Pelle,

Thanks for the link!

DH put his foot down today and said I had enough feeders and couldn't buy anymore. :-(

He said the birds are going to eat us out of house and home. :-(

Bummer!

Maybe, I can sneak some bird stuff into the home/garage/yard every so often and he won't notice! It's addicting! lol

Sybil,

I've been in those Cub food stores when I use to live in the Greater Dayton, OH area, so I know what you're talking about, but I don't know about the suet logs stuffed with seeds. Could you say a little more about it? I've fed bird the chunks of white suet one finds at grocery stores, but only put it into the thin apple netting bags. I haven't done it in awhile, so maybe I get some raw suet this week at the store, then figure what to put it in. I've picked up the suet fat they sell in packages already wrapped up (where they sell cold meat items) if they're available. Very cheap!

Nice pics...I'm seeing beautiful birds I didn't know existed. Also finding out a lot about bird food and treats.

Marilyn..It is a suet cake and I purchased it at the local farm store. The have a very nice selection of seed, treats and feeders that are not available anywhere locally. I just discovered this yesterday!

thx marilyn! Yes dh is magnes. I have played with so many different things to feed the birds with here over the years, some things turned out kinda stupid, and others actually worked. :-) I have a real menagerie of contraptions now, lol! Whose obsessed??? not us, no way!!

Great shots everybody! You guys are getting good at this!!

I really would like to see the Bewick Wrens again... Kinda getting concerned abut their numbers.

Don't overlook those giant pointed hooks of steel at the end of her shapely legs! Nice to look at but please, don't land on me!!!!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

sybil, you asked:

Quoting:
Do your provide the worms or do they bring their own?

They enjoy going through the plants for other bugs and worms. As it turns cooler those are harder to come by, so I buy the mealies.
Precious sybil! I would like to see a pwp in real-time myself.

Quoting:
Here is a downy (or hairy?) way, way up in a tree at sunset yesterday

Hairy - note the all-white outer tail feathers. Downy has a couple of black spots on the white outer tail feathers.

Nice pics Gardenpom!

Is the Firespike your Hummingbirds favorite?

Melbourne, FL

Thanks Marilynbeth. I think that suet is called Peanut Crunch. Thanks Pelletory....actually the hummers seem to prefer my Firebush, but the Firespike has more blooms right now.

Morrison, IL

My favorite (the flicker) visited my feeder today along with many more. I spent most of my day taking pictures and bird watching. Unfortunatly I had to shoot thru the window so it is not too clear.

Welcome derge, Nice pic of the Flicker!

We don't see them around too much as feeder birds so thanks for posting!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

GP!! Sweet hummer pic!

Hi derge nice flicker there! I too have been working through a window quite a bit. Today mostly battling the fog on the inside.. Windex with amonia d is not what it's cracked up to be.. magnes gave me some rainx anti-fog, and it seems to work better.

The fog was around the edges here, Dark-eyed Junco

Cardinals were out there as usual..

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks pelle! Cardinaly were back and forth between the good ole gnarly rose bush and the feeder..

I think one of my carolina wrens is hopping on one leg. It's the lighter breasted one. I noticed it did walk really funny, and it dances around in circles, wrens normally do that but not this much. I am pretty sure I only see one leg though.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

The RbN have been coming around to the suet feeders several times a day now, having discovered them just three days ago. Here's a shot coming in to the suet.

I've had a Droll Yankee peanut silo up for several weeks, and saw birds on it for the first time yesterday. They seemed frustrated and quickly gave up. Like the screening is too small and the nuts won't come through. Is it necessary to break up the nuts before filling the feeder??

Thumbnail by tigerlily
Marlton, NJ

tiger, are they peanut halves?

Marlton, NJ

There (the peanut halves) actually supposed to be broken apart by them pecking on it. I usually see woodpeckers, chickadees etc. go to that feeder.

Maybe mix in some BOSS w/ the peanut halves.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I think this is a Song Sparrow. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Pelle, perhaps not, I think most of them are whole and still in the skin. Is that the problem?
