Hi vernes, Yes its a male Downy Woodpecker, the males have that little red patch on the back of their heads and the females don't.

Today I have some novelty pictures… First, "A Tale of Two Tails." One missing a tale and one oddly pointing up like a wren.

and secondly… A housefinch with some cute white head feathers.

Nice photos everyone ..... I have taken a short hiatus from photographing my backyard birds and concentrating on practicing my skills on the moving target of the Bald Eagle. However, in doing this I came across these two friendly Black Vultures.

It has been a rainy day and supposed to snow tonight. We did have sun though for a few days and I was able to get a few shots.

Cute little Downy!

These are our local Canadian Geese heading for the pond! Hope you can see...they were high up in the sky and I only have 10X zoom.

I watched this little Downy "hiding" in the leg of this platform feeder. I watched him for several seconds and he didn't move a muscle (or feather) then all of a sudden all the Starlings invaded. Do you think he was indeed hiding? I swear I've never seen one of these little WP set so still for so long and it looks to me like his feathers are flat. Or...I may just have an over-active imagination! LOL!

I hope someone can ID this bird for me. It was very high in the tree and I have 2 poor pics. I think it is a Northern Flicker WP.

dellrose looks like a Flicker to me. I've got several in my area but they are camera shy.

The piglets are still here and doing well.
