DAVE WHITINGER IN THE GARDEN GATE MAGAZINE

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Check out your latest issue for our very own Dave!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

My copy just came this morning, so after reading this I had to go look for the article. :)

Great job Dave!

Thanks! I haven't seen it yet but I'm looking forward to reading it whenever it arrives. :)

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

WOOHOO! Congratulations, Dave!

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Yes, Dave congratulations, And I fully agree with your notes. I have to depend on catalog orders, since I live so far out in the sticks and no good nurseries with in 100 miles.

Nice article Dave. I have had some great packing, including from one of the top five GW mentioned. However, what happens when it leaves the the nursery's hands is a different issue. I have received boxes, plastered with arrows and 'This end up' stickers that were not only ignored in transit, but once or twice even left upside down at my doorstep! Of course I complained, and had the nursery complain as well.

One favorite source uses cardboard cutouts and rubber bands to keep the soil in the pots. However, I never had cardboard protecting the entire plant as in the photo. That is really superior!

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Nice article! I thought "Wow, I KNOW that person" LOL

Just got my issue in the mail today. As I was leafing through the pages, looking at the photos and quick stuff, I suddenly did a double take thinking, "Gee, that guy sure looks a lot like Dave." And it was. I haven't had a chance to read the article yet but look forward to doing so.

Congratulations, DG!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

I'm am so miffed, I couldn't get a copy...all these miles of concrete and wonder stores and not a copy to be found anywhere. I'm going to see if I can at least borrow a copy from one of my MG mates. What a crock!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Just got the AARP mag today with Garden Watchdog mentioned. Now why hasn't my Garden Gate come yet?

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

I have to ask, for gardeners, do ya'll like this magazine the best?

Dave, do you subscribe to it? I'm only an hour from you so close in zone, that's why I ask.

I would love a gardener magazine that comes highly recommended but is relevant to my zone 9.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I don't recall them having too much zone/region specific info. Some of the magazines I subscribe to have sections in each issue for something specific to different regions of the country, but I don't think Garden Gate does that, it's more general info so some things will be relevant to you but some won't. For me that doesn't matter, I have one magazine that is for my region but the rest are all general interest (with an occasional page with regional info) but I still learn a lot and get a lot of ideas from them.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I have subscribed to Garden Gate mag, for several years, and always find good info.

For a while I subscribed to just about every major garden magazine. Garden Gate quickly emerged as one of my all time favorites. They sell a 'library' with all of the prior years bound into annual volumes. I liked the magazine so much that I ordered the whole library of prior years. It was wonderful. I almost didn't come up for air for weeks after receiving those books.

Very first article in the magazine. I got a little jolt of joy seeing your name there in the header Dave. You're the best.

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Tir_Na_Nog, I went to the website (above) and there is a section that allows you to sift thru some of the issues. Looks really good to me. And they allow you to have one free magazine to try it out. Sort of win, win. I can't wait til my copy gets here. Good luck.

Oh thank you everyone for the reviews. Thank-you drapelady, can always count on gardeners!

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

I just got my Garden Gate yesterday. I sat down to thumb through it today and read, "The BEST (and Worst) Mail-Order Nurseries" on the cover. My first thought was, "I'd like to read that, but it'll never beat the Garden Watchdog." I flipped to the article and imagine my surprise when I saw a pic of Dave!

It's a great article, congrats. I wonder how much more active the Watchdog will be now?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I no longer subscribe to any magazines, but when I did, Garden Gate was one of the best! Congratulations to Dave and i do miss that magazine.

Maybe someone who has their magazine can scan and share with us here on
Dave's?

Donna in Douglas, GA(Zone 8b)

Congratulations, Dave!
I even got goose bumps when I saw it! I've very proud of you and being apart of the Dave's Garden family of gardener's!
Happy New Year!

Monroe City, MO(Zone 6a)

Love my Garden Gate Magazine and I love Dave's Garden website.......what a perfect pair!

(I always wondered what the face behind the name looked like!)
I agree with Donna....very proud of you...our own Dave in Garden Gate...(sigh)!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I got my issue a couple of days ago, but just started reading it this morning. I saw "Dave Whitinger" and it didn't hit me at first. My first thought was "oh, a famous gardener I've probably seen on tv or who may have written a book I've read." Then, "duh", it hit me (light bulb went off and coffee started jolting me awake.... "That's OUR Dave"!!!!)

Very well done Dave - and glad you interviewed for such an outstanding magazine. My mother bought me a subscription to it for my birthday and it is by far my favorite thus far. No ads, all gardening... beautiful pics and helpful advice. I will have to renew it when the time comes.

Well Dave, GOOD JOB! The Garden Watch Dog is such a useful tool. I too have been caught up in pretty pics which means nothing about the company I am ordering from.

Wishing you Dave, and evreyone else a wonderful and prosperous 2008! And God bless Daves Garden and all the beautiful flowers that bloom within.

Just picked up my Garden Gate for the first time since it arrived. Christmas dust is just now settling and company are gone. Thumbed through it and saw Dave's name and came to a screeching halt! That is 'the' Dave!!! So after reading it I came looking for the mention on the DG forum. Glad I didn't miss it. But I don't throw them away, and would have found it eventually. Winter is when I catch up on my reading of gardening articles. Good to see you are still promoting DG Dave in lots of avenues.

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I just got around to looking at the cover of the magazine and saw The Best and Worse Mail-Order Nurseries. The first thought that came to mind was that someone there had found Gardenwatchdog and copied it. LOL
When I looked at the page mentioned I saw it was Dave and then was relieved that someone gave credit where it was due.
Garden Gate is one of my favorites because it has short articles that I read when I have the time. I also gave a subscription to my neighbor for Christmas one year.
I think Lowe's carries them, but I am not certain.
