oh, just saw your post - I'll give it to my sister-in-law, she's always liked it. Although I do look forward to growing some citrus when I get down there, I have noticed the "no shipping to CA" on citrus plants in the gardening catalogs.
May be moving to San Jose area from Tualatin, OR advice !!!
I think it's because citrus is such a big industry here, and they can't take chances on someone bringing in citrus pests from out of state so they won't let anyone bring them in.
Did I say peony? I TOTALLY meant camellia! Sheesh----geezerhood.....
As for citrus, you can get a great selection when you get settled. There are lots of places here that have nice ones, and the house you end up in may even already have some in the landscape. I have several potted up in the courtyard that I dearly love, including a limequat, Meyer lemon and a Bearss lime.
mmmm love lime, what is a limequat like?
lol @ geezerhood, happens to the best of us- love camelias, mine is just starting to bloom here.
Limequat is a cross between lime and kumquat.

Has little kumquat-sized fruits that have (at least on mine) a ton of seeds. Juice is very tart, and my favorite for a hot-summer-evening beverage in my "happy place".

I eat them right off the tree---they have sweet peels like kumquat. The fruit on mine is narrower than the picture from Plantfiles. Mine has yellow, ripe fruit most of the year that holds really well on the tree.
There are quite a few neighborhoods in San Jose that typically have citrus in the front yards. It's a few degrees warmer in the winter there than here; mine need some shelter from freezing temps we get in the winter. Closer to the coast, (like Santa Cruz) of course, there is the ocean air that keeps temps warmer. We're considered an "inland valley", but we also get ocean fog in the summer spilling over the Santa Cruz mountains in the PMs to cool things off---when we get the "right" weather pattern (the one I like...LOL!) When we don't, it's just hot as blazes----over 100 many days from May to Oct. Since you're used to cooler temps, that may factor into where you look for your house!
I have oranges year round on my tree, only a real bad and rare frost ruins them.
Yeah ! Looking forward to having some citrus, the limequat sounds delicious, and I bet my kids would love them, too. (They eat lemon & lime slices, like tart things)
Oh - I know I'll regret saying this, but the warm sounds good. We've had weeks and weeks of "pouring rain" seriously, when you look at the forecast it says "pouring rain" blech! I'm so over it !!!
Well, it's been "pouring rain" here for days, too, so we can't brag!~
