DH took this pic on our front porch of a Hummingbird resting for a moment at one (one of four) of the Hummingbird feeders right in front of the porch. It is already shady in the front of the house at the time he took the pic.

DH took this pic on our front porch of a Hummingbird feeding at one (one of four) of the Hummingbird feeders right in front of the porch. It is already shady in the front of the house at the time he took the pic. We have two Hummingbird feeders in the front and two in the back filled with plain sugar water.

I can't wait for the Hummers now that I have my new camera!! Tell DH Great shot!

Hebron, KY

DH took this pic sitting on our front porch of a Hummingbird resting on a "Y stake" below one of the feeders.

These stakes are mainly used for flowers, but I've found that the Hummers love to sit and rest on them, so I have them 2 or 3 in the front yard near their feeders and 3or 4 in the back yard near their feeders.

I also have something else that is for flowers that I use for the Hummers in the back yard. I have "Gathering Rings" in containers on my patio near the feeders. The Hummers love to rest on those too.

I have the Y Stakes in different sizes, 1 ft.,2 ft., 3 ft., 4 ft., I listed the link for Gardeners Supply, so you can see what it is and they have 2 of the sizes. I got most of mine at a local garden center and I did buy some at GS this past season.

I'll be glad to see those little hummers again. They'll only get back around beginning of June. That was a great idea for the Y stakes, and rings. It's something I'll have to remember for next summer.
Tell DH he did a good job on those shots of hummers. Happy for you gonna get your new Camera. Can't wait to see those pictures.

Thanks Nanny and Burn!

Hummer resting on a Y Stake. DH took this photo from the front porch on 9/1/07, but in the evening at 7:19 pm.

The Y Stakes are perfect for the Hummers! Same with the Gathering Rings stakes!

I stuck some 'garden use' bamboo sticks in the ground around the sidewalk in front of our front porch to keep the utility guys from walking anymore in my garden and the Hummers found them to be another perfect resting place near the feeder!

DH took this 9/1/07 at 7:17 pm in the evening from the front porch.

Aw Marlilyn...your hummers are so cute and make me dream of warmer spring days and the start of our new gardens!

Hebron, KY

Thanks Pelle and Rose! I'm looking forward to Spring too and seeing the Hummers come back!

How do you post a short video here? DH took 3 videos of Hummers in Sept. 2007 and I would love to post them. Thanks!

Marilyn what kind of camera do you have? I just tried getting some pictures of the birds at my feeders but I can't get close enough. Can you ID this bird from the photo. It was black, orangeish brown and white.

Betty,

Is this the one? Towhee?! That's what it looks like to me.

Edited to add..... I've been using a Fuji Finepix S5200 digital camera with a 10X zoom, but I'm getting a Fuji Finepix S8000fd with an 18X zoom!

http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/s/finepix_s8000fd/

I do alot of cropping/trimming on pics.

I love the Towhees! Mr. Towhee and Mrs. Towhee is what I've been referring them to. I love to hear them sing, "drink your tea". If I hear the male sing that, then I don't have to see him/them, to know they're there. Beautiful bird and they're here all year!

I don't always get too close to the birds, so my pics show the birds on 'the small size'. I can't wait to get my new camera so hopefully, the birds 'will look larger' in my pics.

Marillyn, Thanks for the hummer pics. I really miss those little guys. Becky

Becky,

Me too! DH and I always miss them when they leave in the Fall and excitedly look forward to seeing them in the Spring! ;-)

Thanks Marilyn. It is a towhee. I moved to TN in Dec of 2005 so I am seeing alot of birds that I can't identify. I just set up my feeders last week and so far I have seen 1 towhee, cardinals, doves, TT's, sparrows and a blue jay. Also a Downy woodpecker. My camera only has a 5x zoom. I guess I need to get myself a new one with a better zoom. I don't have a window that looks out to where the feeders are (a tiny apartment) so I have to go out and wait for the birds to return to the feeders to get pictures.

Marilynbeth, I love your pictures of the Cardinals. We don't have them here in Oregon and I just love them they are so beautiful! Our d, sil and grandkids lived in Lexington for a few years and she said they were gorgeous. I don't think anyone can come up with such vibrant colors like Mother Nature herself!

Very very nice Marilyn..that female Cardinal and the RBW are my favorites. The looks on their faces are just so cute. It looks like you are enjoying your new camera...how do you like it compared to your other one?
