Um...hi...I'm new here...

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh, you morning people! It's easier for me to see a sunrise if I stay up all night than if I set an alarm for it.

Ok, I've got my coffee now ;) Ahhh!

How wonderful to get to design your own house! I'd so love to do that!
I forgot to include Katye & Katie on the "delivery" route-they're further east, I'm not quite sure how to include them. Maybe there can be two routes.

I gotta admit, it would definitely get DH's attention if I started opening packages with your lacy somethings...I might have to fight him to go get the mail! Hmm, maybe he'd be more interested in weeding!

Heidi, If I get what you mean, that sounds like a great trellis. Very sturdy, and wow, all the squash you could grow!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

That's how we get our dh's to weed more, great idea Susy! Heidi the trellis sounds really cool.

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

Ya'll are tooo funny. I think you are right about getting money's worth from those expensive 'unmentionables'... I buy cheap panty hose for plant ties, pump filters, filtering DH's lawnmower gas, I personally never wear them myself anymore. Your DH will NOT be interested in weeding... He will like looking at those pictures though.. LOL Hope you all are ok after the wind, snow,, Cattle fencing makes great support for a greenhouse over PVC pipe..

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Owwweee - Ok Ok I was up at 7:30. But the dogs made me go back to bed for a spell.
I am a morning & night person. It's confusing - believe me!
Heidi - trying to "see" this trellis structure: four - 4x4's? So the rebar crossed over the top? idon'tgetit...

the dh in residence does not weed. venturing outside might be hazardous to his health.

Are you all hearing any more about sn*w tomorrow?

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I'm a morning and night person I was up at 7 a.m. just didn't get to the computer till later.

Kingston, WA

Hi Katie the trellis is probably 20' long like a tunnel. and the rebar makes large x's over the top and being long the peices the kind of pop up. Some feild fence or chicken wire is on the bottom half to help hold the twiners.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Got it, Heidi! That's how i was seeing it, but wanted to make sure.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

oh, katye, so glad to hear I'm not the only one with an indoor husband! And I too am in the morning catagory - but thinking I might have to work out how to stay not quite so morning, getting up at 4 a.m. right now - and tomorrow it is back to workwork! May have to do a bit of adjusting.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

No morning person here, I work nights, and its hard to keep up with all of you. Hopfully I will get back to being that morning person again but then I'm at work, AAA no help for me.
Good luck to all, I'll ketch up one of these days????

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks, EFGeorgia1. Our wind has stopped, thank goodness, and we have settled into January's version of bleak. It's actually a brighter day today than usual and it's not raining right now, so I'm guessing that everyone is outside in the yard. I'm going to my great-nephews 3rd birthday party in a few minutes, so I'm missing the time in the yard.

I don't wear panty hose anymore and I have used the old ones for things around the house. The farthest I've gotten them into use outside is to tie up tomatoes, but I guess I'll have to rethink that and keep them in mind for other things.

I love the idea of having an underwear garden. Your scarecrow could be female with underwear and sunglasses on and the theme of your art and "supports" for vegetable growing could be bras, panties and hose. That's great.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Doesn't smell like snow today - hope we don't have a surprise. I did hear theat news, but don't want to believe it.

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

We had hail that covered the ground like snow about an hour ago. The wind was quite strong.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

It's dry down here right now, and brighter than yesterday.
Ew, hail-Growin, you can keep that!

Kathy, I was thinking about something just like that myself! Could be fun-wish I had more space.

HI EF, don't know that I've chatted with you before-nice to "meet you"-and all the way from Georgia! :)

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Snowing here east of Bellevue (above Lk Sammamish).
Don't stick! Shoo! Go away!
National Weather Service predicts snow for us tonight. Oh joy.
Ice always makes for a fun commute with rear-wheel drive.

"underwear garden" - this could get interesting.

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

"underwear garden" - how should this scarecrow look?

Once in open chat someone forgot the "w" in my name and it stuck around for a while, after we all finished laughing.

Looks like he needs "whitey tighties"!
or
She needs a lot of help.

Groin? groan...lol

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Well so far today we have had rain, wind, snow and a few very quick peeks of sunshine (it's teasing me!) By the time I get my coat, hat and shoes on it's gone and one of the others above have arrived. I did vacuam, and mop the whole house today (boring.....) and I cleaned one of the bathrooms. Now I can look at more seed catalogs, yippeeee!

