Well Marilyn, you just gave me the proof, that chickadee do indeed eats peanuts. Tried to tell DH about that., But he didn't want to believe me. Now I have the picture to prove it...HA HA.
I can't get over the variety of birds you get. You must be living close to the wooded area. Nice pictures.
Various Photos From Our Yard - Part 2
Rose,
Thanks!
I love my new camera! Like the way it takes the photos!
A much improved version of the one I was using (both Fuji Finepix cameras).
Still learning all the features on it. Haven't taken any pics since 12/31, but this week I'll take more.
Burn,
I didn't realize that they did either! I was in my house and on my knees taking pics thru an open window. Noticed a Dee on one of the peanut feeders and was really excited when I did my trimming/cropping of the pics.
Our house on the side is 8 ft. from the property line (the wooden post I smear nutty pb on is at the border approx.) and the wooded area will unfortunately, become developed for homes. We've been here for ten and a half years and it's been great with the birds flocking to our yard from the wooded area.
Nice pic Marilyn.
I've only had a female coming around since last Spring and she just wants
Sunflower Seed. She goes to the same feeder all the time.
I'll be filling it tomorrow and I'm going to add some peanuts to it but I'm surprised she hasn't touched the suet feeders or peanut silo. The males used to love the peanut silo.
Pelle,
The WP's here all love the nutty pb, peanuts, suet cakes and other nuts. They'll eat the sunflower seeds also.
The WP's and other birds seem to love and prefer the WBU peanuts than the peanuts I've bought from PetSmart (they've must be spoiled!), so I'm going to try and make a trip over to WBU Friday to get a bag. They're really loving the C & S brand of Woodpecker Treat (blue wrapper - got from Home Depot) and I got plenty of it, but they and the starlings are going to town on it.
I also have the C & S Peanut Treat suet cakes (original orange wrapper I got from Duncraft), I used to serve them the C&S orange wrapper ones from Lowe's, but Lowe's has been wrapping all their suet cakes in green and I think the birds noticed a difference (some how) and decided not to get the suet from Lowe's. Lowe's also carries Woodpecker Treat cakes. I must have spoiled the birds, because they didn't want anything other suet cakes than the Peanut Treat, but they really love (esp. the Downys) the Woodpecker Treat.
I don't understand why your WP's are so 'picky', I would have thought they would love all that your feeding them.
Marilyn
Hi Marilyn, Like I said its just this one female.
The males love the peanuts (from the bird shop) when they come around,
I think its just also that this female likes the Squirrel Buster feeder that is hanging from the tree.
Last year that was the only feeder she would use also but back then it had nut and berry mix in it.
I guess she's just a little odd. Theres such a variety of things out there but that feeder is her favorite. :-)
Marilyn, you have the best show going on in your yard all the time. I just have to get more feeders.... Great pics.
Thanks Pelle!
Thanks Beclu!
Pelle, I don't have any birds going to my Squirrel Buster feeder. I had a few HF's use it for a couple of days when I first put it up, and then nothing! I'm been wondering why.
If your little female Downy, then I guess that's all that matters. You'll have to make sure her favorite feeder is filled at all times to keep her 'fat and sassy'! Downys are such sweet little birds!
Marilyn, I have a squirrel buster but I only have BOSS in it. I get all kinds of birds coming to it. But I don't have any other feeders near it, only a suet feeder about 10 ft away. Try changing the kind of seed in it and see if that helps.
Thanks Beclu! I try that in a few days when it gets much warmer! We had and are still getting unseasonably cold weather last few days and not going to warm up until a few days from now. I'm sure you're getting cold weather too!
