Jan - that's awful!!! Not new to DG but to the Brugs. I do have PP I'd be happy to share...just dmail me, if interested.
i think i'm going to lose my brugs! what am i doing wrong? 3
Hey everyone! Thank for all your messages!
Jan ARGH, doesn't that just frustrate you to no end!??!?! Some people are just scum. Sorry for your loss. :(
I just think that a having your plants stolen right off your porches or anywhere on your property must leave a person feeling physically violated... I wonder if I would just say to heck with plants... I sure have sympathy for everyone that has something like that happen to them. Amanda, I've meant to get a d-mail to you. Those newbies are keeping me on my toes in that #5 thread. I still have my schizo hib. It lost a bit of length off the branches over winter, but has doubled the amount of leaves it had last year. So, I'm pouring the food to it and hope hope hope for blooms, even a couple...You have some in the ground, don't you? Hibicus, I mean. I'm hoping the no gooders didn't get all your potted stuff. Jan, I hope you feel better today. I've been thinking about you and send positive happy thoughts your way.
AuntB - Yes ma'am, I do have 2 Schizo in the ground. One of them is flowering like crazy and I seriously haven't even fed it much yet at all this year. I've been spending time trying to fight weeds on a budget (I know, crazy). But I had to cut back both of my Schizo this past year (not sure if that was a good idea or not) because the tips were so very dead-looking. Since then, they have both grown a great deal, putting on loads of new leaves as you say yours are doing. If you don't mind me asking, what temps are you experiencing right now? Ours are in the 90s, and I've noticed mine are seeming to really bloom loads in this heat ... at least one of them is.
Well, the thieves did get a few of my favorites. They even got my Nightrunner!!!!! Since locking the back gate, I haven't had those type of problems. But wow, was that ever violating.
This past weekend we went to Lake Sam Rayburn (pic of me watching my princess fish attached) and my neighbor killed a possum in my backyard. Well, I think that possum was responsible for messing with my timed sprinkler, so for 4-5 days five of my hibiscus and two Brugs (including a Snowbank seedling and a hybrid one from Liz) were left without water. While the latter Brug will make it, no problem, I have no idea about the others. In this heat my plants NEED water and I can tell when they go one day without it. Ugh ... I'm glad my neighbor got the possum because he was wreaking havoc in both of our yards. I'm so irritated that the critter messed up my sprinkler. Ah well, such is life.
I'll go check out that #5 thread! Thanks for the heads up!
Oh, Amanda, look at that lil darlin! JUST PRECIOUS! (the both of you!) I love her stance... What a cutie! We've had upper 80's and even upper 90's lately, and humidity. I have a not working DD at home and she's been watering for me during the week. So sorry bout the dang possum. Seems like once they start coming around, they don't leave unless you take steps to radicate them. Folks over in MO were (and probably are) bothered by armadillo's. They keep working their way north. They are burrowing animals as you know so, really wreaking havoc with peoples gardens. I hope your parched plants recover, remember brugs are very forgiving. Maybe offer them some superthrive or the like to boost their energy. Look Amanda, Hot Ross! Sure come on over there, we're having fun.
HEY Amanada!!! "Welcome back"...to your thread :) My loss of one plant is nothing compared to what was stolen from your yard---we have the entire backyard fenced-in with two-locked gates so that "the girls" (beagles :) can be 'free' to run/play. I know that a fence can be 'climbed' but fencing sure gives me more of a secure, safer feeling. It shouldn't be any problem to obtain more of the PP cactus ---easier (and cheaper) than replacing valuable brugs and trop hibs. Talking bout brugs---mine are growing bigger each day and I've got a Voodoo Lily that seemed to pop up overnite and is getting huge---WHOO HOO!!! Maybe I should put the 'stinky' flower (when it blooms) near where I had my PP stolen!
Amanda---at first I was wondering what a 'princess fish' was (LMBO!!!) and then I looked at the pic :) Your little princess is growing to be a beauty just like her Mom! I still call my DD 'princess' and she's 28...when he was little, DS, 30, WAS my 'punkin' but, when he was the 'old age' of 4 and going to pre-school, it was requested...by my punkin...not to call him that in front of his friends :(
Instead of pulling weeds make a sign..."Free Weeds-Pick your own"...LOL!
