Hmmm....;)
Everyone, have a wonderful time-wish I could make it, but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone next week at Rachel's.
Am I the first one back? Well I just want to say theank you to everyone at the swap today! It was fun meeting you guys in person and I got alot of cool stuff. Wish I had brought my camera! Already planted some stuff, bare root plants. Just an all around great day!
Fun day!!! I got back a little bit ago - Rachel and her Dad and Katye and I went to Flowerworld in the afternoon and then I had to run a quick errand. It was cold today - hope nobody got caught outside in the hail.
Thank you all so much for your generosity - I'm going to be planting for quite awhile. NWG, how was Ciscoe?
Ciscoe was great! I got there as he was finishing his radio show, and was putting together his favorite plants from the nursery talk. I got to ask him about the gunnera split and now I know how to do it. He was very nice to me, considering there was so many people that were trying to get his attention. Bought a few things, kiwi vine, heucherella"stoplight', been looking for that one, and some ivys. They are pretty axp. there! $35 for bears breech'Tasmaniain Anhgel', and $50 for podophyllum'Kaleidoscope'. Lucky I already have them. Otherwise Penninsula is a nice local nursery, so I probably won't drive that far for anouther visit. Next time I will keep driving and go to Dragonfly, I think this coming Friday.
Nice to meet you too NWGordon. The Green Elephant was super! Weather cooperated perfectly and I must say that the DG gang dominated the social butterfly corner of the church parking lot. We came, we traded, we stayed and stayed! DGer's were the last ones to leave and made the very most of the time there. What a delightful group of people and what great plants were exchanged! Katie59 was right, we should have gone for coffee. I was scouting coffee stops all the way home....
Thanks to everyone I traded with. I will be a busy bee choosing where to put things. I got trees! I got trees! And wait til you see Pixy's cement casting leaf that is my treasure for the day. Thanks so much for sharing your art and creative skills Pixy!
One lament, when I got home and unpacked the car- there, on the front seat floor was an entire flat of perennials meant for Outta or anyone- daylilies, more phlox, rockcress ready to bloom and I can't recall what all. Bummer.
Tilly, if you want daylilies, I can mail you starts of several, clumps of others. I wish you were there today, I had 3 kinds with me! Just say the word. If Katie59 goes to Rachel's, maybe I can ship some daylilies with her for you?
Great time, and great to meet all of you NW'erners who attended.
I will take whatever!LOL You could drop them by where I work in Bellevue or I could pick them up, whichever. I work at the Pancake Corral, voted best breakfast by Seattle Metropolitain Mag. I'll even buy!
Pooch - thanks so much for the boxload! Fun stuff all around.
FYI for next time: there's a Starbucks at the Avondale/116th intersection - same parking lot as the PCC.
Flower World had lots of pretties, and lots of things that had the enticement factor; we will return...
If you can't hook up with Katie59, I would be able to get out your way, as I am at the south end of the Plateau, 6 min from I-90, and another 10 -12 from your area. I will wait to hear from either of you about this.
My suggestion for the plant swap is that a mid-spring event might be useful. Say end of April or beginning of May?
Gordon - you said you already planted some of your score? I am impressed.....
This message was edited Mar 1, 2008 7:29 PM
Well I didn't want to lose anything! Have been going thru the seeds I got from mistygardener and if I plant half I could do a plant swap just in my yard! Let me know if anyone wants some.