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Here's a really nice couple I came across last autumn. Unfortunately, their neighbors don't think much of them (they do have a bit of an attitude problem!). Tragic...

Now that's the kind of seasonal decorations you don't see too often!

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Certainly makes the trick-or-treaters think twice, huh?

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

they would have been fun to animate like the different figures at Disneyland - reference Pirates of the caribbean, etc....

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Could put a Captain Jack hat on the guy and Elizabeth's dress on the girl. One could do an entire PotC garden if one were not "disinclined" to do so. DH and I have toyed with the thought of the new deck being all Black Pearlish, or at least kind of pirateish, but I feel it may be just a skosh over the top, huh?

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

LMAO... I think that first scarecrow needs some stuffing.
Growin, hope that hail didn't hurt the trees/plants...or humans or houses.. or cars... I guess I should have put humans first.
Thanks for welcome Susie.
I will have to be a morning person again in the morning. Working as substitute teacher for 3 weeks. Nitey nite.
Elaine
to brighten up those blah winter days here is amaryllis I got from my Mom.. wonderful Christmas present.

Ooooh - Georgia. On behalf of the former gradeschooler me, I apologize for my mis-treatment of the substites. We probably weren't as bad as some, but we didn't try to make it easy on them.

I saw some snow on the way to Mill Creek today and one gal at the party who lives in Somerset - high hill east of Bellevue and almost to Issaquah said they'd been having snow since this morning. Oh Joy is right. My truck is rear-wheel drive AND pretty light to boot. Hate to be the first one on the road in the morning.

OMG - I love the Black Pearl deck idea - even just a couple of distinct touches would be something for your guests to talk about.

Groin - oops, I mean, er, Growin, love the scarecrows - I salute the humans' creativity.

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Georgia...LOVE the amaryllis! Here's mine from this year, but I like your's better. I'm an earth tones kinda gurl. Wanna trade? Hmmm?

K59...I love the whole pirate/swashbuckling thing. We will probably do some tiny little details which are piratey in nature. Should be fun. Maybe have a deck warming party where everyone has to dress up like pirates and wenches! WooHoo! Tragically (or not), I worked briefly at Disneyland while in high school and know all the words to Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a Pirates Life for Me (and have all the movies). < = S

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Uh oh - now I'm singing it - and, even more tragically for me, I don't the words. Might have to Google them so I can get off the first part of the song . . . :-)

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Sheri - I never worked there, but visited MANY times & know all the words because it was my favourite way to get rid of the "It's a small world" lyrics outtamyhead!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Aiey!!! I think this just made it worse.

Ooops. You should have given a warning for me to read before opening up the thread. Here I go again . . .

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

OHHHH, I will not remember "it's a small, small world"......... It is really interesting how that sticks in your memory. There has to be something there to teach letters/sounds/ or multiplication tables..rap music is the latest. You scoundrels all...
love that amaryllis and yes, I love to trade. Of course this one will be a year or two away. That sure is a beautiful pink. Is it apple blossom?
Katie,, you would love "Mrs. Flanagan" (she has been doing it for 30+ years) And she knows ALL the tricks..LOL
Have to go and do a search for penguins..
Elaine
P.S... It was 74 here today. Southern weather.. give it a day....

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Rub it in, Georgia...74! Bah! It's supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow here. Was a cold and blustery day on the Peninsula...brrrrrrrrr

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

Drag plants out of greenhouse, drag them in (for 17 degree temps), drag them out,, for some rain hopefully, sorry about that snow. well, it will make those dormant plants grow better.
Nitey nite,,

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

74 degrees warm!! Enjoy it FOR us, Georgia.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I dunno, Kathy, 74 degrees... sounds like we're being invited over for some famous Georgia hospitality and maybe some tea... ;)

Georgia, you keep talking like that and one day you'll look out your front door to see a whole herd of pasty-faced PNWers lying on your lawn just soaking up sunshine ;)

(edit for spelling...)

I'm with you Susy! When do we leave? Pacific Northwesterners don't tan we rust!

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

I'm in.

I like a long drive and prefer warmer weather.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I could use 74 and a little southern hospitality right now. Lots of snow at my house this morning - and then I had to wait quite awhile for a bus. My feet still aren't warm yet.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Mostly we just scare others because the glare from any light hitting our faces causes temporary blindness for those that happen to be in the vicinity.
Sheeesh - 64° sounds fabulous; 74° sounds like a vacation is in order.