Jan
ROFLOL!! Jan ... that's HILARIOUS!!! I may just have to put that sign up!!!!
Hi Jan.
Hello "B"---HAPPY FRIDAY!!! No camping this weekend, severe thunderboomers (...100% chance...whaddya think...?!) and flood warnings for today and tomorrow---oh well, I still haven't gotten my summer clothes all unpacked from storage :) At least I don't have to worry about my plants being thirsty...they just might float away tho, LOL!!!
Jan
Oh Jan, not AGAIN! Enough with the rain for you.. we had some hard showers today, a little wind, 2 or 3 brugs went down, but they weren't the big ones, and all branches, buds and blooms are intact. Yes, I'm SO glad for the weekend.. (brug "work" planned). Hope you don't have to anchor them down.
Actually it was not a 'bad' rain---my tropicals loved it which, by the way are growing by leaps and bounds :) Now I have mentioned I'm ALWAYS on bloom bud alert, and my very first brug that I had last year that gave me my first brug blooms---well, I looked at it Friday evening and imagine my surprise that I had (have) a huge ole flower opening on it and had never noticed it budding! What a very pleasant, unexpected surprise! It opens a light yellow and then turns to cream---WHOO HOOO!!! My first, but not last, brug bloom. Unfortunately, due to puter problems, I am unable to post a pic :(
Saturday it was kinda yucky outside so I did get my summer clothes unpacked, and put away. Also packed up two huge bags of clothing for donation (DH was 'happy' about that... :) and I'm still not done. I keep/kept thinking that I would wear a lot of these items and have hung onto some for up to five years(!!!) w/o wearing them and I finally decided to pass them on---YEAH!...it made me feel good to finally do that :)
Sunday I was outside working in my gardens for over six hours but I am very pleased that everything looks so good so far.
OOPS---gotta go (work-related)---BBL :) Jan
Phew! Jan I thought you might be packing the brugs up and moving to higher ground. CONGRATS on your bud/blooms! That's what I do, I watch and look and watch and when I'm off doing something else there they are! .. Good thing they aren't all we have to wait for blooms from. yellow to cream? Lovely! How can we see how pretty they are if you can't post pics? We neeeed pics.. (sorry Jan, we all love pics so much) I'm sure you'd love to show us!
I'd love to post pics---is there anyone who I could send pics to that could scan them and then post them for me? Our puter at home is a piece of crap...but can't afford a new/different one :( Our 'stimulus' check has to go towards vehicles: both DH and I need to have brake jobs done and I need new tires --- pooh!
Let me see if I can figure out a way to get my pics posted---then you'll be yelling "STOP!!!!"...LOL!
No, I don't have a scanner, but I won't yell stop if you find someone who does. I know what you mean about the 'stimulus' thing.. Drew gets new glasses, I get to buy dirt and boards to fix my leaky foundation... :) (waaaaa not even dirt for planting!) lol My car trouble came before the stimulus checks, so with gas sucking from my food allowance, I had to charge car repair, that is NOT right, I'm fortunate I COULD charge it, but that is not something I normally charge.. next time, I might have to tell my boss I can barely afford gas to get to work, so if I don't have to drive in for a week or two, I could afford to get my car fixed. I've worked from home during ice storms...It's a Catch22, no matter which direction I go.
Wow---that's pretty cool that you can work from home. With my job as a Receptionist/Switchboard Operator it wouldn't be a possibility to work from home...but, in 9 short years when we retire I can/will 'work' from home when we move by you "B" and I have my Greenhouse :)
Jan
That IS my plan, Jan. Home and a greenhouse! A couple months ago, I told my boss soon I wouldn't be able to afford a car and the gas to get to work, that maybe I could start working from home, full time... He didn't like that idea.... until...... the lease runs out on the office in May 2010.. at that time he wants us to start working from home.... (great idea when it benefited His Majesty) But that IS 2010, it's Summer 2008, what am I supposed to do between now and then? He spends more on one meal for 2 people thann I spend on a whole weeks allowance for groceries for my family of 3! Nothings getting cheaper and the raises are smaller and a lot further apart. Oh well, guess I'll buy another lottery ticket and keep plodding forward. :) -B
JanLynn,
I have a scanner, and hubby can scan things while I am at work. If you would like just d-mail me and I will give you my addy.
Marie
