Blue Jay thinks it is a little chilly out.

Marilynbeth, how deep is your big tray? Do you have trouble keeping the seed in there? I saw one like that one sale somewhere....now where though????? lol

Marlton, NJ

I like the depth of yours nanny; the side wood panels look like their wide enough that the camera would focus better on it.

I have one but alot of times the camera doesn't want to focus on it because the side panels are so small (not wide enough).

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I love mine because of the depth keeps seed in more steady perch for the birds, though the jays have to practice at first to control the amount of swing! Not sure I would like something that shallow. I want something to accomodate the bigger birds.

Very nice pics nanny!

The little Sharpie is back for another photo op.

Nanny,

Is this the feeder you're referring to?

http://www.duncraft.com/Greatwoods-Hanging-Tray-XL-Save-1500-P2254C216.aspx

It's 18 x 13 x 1-3/4 inches. I like yours alot better.

Hebron, KY

Nanny,

Is this the feeder you're referring to? This is what I have, besides two smaller rectangular tray feeders.

http://www.duncraft.com/Greatwoods-Hanging-Tray-XL-Save-1500-P2254C216.aspx

It's 18 x 13 x 1-3/4 inches. I think it hangs too long and is too long. I'm not too happy with it,

I really like yours alot better!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Yeah, that's it! I thought it looked ike it might be more 'unbalanced' if you know what I mean and just not deep enough.....

Man pell, your sharpie is more persistent than mine. But I love your photo!

Sorry didn't mean to sidetrack to feeders....... my bad!!

I do a walking program for excercise and while I was out a while ago I saw & heard some Eastern Bluebirds. No pics though. I think some stay here all year and some migrate.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

meant to add this, oops!

Hungry Hawk! Great pics.

nanny - I like seeing the greenery too. :)

Bird ID please. I have this on the Let it Snow thread also. Sorry about the terrible image. This bird I have not seen before. It has a long, sharp-pointed beak.

I have scrolled through the common MN bird lists and did not find it.

Brown Creeper. Very unusual to get one of these on a feeder!

If one peanut is good...two are better.

This guy tried to pick up three peanuts, but had to settle for two.

By the time the Steller's discovered there were peanuts the Scrub Jays had grabbed them all.

Nice Blue Jay shots nanny! :-) You have a great view of that feeder and your really doing well with that new camera!

adelbertcat, the stellar jay is beautiful! Nice shots!

What a deal getting a brown creeper at the feeder...

I though that was odd too Resin, maybe it was looking for small buggies.

Adelbertcat,

Great shots!

That stellar jay is very cool!

Brainerd, MN

I think we have had so much snow so quickly and steadily since Saturday that the Creeper couldn't find any other food source.

Klamath River, CA

Tigerlily.....haven't heard from you for awhile, hope every thing is OK ? We caught the lower part of that last storm , but no where near as bad as it hit Oregon and Washington.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah sybil, Even the wrens have an occasional seed or two.

:-)

Brainerd, MN

I read that they do eat nuts and seeds as well as insects.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks for asking adel.
It wasn't bad here in the foothills, but I'm from Newport, and of course the coast really got hit hard. One gust was recorded at 129mph! Yikes! Columbus Day 1962 all over again.

A Brown Creeper at a feeder is just unheard of! What a surprise!

Some wonderful photos folks. I LOVE this forum!

Nice photos everyone ...........

Here are three photos of backyard birds that got the peanuts before the squirrels.

First is a Grackle ........

One my morning birdwalk I saw just one small bird. (LOTS of jays about) It was very patient with my presence, and I took 225 shots at it as it moved though the trees. I haven't gone through them all yet, but here are some of the nicer ones.
