Good morning everyone! We can start a new thread with lots of visiting and pictures of our adventures in the growing world of gesneriads.
I will share Chirita 'Dream Time'. She is blooming again.
Photos and Chat #4
Beautiful Chirita, that is one I haven't heard of before.
While I watered and rearranged plants yesterday I took a few photos of some of my semi mini violets. I know I always complain about my camera, but I sure wish it would reall y capture the true colors!! :0)
Here is Rob's Humptey Doo chimera trailer

What precious little plants. You really can grow them, Brenda. I have decided i need some lessons on trailers. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a chimera trailer!
Hmm, I bought that chimera trailer from eBay last winter, I should go check it out on Rob's a make sure it really is a chimera.
Here's is an interesting pot of babies I have growing right now. the mother leaf is from Ma's Winter Moon. I specifically remember this fact as I broke the leaf off and it had no sttem, so it is the first one that I ever trimmed the leave away to make a little stem and then potted it. With these details in mind I know I have not made a mistake with identifying this leave. What is amazing is that the babies are coming up variegated?? Ma's Winter Moon is not a variegated plant, what's going on here??

Oh What Beauties! Gail: I have got to find that Chirita 'Dream Time' ... she is gorgeous! I've never heard that name before either!
And Brenda, Your Semi Mini's are Wonderful! Beautiful, Perfect Little Plants! I especially love that Chimera Trailer! Is that considered a mini or semi mini? Very Nice! I also love that one called Rob's Bed Bug ... looks very similar to the little semi miniature purple blooming Noid that Gail gave me!
I at one time had about a dozen little ones ... all noids and I can't tell the difference between semi mini or mini so I'm not sure what I have! I still have a couple of little ones but they don't seem to do real well for me.
Oh My Eunice: Why would you be ashamed to show those pretty plants??!! That Strep is Gorgeous! And, I think I see a Chirita blooming to the right of it? Is that Aiko with the yellow flowers?
I am so jealous! The only thing I have blooming right now are things I bought in bloom! Except for a couple of Kalanchoes.
Hehe.. Rob's Fuzzy Navel. Where do they come up with those names!
yes Lin that is Aiko it just keeps blooming
i got some leaves down that has put on baby leaves
Cool! Never seen one before! Strep seed pod that is. Looks like a green bean only upside down!

Starfly: Did you grow that last one from the Gesneriad Society from seeds? Could it be a Kohleria or a Gloxinia perhaps? Whatever it is, it looks very nice! Maybe you will get some blooms soon and then you would know for certain which plant it is! The leaves do remind me of photo's I've seen of Kohleria's. Maybe some of the gal's who grow them will be able to verify that's what you've got there.
Here's a photo where you can see some of the leaves on a Kohleria:

Lin, yes i got the seeds from the Gesneriad Society ,
it was the free pack far joining.
i have 4 are 5 of them , theres a couple other type but they look really bad.
that one in picture is so pretty i don't have them, maybe thats what mine will be,
is there anything special i need to do to grow them
What fun to get on DG and see this many new pics and plants! Whatever are you apologizing for Starfly. You and mrs.bonnie are posting such neat plants. Eunice, your foliage looks like my Sinningia piresiana that i grew from seed. Will post a picture and let you decide. It also looks a little like this Gloxinia. The only thing I have done with mine is to keep perlite in the bottom of whatever they are growing in.
Brenda,
your Ma's Winter Moon does have variegated foliage. I will post a big one and one grown from the leaf and let you see.
Lin,
After Christmas my chiritas are so large I am going to take them apart and just start with a small crown...which means remind me to send you a leaf of Dream Time. She is my very favorite chirita so far....soft soft yellows with deeper pinks
**This first pic is a Gloxinia
So many wonderful pictures. I love that Plum Country.
Very nice plants, Ladies! I don't have much of anything blooming right now. A few things are just finishing blooming. Gotta feed my babies more so maybe they will grace me with many more pretty blooms before long.
This is Ma's Winter Moon on Rob's website!

I just lost my whole message because it took so long to upload the photo...bummer!
I was going to show you the front porch as i have been cramming plants in to get ready for the cold front. Sallyblooms can vouch for our winds today! At least gusting to 45 mph out here.
let's try again to upload a photo
Gail your porch still looks so lovely and not crouded at all! I love looking at the pics of your porch. Heck, all your pics! Gives me incentive to get my new shelves that are just sitting there going! DO you have plants in you r house too? Other than the light shelves I mean. Every room in my house is full right now except for one, which is where I'm putting the new shelves..LOL
Now, isn't that weird? It has the same bloom it looks like....Let me look on First Class and see what it has for a picture and description.
Ma's Winter Moon (9394) 10/15/2004 (O. Robinson) Double medium blue star/wide white edge, variable gray-green tips. Variegated light-medium green and white, heart-shaped. Standard
Starfly I have two of those exact same plants from my mixed gessie seeds! All I know so far is that it is definitely a sinningia as they are growing from tubers. If you dig down a little or part the dirt some you'll see a tuber on yours I'm sure.
Here is a picture of one of mine (that I think looks just like yours) it is the larger plant on the left. The one on the right is also a sinningia judging by yet another tuber that it is growing from. I would love to have names for either of them!!
I ended up with more sinningias than anything else in my mixed gessie seeds, a nice variety of leave colors and sizes with them. Can't wait to see them bloom.

Gail: Your porch looks Perfect to me! I would be so embarassed for anybody to see my Florida room and my deck and pool area! Plants, leaves, soil, empty pots - stuff everywhere! I even stepped on a pretty begonia and crushed some leaves today ... you can't even walk out there it's so cluttered and dirty - a real mess! But, I will have to get it together tomorrow - that cold weather is heading our way so I will be cleaning, re-arranging and moving plants tomorrow! I finally got hubby to hang two heavy iron plant brackets in the guest room for me this evening with a heavy wooden rod across to hang some plants. We are supposed to have 39 degrees tomorrow night and 38 on Monday night! I am stunned ... had no idea it was going to get THAT cold. Our t.v. stations are out of Orlando and they have been predicting 41 for tomorrow night in Orlando. Hubby checked accuweather.com and it shows 39 for us tomorrow night. I don't mind mid 40's but I hate it to get lower than that. Thankfully it only stays real cold for a couple of hours and as soon as the sun rises it warms back up! I just hate having to move some more tender plants inside (NO ROOM!) and having to cover everything else with blankets! I am going to get everything watered real well tomorrow afternoon before moving and covering them!
Hubby gave his final exams last Wednesday so he is off until after the first of the year, so I am going to have him help me! Oh wait, tomorrow is Sunday so he wouldn't be teaching anyway! I am losing track of the days with him home!
I am loving the pic's of y'alls seedlings from those Gessie seed packets! I sure hope I can get a couple to maturity ... that would make me very happy! I'm sure going to try!
Eunice, that one on the right in your last picture kinda sorta looks like an Alsobia to me but I am not sure ... could be a Chirita Tamiana maybe? The more I look at it, I think it might be Chirita. Isn't it fun waiting to see exactly what you get from a packet of mixed seeds?
