on Page 68 of the January/February 2008 issue. The issue has a page on gardening with a look at some the of catalogs available, and suggests the Garden Watchdog as a way to avoid disappointment when ordering by mail. Has anyone else seen this item? Dotti
Dave's Garden mentioned in AARP, The Magazine
Not me Dotti! I HATE AARP as I received some weird membership card in the mail the day I turned 50! American Association of Retired Persons??? I'm only 50...I can't retire!!! Glad you're enjoying their publications, but right now I'm refusing to look at them.
Dotti, I saw the article too! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/796697/
KatG, I thought the same thing when I received their info in the mail. Resisted at first - geez..."I'm only 50"!!! I joined because of a few benefits - hotel and car rental discounts, etc. and saved enough on an annual basis to justify the membership fee. When I first received the magazine I used to throw it in the trash, but have to admit now that I'm actually reading it I enjoy some of the articles! LOL
Here in Australia, everyone 50 and over is entitled to a "Seniors Card". You pay a small annual fee and there are lots of businesses giving discounts; also Government and NGO organizations with perks and assistance. Not sure I want to be regarded as a "senior" in One year and 15 days time though, LOL! Jacq.
LOL Jacq - don't think of it as a "senior", we're just "maturing" :)
Would that be like cheese or like wine?
LOL, I'll choose the wine, the cheese might get a little "moldy" :)
I love the AARP magazine...they have some very good info that I pass on to my DD...who will be 50 someday!! I already have 2 children that are over 50...and I tell them it is hard enough being a "senior Citizen" with out having kids that are Seniors too!
I was a little hesitant to join AARP at first, but that was many years ago and now I am very pleased. I'm not retired yet (I hope to do so eventually) but it really is fun to walk into a place and ask for the senior discount - and get it. More than pays for the annual dues as rcn48 said. I understand what roadrunner is saying - my son will be 50 in a few years and my favorite nephew has already turned 50. I hope everyone has a great Christmas. Dotti
I know, I know! AARP is really a "good thing". However, if I get a card...some young kid at the movies etc., better not ask me if I have one! I'll use it at my discretion! hahahaha!
Get this. Last week my long time buddy and I go for Mexican food at a reknown place here in Dallas. She is 69 and I am 66 and we both look everyday of it. WE WERE CARDED. Happiest day of my life. woohoo.

I have never had to use my card. My hair turned gray early enough that I was given senior free-bee's before I turned 50. Think how I felt about that! HeHeHe Dotti
So funny that when I was around 35 (and grey) a very young girl behind the counter at Beal's asked if I wanted the "senior discount". I was so insulted I didn't shop there for years. Now I wonder why I even cared. Isn't maturity a wonderful time of life??
HAHAHAHAHA! Now those are funny stories!
I still better not be asked if I have a seniors card!!! LOL
